By the way only members of the club can vote at A.G.M.

In theory but never in practice at WUFC.

Westport are torpedoed with injuries for Sunday between Cam, Eoghan, Lovejoy and Alan Mac. Kenno is back and Burkey shall debut. Louisburgh Lion has a slight injury but should be ok!!

Congrats to the U.18s on trouncing East United 6-2 last weekend. Have Salthill Devon in the Connacht Cup Quarter Final. Hard luck to the U.14s after bowing out on penos. Wasn't at either game.

Lotto jackpot is now €15,300!!:D :D :D

Just to let ye know BOC is doing his Level 1 youth cert the last week in Feb.He had planned to do it last summer before he got the Westport Utd Job which would have been the off season for his previous club Corrib Rangers. He could not do it as the amount of games played in the summer of the Mayo League season so had to cancel the course.

Its now the off season with Westport so he will have it done soon as was waiting for a course to come up.

First of all, welcome aboard quay heart on the nation's NO.1 footie forum.:D

Yes, I heard that the AGM is set for the 30th January at 8:00 at the Castlecourt Hotel.

I would implore all the fans, fair weather and die hards to attend the AGM if they value their loyalty to the club.

It is an imperative that the parents attend the AGM as they are the voice representing the concerns of our underage footballers.

Underage football should not be cast aside in the dispersal of club finances as the vast majority of membership comes from that bracket, ie, the money should not be invested solely in the junior team. Underage football is at least as important if not more important than the junior team as they are the future of the club and if the underage is neglected, the whole structure will eventually fall down. I can relate back to 1999, and the talk within the club was that it would fold in five years. I was angry at that prospect and it made me really feel having to do something about it, and watching underage football, apart from one team, it was honestly an abyss. The last couple of years saw an improvement but there is honestly a long ways to go. Some of the coaches have done Kick Start 1 and a couple did Kick Start 2 and one of them is with the FAI Local Emerging Talent Programme. The club needs a strong, definitive schoolboy/youth structure in place before moving to the next level. In the last ten years, clubs in the province have caught up and overtaken Westport United in their underage structures.

With regard to the Junior Manager, there is a rule in the Mayo AFL Rule Book that Super League managers must have an FAI Youth Cert badge. I know his coaching qualifications have been questioned over the season.

Personally speaking, I want to see the parents at the AGM and I want to see everybody with the club and football at heart at the AGM and I would like to see the next committee to progress the club towards the centenary in a positive frame and to develop the kids and meet the goals to shape a great future for the club.

Well put thunder I couldnt have said it better my self

is it true that people have stopped paying for the junior manager ????

That seems to be the story around Westport. I'd rather invest money into the club if it was looking towards the bigger picture, underage development, facilities, competing at a higher level long term. Progression for me would be the long term aspiration of the club to get the structures in place so that entry into the Eircom League would be a viable long term goal. Accepting mediocrity is unacceptable in 2007. It is time that everyone in Westport United rise and meet the modern day to day challenges of football and bring the proud and historic club forward rather than be cocooned in a time warp of living on past glories, which stunted the direction of the club over the years. People prefer to relate to 1969, 1987 and 2005 rather than concentrating on our precious future, our kids and our grand-kids.

Sorry to hear that thunder! Quay Heart must be rearing to go on Friday @ YOUR a.g.m. and to be sure he will have a point to make.
Your club is gone a bit like Chelsea'S OF THIS WORLD!!!! but cant afford it.
Brendan O'Connor must come under some pressure now. plus the extra signings didn't make any differants, so I take it from next week no one will be piad at Westport once Quay Heart is elected.
His first duty is to sent the likes of O'CONNOR AND BURKEY packing.
By the way how is Burkey after his clash? got a bad knock in the head.:p

Shock of the Connacht Cup so far. The Manager will have to go. If this was Celtic (only the Mayo Cup won) everyone on this site would be calling for Dykes head. With this loss will it mean that the Manager will bring in new players from Galway or around Mayo. It will be interesting to see what the Westport Faithful have to say at the AGM. Bring back Cuscack would be my answer.

someone who plays 5 years or more LoI can go straight onto the Youth Cert without doing KS 1 or 2. BoC meets that criteria.

BTW what is the feeling on the ground after yesterdays shock. Will he get another season?

I haven't spoken to too many people but the feeling is that they were stunned that we failed to put away mediocre opposition. A couple of people (and I stress at only a couple) are looking for a change of management. Most say that good will come out of this. Some felt that the players approached the game too complacent. Main concensus is that with so many injured, ill, away and suspended, eight of the starting 11 of the FAI Junior Cup final of 2005 were not on the pitch, it was going to make a routine game that little bit more trying. As for the gaffer getting another term, that is a matter for the outgoing or incoming committee.

What is your prediction for the AGM? Are we going to see the status quo retained or is there going to be a purge? Who is safe and who needs to be looking over their shoulder? If the managerial job becomes vacant, who would you throw into the shortlist?

Friday night was supposed to be a "thank you" night for those who helped fundraise for the club and manage underage teams over the last year. Hate to see the final bill for it though.

Enough of this TB attacking - he's done more for the club than you or me or anyone who's been having a pop at him. Act like a man and say your bit at the right time - obvioulsy there's a lot of people in teh club who believe that paying the manager is the right way to go - as for the choice of manager - that's another issue. As for me - i'll support whoever it is because I'm proud of those who wear that crest. Stop whining and support the club.

Funny to see your first two choices were Castlebar Celtic players and might be back in the near future. What I have seen of Westport A team this year (four games) the young Hoban lad (NIUG) was great in all games and in different positions. He was a real loss to your team for the external cups. But the A team has so many great players I would hate to have to pick one.

Mervue are always the perennial favourites for the competition. They beat us 2-0 two years ago and their first goal was a well worked corner kick in which one of the guys standing near the back post sprinted across to take the ball short from the taker. The ball was laid back to the taker who then took the ball across the edge of the box before firing home. It was one of these well rehearsed set piece moves.

I'm not attacking you're feelings.
