And what benefit would this be to the club or team?

about the same benefit as not playing last week in kilrush  .. let his team down as captain . should he be allowed to walk straight back onto team no matter how good he is :ball:

This lads committment not only to Avenue but to Clare soccer is legendary. I understand people will open up the old argument again about GAA and soccer but I think its unfair to highlight this mans committment to avenue when he has probably given more than most. Maybe he is just interested in adding a junior football title to his collection of soccer medals.,,Avenue should still have enough against Kilrush without Rochie but unfortunately they did not and good luck to Kilrush. Maybe winning back the league is the number 1 priority this year?

Hold on nobody is on here questioning his commitment to the club and yes it is his decision what he wants to play but the management should not have a gaa player captain of any soccer club when they know if both codes clash on the same day as last Sunday the soccer club always loses out and let nobody tell me that if a player was involved in Clare soccer cup final and a gaa final on the same day which one he would pick. I love all sports but soccer is my first and i have seen this thing happen all the time and i find it very hard to take gaa players who have a big name in gaa circles and then lets be honest 99.9% of them play soccer to keep fit swan back in and straight back into soccer. These players should be made sit on the bench and fight for their places but sure that's what we accept here in clare and again i applaud Lifford for trying not to sign any gaa players. One last thing how many captains of gaa clubs would pick a soccer game over the first round of the championship???? NONE:mad:

That should always be the no.1 priority for a club like Avenue...
But does that mean they should forget about everything else?

No it just means making the league the number 1 priority:eek::p

here we go again newmarket havin a dig at rineanna..your getting a bit boring and predictable you know...

i think you'll find rineanna won 1st division in 2003...might not be the premier but definately not a area cup...

ye won the fai area final in 2007...but thats right ye didn't try win it cause its not worth winning:)

maybe you should check things out before putting your foot in your mouth..:o

no dig hacker dont be so touchy. dont see how i put my foot in my mouth. you seem abit slow today so i will say again for you, i said ye have won alot of area cups in the last ten years. never once said it was the only thing ye won (i.e. holly tournament). maybe i should put it in facts form for you.
as i said on here before relations between the two clubs is always good with healthy banter. you wont find any comment made by me having a dig at rovers and all my posts are in good humour.

On a scale of lets say....1--------10.

Probibly be a 10 myself..But then again,i do love my footie,me!

Spudd it used to be 10 but after d whole GAA thing plus turning up for training and finding only 6 players there im down to a 7.

When Rineanna had the best chance they had in a long long time of winning a proper trophy in the Clare Cup last season they blew it. Fair enough Rock won it out but surely everyone connected with Rovers was very disappointed they didnt reach the final. Last season Rineanna bottled it simple as

Its been a poor enough start alright this season but on the day they are capable of beating all teams in Clare . From talking to a few of the lads they are really looking forward to the game on Saturday. It will be a step up in standard for some of the Newmarket lads but they like the underdog tag , it suits their mindset ;).

By the way where exactly is the pitch , is it up near the ESB station on Fairhill , I think thats the area.

P.S will you be wearing a "littleman" name tag so we can identify you. Will you be responsible for the soup and sandwiches after.

Well if they couldn't beat Kilrush without him, why not?
Of course if someone played instead of him last week and had a good game maybe then he should be on the bench.

Get over it!!!!!!!
Some players do play more than one Sport, its their choice. If the Avenue heirachy decide to play or not to play the player thats their choice.
If you however were involved in the team then you could have an input in the next game team selection.
As said before this players commitment to both Avenue and Soccer in Clare (Oscar Traynor) is unquestionable.
Avenue lost the game so your argument is not as strong as had they won the game, then the sentiment of it would have been valid.
You have played enough games yourself over the years in Clare, where players had been missing from previous games and have been included in the following game, we all have, it may not be right in the bigger picture, but thats just the way it is.
Put the topic to bed and get on with more important issues.

Your not far wrong with Fairhill.O'Neill Park is directly opposite Apple Computers. At the top of Fairhill take a left,up the road about 300 yards an take a right,a left again an straight up to the top of that road an O'Neill Park is on your right hand side, road front. The weather down here is cold but fine. The pitch is lookin well an although there is a slight slope on it the surface is excellent to play on according to most visiting sides.

With regards to refreshments after the game,we will be inviting ye to the Anglers Sports lounge win lose or draw which is the best sports bar in the city. The Anglers is at the very bottom of Fiarhill so even headin home it will be very easy .The wife is from Corrifin an she has a few cousins still playin with them so no doubt there will be plenty of good banter between both parties.I wont have a name tag but if ye need anythin just ask,it wont take long to find me.

Newmarket Celtic 1-0 Grattan United

Great win for Newmarket Celtic and for Clare soccer today. Both sides had a good few chances in what was a close enough game. First chance fell to Grattan, Skinny made a great save to deny them. Mike Malley put Jimmy through and his effort shaved the post. The pair linked up again soon after but the ref pulled it for offside with jimmy through on goal, a rare poor call from him in fairness. 2nd half saw chances at both ends again, Seamus Considine didn't hesitate when he spotted the keeper just off his line but his cheeky chip went inches over. Grattan threw everything at the visitors but couldn't hit the back of the net, Eoin Kelly and Duck cleared off the line and at the other end Monty and Michael Crosby came close too. Newmarket's hunger and desire all over the pitch shone through in the end, Jimmy grabbing a dramatic 89th minute winner. The Reds deserved the win and were good value for it too at 3/1 if anyone had a punt

Super result for the lads from Newmarket... Best of luck in round 2 against Midelton. Home game so I give ye every chance. Saw Grattan myself last season and thought they were very good side.

Was there a hint of offside about Jimmy's goal??? If there was then all the better. Nice to get a decision like that away from home. Its not often it happens.

Bridge United Celebrating 40 years

Hi all, as you may already know the 2007/08 season was the 40th in the clubs history. We will be celebrating this milestone with an anniversary dinner dance on the 18th October in the Clare Inn.
Guest of Honour on the night is FAI CEO John Delaney. Tickets are €30 and all are welcome. Tickets can be purchased from any committee member and details are available on our website www.bridgeunited.net

On another note congrats to Newmarket on a great result at the weekend. With a full squad there is no reason why ye can not go another few rounds in this competition. Good stuff!

Not taking away from the Newmarket win but Grattan were missing 6/7 players from last season - obviously this result puts a more realistic picture on the chances that Newmarket have in getting any further in this tourement - but the best of luck to them

Planners with a comment like that you are waiting for some Newmarket lad to take the bait. Is this in relation to the earlier issues highlighted on this forum with regards to Skinny and Jimmy? Newmarket can only go out and play whats in front of them. Why dont you stop belittling your club even further with such comments.

no one is getting carried away. From what iv seen the only comments have been to congratulate newmrket on a good away win.this site is for giving opinions.no one will begrudge you of that. but you started by saying that u dont want to belittle newmarkets win in Cork as Grattan were missin 6/7 players. so what? What were newmrket meant to do? Call off the game.Every club that represents their county in these competitions should be encouraged. You should encourage the newmrket lads for their next game agains midleton the next time your in the village - thats the closest youll ever get to competing in the munster senior cup!:D
