Ah I think it'll be different this time with no Irish investors (that I know of/yet!) and no Irish chairman.

Anyway, Keaneis a god to a lot of people, yeah, and if they want to follow him in such a way I say let them at it. Who cares at the end of the day?

Shock move. Only Keane can make these headlines. Amazing stuff really. I think it's a bad move in fairness. Won't be as much money to spend as Sunderland gave him so he'll have his work cut out. Gurantee Alex Bruce is sold this summer!

Can someone price me a "Keane 32" jersey which is bit Ireland, bit Celtic and bit Ipswich?

I am willing to trade my half Oireland half United jersey plus cash in return.....

Think I remember reading that he is Owen Garvans hero so hopefully he can have a positive impact in that regard.

Nice Club.Always played good football but Keane will have to do better in the transfer market.

He hasn't actually signed yet has he? Ipswich have a decent history. If Keane does take over however, he's replacing another Irishman, so I don't see the fuss. Having said that, I'm a big fan of Keane.

I remember Roy championing Liam Miller at one point, saying he should be in the Irish squad (during the Staunton era), so I wouldn't be too sure of that!

I think it's the move Keane should have made in the first place. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I doubt Ipswich are swimming in money & cutting his managerial teeth in a club that isn't run by some celtic-tiger era businessmen as a pet project can only be good for Keane as a manager.

He had time enough to cut his teeth at Sunderland. Now we'll see if he's actually any good or not.

Jayzus... Haven't read anything about it other than what's here..

Fair play to him.. I'd have been less impressed had he taken the QPR job. He'll at least shake off the "Cheque book manager" tag.

I think he'll do well. He's a good young manager. What he did at Sunderland still merrits some level respect.

What class of "person" wishes that kind of fortune on our greatest ever player?

In Ciaran's humble opinion.....

I know I shouldn't respond to a WUM but.....

Keane was certainly one of the best players to come out of Ireland but I would still think there is a serious debate to be had whether he is "our greatest" - Giles, Brady and McGrath are all up there for me. They may not have won as many honours in England but in terms of contribution to the International team I think they all have just as strong a case.

what does "The tractor boys" refer to?

Courtesy of Wikipedia (it's quicker than typing it myself):

"A recent nickname for Ipswich Town is "The Tractor Boys", which was coined during the club's brief successful period in the Premiership (2000–01) when the team regularly competed against more fashionable clubs. The nickname is an example of self-deprecating humour referring to Ipswich's agricultural heritage."

Interesting move. Not sure it's the right one but it's an interesting one. I hope he does well. The more Irish managers we have the better. let's move on from Keane the player and focus on him as a manager. Hopefully he'll promote some young Irish players.

How sad are you?

He'll be fine at Ipswich. As long the board let him spend millions on players that he knows are any good 'just to get the numbers in'. Doesn't show up to training until Thursday before the game. The chairman and owner don't question his ability to be manager when his team is thumped at home 1-4 to a side you should be beaten at home and are second bottom of the league after spending £45million of his money. Oh, and the fans don't boo him for the team playing terrible against Northampton Town in the League Cup.

:D Brilliant.

I'll probably be slated for this but I'd love to see Keane as Ireland manager someday, with this level of buzz and box-office about the team. We're getting a decent taste of it now with Trap I suppose, but you wouldn't have Keane aiming for second place in any group, that's for sure.

I'd prefer to see if he's actually capable of managing at the highest level first personally, jury's still very much out on that count at present. Box office doesn't mean sh1t unless you're qualifying for tournaments.

And Trap is way bigger box office in management terms then Keane ever will be if you leave Sky Sports and the sycophantic elements of the Irish media out of it.

So let me get this straight. Your a Bohs fan like myself. Well done on that. And I'm guessing your Irish too?

So if Keane takes over at Rovers you'll turn to the darkside just for your beloved Roy?

What happens if the EFA offer him the English job one and he takes it. Will you be wearing the Three Lions on your chest and making trips Wembley?

Not that this "story" is of any interest to anyone other than those titiilated by the constant and ridiculous Roy Keane tabloid "porn", but where/when/why do you see this fixture taking place?

And why this English Division 2 "breaking news" in the "Ireland" forum is beyond me.

He won't have the luxury of endless funds at Ipswich to hoover up anyone that has ever kicked a football, following the theory that if you buy up enough players then surely you'll have at least 11 decent ones!! It's going be very difficult for him with a much tighter squad and also serious questionmarks over his methods and man-management skills!

I heard Elverys and Lifestyle Sports already have huge stocks of Ipswich Jerseys ordered in time for the big rush, and Ipswich have already announced plans for a pre-season tour of Ireland to be shown exclusively live on Santy Sports, just to keep all those plastic fans who are busy working on their "Keano" chants at present happy!!!:D
