Getting a bit of stick.
Seemed happy with his first goal.

UCD 0-0 Distillery. That's about it really.
Technically we were much better; physically they were much stronger. Fancy our chances up there, but we've no presence up front. That'll cost us this year.

Im just back from Belfast Sheao, and im not trying to blow our own trumpet but it was more of an annihilation than a good result.. should have scored 2 or 3 more and the 3 conceded were scrappy.. Obviously 2 came about from penalties, both of which were questionable at best.. We actually looked scarily good going forward. Kearns is unbelievable.. we'll do well to hold on to him after the summer..

All went smoothly Town Legend, bo trouble.. credit to the PSNI, did what they had to do well, escort included. Some of our fans had the stupidity about them to light up flares and sing some contemptuous songs but as was to be expected.. Great night all in all!

There's always them few that misbehave!! At least nothing serious happened for the papers to write about in the morning! When you consider the LOI clubs are only in pre season 2 good results tonight to start things off.

Thats the unfortunate but true part of it!.. ah well!
Linfield were very poor for a team in mid-season, defensively especially, we tore them apart going forward. On a side note, interesting how the BBC had a match report up asap, yet our own RTE havent found the time, even though they lead with a story on Chelski and Fulham!
Also Congrats UCD!

It was a cracking performance by Dundalk tonight, and confirmed what we had suspected....that this is a side loaded with attacking potential.
Danny Kearns is an international and premier league star in the making. It's hard to believe that he is still a teenager. He will set the LoI alight this season.
Colin Hawkins was a tower of strength despite his lack of fitness. Greg Bolger and Mark Quigley would not be anywhere near full fitness either, and Stephen Maher has yet to come back in after injury.
There is a lot more in this team but tonights performance and result was immense.
I thought Linfield were flattered by the scoreline and Dundalk will be even stronger, fitness wise, by the time the return leg comes around - it should be a special night with a sellout crowd in Oriel Park

Looked for a match report this morning after such a good result and not even a word on RTE.
Was there ever official confirmation of the dates for this competition?
I have 2nd round down for March 7th and 21st
SF down for 4th and 18th April
Final for 14th may
But I'm not really sure where I got them from. Anyone able to find me a link?

No Setanta Cup reports, but it's probably because they're chasing more important, vital news (http://www.rte.ie/sport/gaa/championship/2011/0215/iberian_gaa.html).

Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Setanta_Sports_Cup) confirms the second round dates and stops there.

DRAW :
First round: Linfield v Dundalk (M1), Bohemians v Portadown (M2), Cliftonville v St Patrick’s Athletic (M3), UCD v Lisburn Distillery (M4).
First legs to be played on February 14th and 21st, second on Feb 28th and March 1st.
Quarter-finals (Provisional): Glentoran v Winners M1, Sligo Rovers v Winners M2, Winners M3 v Crusaders, Winners M4 v v Shamrock Rovers. First legs to be played on March 7th and 14th, second on March 21st and 22nd
The "provisional" bit for the quarter finals is down to a desire to have as many North V South ties as possible. I think that the most clear aspect is that Dundalk will be away to Glentoran in the first leg of the Q-F's probably on March 7th, subject to finishing the job against Linfield.
There is a domino effect for the rest of the games, depending on the results of the first round:
If Portadown beat Bohs then they are up against Sligo. However if Bohs win the whole thing turns again. I don't understand the full permutations of this, although the concept is clear, and I don't think it has been published

Makes sense to try to have as many IFA vs. FAI ties as possible. Really that's the only appeal of the tournment (well, apart from the prize money), to play teams you wouldn't otherwise meet.

Thanks Ezekial. Confirms what I'd noted. I've found reference on the IT site and a couple of others with dates. I presume the dates are further complicated by the postponement of Bohs v Portadown too

anyone care to comment on Solitude Red's question in the Ireland section? I dont believe it myself but thought the Dundalk fans might want to refute.

Complete bull****, the younger lads did up special flags for the game which had DFC logos all over them and displayed them well too. Couple of flairs lit and that was that.

As in the League of Ireland, Shamrock Rovers and Sligo Rovers are going to be the teams to beat. I'm not sure if it's possible they can avoid each other until the final should they get that far. It'll be a great final to grace the Aviva Stadium!

about 400 Dundalk fans (7 buses plus a few northern based fans) and about 200 Linfield fans.
Couldn't believe how few Linfield fans there were, took away from it a bit. They had about 150 in the stand across from us, very sparsely populated, and about 50 behind the goal.
