Surprisingly enough football is a team game and we wouldn't have qualified for 2002 without a lot of the players, particularly Shay Given and of course Jason McAteer!!

Keano still wielding the axe, post-Garvan. I'm particularly interested in the case of McAuley, haven't followed it closely but I thought he would've been one of Town's main men (being their captain and all). Moreover I wonder how the NI fans (EGreen, Gather Round etc) feel about a mainstay in their national squad being sidelined by Keano?
Personally I think his 'confrontational' chopping of personnel appears a bit desperate at this point. It's surely a bit early in the season to be so rash but Keane's never been known for a considered point of view.

can i ask a genuine question here, why is it that most of Keano's most vociferous haters on here, are Dubs. Seems to be a trend outside here too. If your talkign abotu Saipan in a group and you have a gang of lads from all over the country chances are you will get a 50/50 split, but bring in a gang of jackeens and invariably, they will in the vast majority be of the taxi driving anti keane type. What is that?????
Total garbage.
Me and most of my friends (bar one or two) were all in the Keane camp. All Dubs. First myth blown.
Some, like me, are Liverpool fans. Second myth blown.
One of my anti-Keane mates is a United fan. Third myth blown.

If he just picked his team the players would have to get on with it. If Keane continued picking his team and had a few results then the players that were not in the team would get the message.

I travelled to Euro 88 with a friend of mine and numerous other away games prior to that. A big Man U fan who turned his back on Ireland after Saipan. The first home game after Saipan I asked him why he wasn't coming to the game. "Why should I support the muppets who let Roy down?" were his exact words. He's never been to an Ireland game since and I haven't seen him socially since. :( It still divides.
Very true. However the opposite did happen as well. I know of at least two people who had season tickets at Old Trafford but post-Saipan they both refused to go to see Manchester United again while Keane was there.
On the rights and wrongs itself I remember the whole thing blew up a few days before I left for Japan. My initial reaction was that Mick has completely mishandled it and should do everything to get RK back to Japan. However, as soon as the Tommy Gorman interview happened it was clear that RK had no intention of going back so I lost a lot of respect for him. He was given every opportunity to get back in the squad and play in a world cup and he said no - that's the bit I couldn't understand at the time, and still can't.

I have found that those that I speak to who are or were anti Keane are even more anti Stephen Ireland. I think a lot of the fans who travel all over the world supporting Ireland and have done for years, felt hurt and insulted by Keanes actions, and the same feelings are felt in relation to Stephen Ireland.
Spot on mate, there's a far different split amongst those fans that actually travel away to those that watch on tv. Your point is exactly where I come from on it, people made and still make a lot of sacrifices to get to the likes of Japan, my feelings on Stephen Ireland are exactly the same as they are on Keane.
Old news now anyway, McCarthy refuses to talk about it, at this stage Keane only drags it up every time he wants a deflection. Time to let it go Roy.

Why do people have to deal in extremes. I pureposely phrased my point in such a way that I did not say all people who travel away were anti keane. I phrased it that I have found, that a lot of fans who travel away have felt let down. Drumcondra was agreeing with that point.

I like big G (ex Crues and all), and he's played well for NI recently (probably MoM in Poland). That said, a couple of Ipswich-regular mates* don't rate him as much more than a lower division stopper, and he's pushing 30. We have one less than crucial competitive game left and by September 2010 I suspect he won't be a first choice either in the national side or in English D2.
Not that we have a queue of starlets ready to replace him, you understand :)
* apparently most Ipswich fans have felt since the summer that RK was more likely than not to go within his first season...

Geysir you missed the point there. Bennocelt said another myth gone there as if Drumcondar 69er had said there was not people on both sides. You are the one reading it wrong. At no point in time did Druncondra69er say that that all fans who go to games were anti Keane. Therefore he did ot create a myth for bennocelt to burst it.

My point is, as most people seem to have easilly understood, that a far bigger proportion of armchair supporters fell down on the Keane side then then among those who actually travel to the games. Simple as that. Clear? ;)

There are those that travel away that have the same opinion, I'll give you that and never suggested otherwise but nowhere near as many relatively speaking.

Has Keane got the same yes men that he had at Sunderland as his assistants. It was obvious that "Management Team Keane" was not working for at least the last 6 months (probably longer) at Sunderland.
If Keane cannot see that there is something wrong with his management team then he should step away from management very soon.

keane on owen garvan from Ipswich Town's site:
ROY'S CHALLENGE TO OWEN
Posted on: Tue 29 Sep 2009
Owen Garvan will be hoping to stake his claim for a return to the first-team when he plays for the reserves against Northampton on Wednesday.
The Republic of Ireland U21 international is set to line up against the Cobblers at Portman Road, with kick-off at 2pm.
"Owen has played the last few games for the reserves and he will have another run out on Wednesday," confirmed Town boss Roy Keane.
"He's not in my plans at the moment and had the chance to go out on loan last week, which I thought was a good option for him to go and get some games, but I have no problem with that.
"He's a talented boy and like every player at the Football Club, he will have a chance to impress me. His attitude has been fine, he has trained well and played for the reserves.
"He's doing okay and if he plays well on Wednesday, then he may have a chance for the weekend."

Can't blame Keaner for Richard Wright dropping a corner in injury time.
Story of Wright's career - has great potential & great physique for a keep, but just makes dumb errors. Colin Doyle reminds me of him.

Being an arrogant hothead prone to rash decision making isn't a huge detriment during a playing career, if you're as talented a player as Roy was; however, these same attributes which made him such a feared midfield general are leading to his downfall, as he chops and changes too frequently, and makes no effort to build his players up at all, instead cutting them down in the press at every opportunity.
Add to this the fact that he probably has the worst scouting network in Britain, and what do you have?

Championship level, there is no excuse for this. Spend a bit of money and bring in a foreign central midfielder to run the show.

I would agree with what you say and would add that he probably paralyses his players with fear. His teams seem to too scared to relax and play football.
Put all of the above and buying players that do not appear good enough for the level he wants them to play at and it will probably end up with a sacked manager.
If it does not improve soon will he jump or be pushed.
As I said in an earlier post it seems either he or the management team that he is using are not capable of getting the necessary results.
Its a pity to see an Irishman making such a poor fist of it at the moment.
