If indeed this is true i was led to believe that a lot of the Borris players were getting their expenses paid and im presuming he was one of them whats gone wrong to say he is leaving. Again if this is true im being cautious not to take the bait as i have been accused of in the past!! Dont want to upset anyone out there nice to see people looking out for one another though!

saints will now have the best attack with pa quinn and rafter to go with their obvious best defence in the league. might not be good for the league as a whole but i cant see anyone getting near them this year, they could even win every single game they play in tipp

I actually think Saints will finally win the league this year but i think it will be very tight,Town seem to be back on track and for me its still a case of Saints having a better defence and Town having superior attackers,i think Martin Tynan,Barry Ryan,David Mcgrath and Jimmy Hynes provides a greater attacking threat than any other side but Saints are just so solid and have such a compact system i think this year they will see it through, only just though

with respect to the town players named, i know tynan has won an fai and young mcgrath is back from loi football but i dont think that saints would swap either rafter or quinn for any of those players. think it could be final piece of the jigsaw for saints

Wombat - who did tynan win fai with ?
Stelling I can't comment on either tynan/ Hynes as I haven't seen them play but on reports they seem to be decent players as for young McGrath he is quality but why didn't you mention Tony Scully ( no disrespect to Barry ryan ) but everything town do in an attacking sense goes through Tony who is top quality ?
As for saints everyone goes on about our defense and rightly so but
sometimes to the detriment of our attackers ( Quinn ryan baggery, Connery Egan and copper ) which i think is as good as anything around and there is jimmy carr !
Anyway it is way too early to say who will win league but it will be tight
tynan won fai with waterford crystal 5 or 6 years ago and played abit of league of ireland aswell. him and hynes will get plenty of goals this season. tony scully, david mcgrath and barry ryan add plenty of firepower to that attack also. any word on anymore tsdl transfers before deadline end of september.is rafter to saints done and dusted??

Yea, met the Borris manager today and he confirmed Rafter is gone, tranfer forms were signed tues night.
borris maybe should have rested him against saints scoring that hat trick in 8-3 has resulted in him leaving :)
saints squad looking much stronger now with rafter confirmed. foggy and shane guerin were big losses from last seasons mjc winning squad but in rafter and tony egan they have 2 able replacements for this seasons assault on silverware

some interesting ties in the munster junior this weekend. saints away to peake villa is an interesting 1 michaels have rarely gotten a result up there down the years in lge games and peake are definetely a bogey team for them remember them beating saints in fai in cooke park also a few years back. could be very interesting game.
the wombat
30/09/2011, 11:44 AM
yes it could be interesting but remember they were very different peake teams to what they have now so i would have to fancy saints.
on the oscars i think the time has come to drop james walsh. he has been brilliant but i saw him vs borris recently and his legs are just gone. i think that chris higgins should be beside paul at saints and for the oscars. even alan leahy of peake deserves a shot. again this is not a go at james its just time moves on and i think he has also had a huge influence on who gets picked for these squads which isnt fair either.

Wombat in relation to James Walsh in borris game I suppose any of us would be leggy if we had just arrived back into dublin from 2 weeks honeymoon only 3/4hrs earlier he did saints a huge favour by togging out ad saints were short at the back that day , but your Right saints conceded 3 very unusual not just down to chalkie . Anyway for my money ( I know I'm biased ) still the best centre half in country only my opionion not a club statement or anything
im on this forum 8 years and the annual chalkie bashing gets boring. class act down through the years and still a top player.

whats boring is the fact that you cant give an opinion on here of a saints player without being accused of player bashing or whatever. saints supporters have to accept that not everybody thinks their players are so great and god forbid we disagree with them
and in relation to james in the borris game i hadnt realised his situation and your correct rightboy anybody would have to be excused heavy legs in that case. i also think that jimmy hynes and seanie o hara have done more to deserve a place on the oscars than rafter so far, again this is just my opinion

wombat it has been proven year after year that the interest is not there in the oscar panel no one wants to play at least chalkie encourages the saints players to play as i know most of them cudnt be bothered with it otherwise. how can you say hynes and o hara deserve to be on the panel before rafter??? thats a crazy statement rafter was playin professional football last year and im not sayin the lads mentioned are bad players.

The chalkie debate?is the tsdl not a good way to blood players?young?chalkie has too much influence in that squad and the tsdl in general.as a player, any club would dream to have him on and off the pitch.as for his legs, ya its natural for him to get slower we all do,but what he has upstairs makes up for many yards down.i know a few whipets who cant pass a ball.so we will end that debate for now.but what does interest me is a saints fan says he done them a favour after his honeymoon.could they not use some one from the youths bteam bench.does this show saints weakness in depth?just curious.

once heard(many moons ago), one of our(fairview) older players getting slagged about not being able to get from A to B as quick as what he used to be able to.
his answer was "who says i have to start at A???"
think that is what's called experience

I used wrong words in saying he done saints a favour
On the day saints were short 5/6 players and also had b team as well so obviously numbers were tight
As fir strength in depth I think saints are fine it's well known saints haven't been able to pick from a full deck so far this season for numerous reason ( holidays work etc) but I think from here on that should settle down now which will have a knock on effect for our b team who have struggled so far
As for the youths we are struggling( Celtic have no team) like all clubs because of rule change our youths very young. , too young for 1st team

hey republican just because he played professional football does not give him the right to start, hynes has scored in every game for Town this year and has great attitude, i hear rafter has a few pounds to lose yet before he can make an impact, this thing about chawkie been the best centre half in the country is nonsense, he is a great player alright but breen is better at the current time, chawkie had his day
republican
01/10/2011, 10:28 PM
bilko i never said hynes wasnt a good player but if u wer the manager of the tsdl you would be startin rafter aswel. hynes has scored in most his games granted, but rafter scored 3 against saints in his last game for borris but breen wasnt playing but still thats a good hat trick you must admit 2 of the goals were top drawer.

01/10/2011, 11:14 PM
from what i hear jimmy hynes is doing most of his scoring from midfield which is even more impressive and to be totally honest i dont know rafter but i doubt very much jamie or any of the clonmel lads would swap hynes for any other player(striker) in south tipp. hynes is top class lads and i bet ye will all agree with me before the year is over. playing with a smaller league/club all his life has probably stopped him going on to better things.

Lads chalky has all his caps for a reason, whether the tsdl or anyone else has something to do with it,it doesn't matter, but there's a lot of people calling for someone else to get a chance, whether they
be from limerick,Waterford, clare, cork or Kerry n Tipperary,I see him playing few times and he's legs are gone IMO ,now I know the tipp town boys are going to tell me he go MOM in the last tournament he played,n I'm not doubting that, but lads in all fairness he's finished,
