The U.18s are up in Boyle on Friday evening, the U.14s are at home to Killala and the Galacticos are at home to Corrib Rangers. All in a weekends action in Connacht Cup football. If the U.14s win, they go into the semi final.

The U.14s and the Galacticos advance in the Connacht Cup but the U.18s travelled to Boyle only to be sent straight home again. Pitch unplayable.

Best of luck to Westport in the Connacht Cup Q/F. Will be at the match hopefully to see how they get on. First time ill get to see them since they lost to Ballina in the league, which they didnt deserve to lose in my opinion.

The U.16s advance into the semi final of the Connacht Cup after a 5-0 win over Strand Celtic from Sligo this evening. They are home to Mervue or St. John's in the semi final.

Hope the 16s go all the way there, they deserve it after a terrific season.
Just a shame there's no Westport team competing in the Under 17 league...

The U.16 Connacht Cup semi final is on this Saturday in the Sports Park against Knocknacarra. The Galway outfit beat Mervue United 3-2 with ten men last night in an exciting encounter, the game turned on its head when the Mervue keeper had to go off injured when it was 1-0 to the eventual losers. Only one goal came from play; the others came from two free kicks and two penalties, one for either side. Winners travel to Athlone to take on the winners of Corofin United or Ballisodare United in the final. It's really all to play for now for this generation of Covey Cubs.

The juniors in their opening two games of the league have come away with two draws but they were really unlucky in Belmullet on Saturday evening. Played some lovely intricate football and were denied by a sucker punch goal at the end. The positives from the opening two games were game time opportunities to Liam Staunton, Darren Browne and Johnny Smith. Liam got his first senior goal for the club on Saturday evening in Belmullet, Darren was unlucky with a header against Ballina Town while Johnny Smith had a very good game on Saturday evening. Looking to the future we are going to see a lot of the better underage footballers being graduated up onto the first team, so the next couple of seasons will be pretty transitional. We may not win trophies for a couple of years but we look at rebuilding the first team and hopefully the new boys in time will deliver success, so I think that every Westport United supporter needs to be patient over the next couple of years and I think we will reap the rewards for our investment into our schoolboys and youths.

I have reason to believe that Kieran Mulchrone is the new Westport United manager. I was listening to it on the radio this evening.

Kieran Mulchrone served as an assistant to Barry Kilgannon. Before that, he managed the B team and was assistant manager to John Moran of the B team.

The U.16s are in the Connacht Cup final after beating Knocknacarra 3-1. They will be taking on Corofin in Willow Park FC's ground in Athlone next Saturday at 1:00. Tremendous crowd at the game today as the team did enough to secure a place in the final. The second half was one full of free kicks, yellow cards and a red. If the boys win next Saturday, they will only be the second underage side in the club to win the Mayo Double and Connacht Cup; the last Westport United side to achieve that feat was the U.15s in the 1988-89 season. The team only lost two games out of 23 in the whole season and this particular group of footballers only lost once at home since November 2007.

Pleased to say that one of those losses was in Celtic Park in a cracking league game that finished 3-1 :)
Good win for the younguns and I'd be surprised if they don't lift the Conn Cup now. Great bunch of lads and many congrats to them and their management team :)

Great win for the U.16s. Held out brilliantly with ten men and the keeper saved two penos. Great treble for the side. It was the icing on the cake for them. The future is certainly in safe hands.

They did very well and the whole town is very proud of the boys. The goalkeeper was named as joint footballer of the week on the Connaught Telegraph, while the management team got managers of the week. Westport defended brilliantly after going down to 10 men and at the same time could easily have been 3-1 up at half time. Some super penalties were taken too.

Good game, fair result I reckon. Harsh red card. Westport could easily have had one too. One unbelievable goal, one decent goal and one lucky goal. Entertaining game overall.

I felt that Westport had the better of the first half, Celtic had the better of the second. Boyler's goal was a peach, Cam's equaliser was well taken but the winner was a bit poxy with the deflection. Celtic did things that bit quicker and sharper than Westport. Celtic were favourites for the game anyways and it is really their league to lose at this stage.

I thought it was the exact opposite. Celtic dominated in the first half while Westport saw the better of the second. Result was fair. Good to see the derby back in action anyways and hopefully we can kick on from here!

I agree, Utd controlled the first 10 min then it was all Celtic till they scored and then Utd took over till half time. Second half saw Celtic dominate and looked very dangerous on the break after we scored. Jamie had a great chance to kill the game of but hit the post. Once Alan was sent off for an offence only the Ref saw it was all Westport and they missed a couple of good half chances to level. With my green and white glasses on we just about shaded it but could not argue to strong if the game finished level. Roll June 5 for part two. Surprised not to see Niall Gallagher in goals but Utd young keeper has a bright future as do the other young lads used. Maybe we can coax him back

Well deserved win for Utd. They wanted it more. Very little football played on a small pitch. Hoban the class act and the difference between the teams. Lawless also was back to his best. Surprised Hoban did not start. Rather the three points than the final.

Westport fully deserve to be in the final. Horkan and Lawless were super, definetly the strongest backline in the county now, but what are Westport going to do with Geraghty?? They can hardly leave him on the bench. James O'Donnell is a class-act, created something nearly everytime he got the ball. The goalkeeper Cunningham was also very good, reliable and make a top class save near the end, could not say that about the Byrne for Celtic though as he just looked nervous when the ball came near him. Owens at right back was Celtics best player , he should be played on the wing in my opinion. Ioseph O Reilly was the only one who looked like scoring.

Big game tomorrow between the the two most famous sides in Mayo football. The 'Port needs to win to put pressure on Celtic, while the away victory will leave Celtic with only one more win to regain the Super League title. Should be an intruiging afternoon of football.

This will be followed by the Westport United Centenary Book Launch in the Castlecourt Hotel at 8:00.
