Westport United's AGM is called for Saturday the 9th of February at 4:00 in the Dome Suite in the Castlecourt Hotel. Definitely a very unusual time to have it by WUFC standards, but apparently, they could not get a room to hold it on the Friday night, as they want to maximise attendance with players away in college or work. Some people in Westport thinks it's a great idea, others thinks that it is absolutely barmy. My worries would be as follows: People working, parents involved with the indoor football on a Saturday afternoon, a possible Westport United underage fixture on that date and other various knick-knack excuses like baby-sitting if the husband/wife were working. However, attendances at the Westport United AGM's were nothing to write home about over the years, and it largely varied between mediocre and crap. People are hardly forming large queues to get in, unfortunately, but this AGM may surprise a lot of people with the attendance, and for this writer, I certainly hope it is for the better.

True it is an odd time but I suppose no time is a good time. :)

I know that Westport United AGMs are not traditionally busy affairs, however the supporters and parents of the players have two months notice to get off their respective backsides and attend the meeting.

It is once a year that it is held, and if they want to bring the club forward, the supporters and parents (in some cases) need to stop moaning on the sidelines, the background, barstools and their living room reclining chairs, and get actively involved, thus turning their thoughts and opinions into tangible actions, results will be seen.

The talk is, dont want us, they wont listen to us, they wont if you dont put your hat into the ring. Many hands make light work.

Westport people (in some cases) are traditionally defeatist, negative, and believe hearsay and rumour of to how things are perceived, than what they actually are, they concede defeat before they start, they use it as an excuse for their laziness.

Look what has happened in recent times, if anyone has read the papers, the club has got planning permission for a new ground, many people said it wouldnt happen. It has. Fair play to them! If more get involved, it would be staggering what could be acheived.

The Club has to be more than the one big creche that it is being treated as by the parents.

If any supporters or parents are reading, please take heed.;)

Having done my share of development of grounds, it would be normal to suggest that it would be different committee, rather than the main one which is of fen called a key committee. Which would have full support of the club. they the key committee would bring there recommendations to the main committee, for the final agreement.
Iwould consider this the norm.
Fair play to K.C. and his committee.

Its a pity the site is not up dated on a weekly basis. Its a great site but when its not up dated it defeats the purpose. Come on Utd, give us up dated news on all teams every week. May be one of you will take this task on.

Goals from Cam (3, 1 pen.) and Spiderman were enough for Westport United to cruise past Ballyheane in a thumping 4-0 win in the Connacht Cup. It was Westport United's first win in the competition since beating Gurteen United 2-1 on March 20th 2005. Heard that Ballyheane employed Thunder Football tactics, which apparently resulted in the Louisburgh Lion being stretchered off, and he is a strong bloke. Any more feedback on the game?

I'm sure that any kid that logs onto the website would like to see their name mentioned. I would agree that it is not good enough the lack of reports on all teams within the club and it gives an impression that there is a lack of a coherent structure. Hopefully, this may be addressed at the Saturday afternoon AGM on the 9th. I don't know what the Leveller or Quay Heart might add onto this.

Utd have more than enough to cover at centre back, Joe, Peter, Lovejoy, Horkan, McL & centre midfield, Danny, Kennendy, Horkan, Mcl, Hoban and up front O'Malley (x2), Hoban, Cameron, Horkan. It still would be better if he was still with Utd. Is he gone for good or will he be back in the summer.

Mossy have to agree with you.
Cream always rises to the top, it wasn't long ago when Westport was in a mess had there B TEAM thrown out of the league for fielding unreg players.
they are still a team. Club has yet to be formed, may be when they move out to the country, where there no traffic lights might be different.
We will all have to wait and see.

Just took that quote from the Ballyheane thread onto the Westport United thread. On analysis, the reference dates back to 1997, but the B team were never thrown out of the league. The club at the time got fined and points deducted, didn't pay the fine, got suspended, which meant that Ballinasloe Town got a walkover from Westport United at the time in the Connacht Cup. A meeting was called between Westport United and the Mayo AFL, mediated by Deputy Michael Ring TD and the result was that the fine was reduced but the points deduction remained. The club declined to field a B team in view of the events of November 1997.

With the lack of facilities, it is probably like a game of twister trying to accomodate the teams at the moment. But, even with facilities, there needs to be the support of volunteers as well to underpin this.

What I saw of last years U-12's they are a good bit behind Celtic. But Celtic use the U-13 Mayo league & Cup for players who are not making it at U-14 level. I know they will put out their strongest squad for the SFAI Cup. So based on this they may well be in a with a shout. Dont know much about your U-16's how did they do last year.

Got wind of a rumour yesterday evening about registration fees. I received an SMS message that there was talk that the registration fees in the club in 2008 have gone up. Is this typical Westport gossip or is there substance to this? Wouldn't surprise me if it is local gossip as molehills has often turned into mountains in that rumour and gossip-orientated town.

Just as well, I do not live in Liverpool, if I'm relying on an up to date news service on match reports. I could bang my head off a wall in frustration at not being able to read a report on Sunday's 4-0 win over Ballyheane. Very frustrating this. I don't know how the exiles feel about this.

Hardly. They were clear league leaders from day one until a change in management coincided with their first defeats with two matches left. I'd be expecting them to do the job right this season.

Celtic beat them easily 2-0 in Celtic Park and drew 3-3 in Ballina. I take it then they are still involved in the SFAI & Connacht cups and one of th fav to win the latter. Clearly you havent see Celtic U-12 play. Yes Ballina were very unlucky not to be crowned Mayo Champions but a league is won over a season. Celtic also beat Town 3-0 in Ballina in the play-offs.

Great player & sound lad, had the potential in my mind to have gone across the water but what ever reason club youth set up at the time, Mayo set up he never got the opportunity. Still was good enought for LOI a couple of years back but saw him last season and seems to playing in a comfort zone. Mayo Junior football is a stroll for him and it is beginning to show in his current form. Still the best defender in Mayo by a mile when playing at 75%. If he wanted he would still make it at LOI.
