POLONIA means people of Polish origin who live outside Poland, also the actual latin name for Poland as well.

LUIMINI means, well a few things bascilly but the Polish guy whos tellin me this says to him it means people with a common goal and or history ????????????

Just though I'd bring a bit of enlightenment to the place but on a more serious note we have a couple of Polish guys in our club and their very good on the ball and well able to mix it,a full 16 well that I' expect to be strong.Could be a dark horse Summervilleman as they hav'nt lost a game in the league yet,P7W4D3

PS is it not just Malahide's Saturday side? As there sunday side are intermediate and aren't in the FAI Junior, but the FAI Intermediate.

Their Sat side are decent but its not the same thing as playing their first team who have mixed it well agaist sligo, bohs etc..

It's the Saturday side alright, but they'd still be very strong and be expecting to go far in the competition. It's as much the name as anything else. For a team playing in the Second Division of the United Churches League it's a huge tie. In fairness we do have a decent side (decent enough that I'm not in the first team squad anymore :p) and should give them a game. I only joined the club this year and it's a major source of embarrassment that the first team is stuck in division 2, when most other clubs of similar size have first teams in Premier or division one.

I think you should concentrate on your own team getting through the rounds of the cups and we'll do the same.

You said Elton were handy, they were very poor, now its the Polish crowd!!!!!

We played Kilfinane last week, with half a team, and if ye dont beat them by at least 2 or 3, there'll be questions asked.

Umbro took the sponsorship of the FAI cup offered by the FAI and asked that Umbro balls be used.I dont know how much they coughed up.The Fai agreed and put it on the application form for entree. So its a rule now.

Has any Malahide side ever won the FAI Junior Cup???

No - the Saturday Lenister Senior League (LSL) is not of a particularly high standard (in the overall Junior sense), the top major division is almost a reserve league for the Sunday intermediate leagues. Sunday is when the top LSL clubs play, the top clubs in the LSL play in the intermediate divisions thus making them illegible for the FAI Junior cup.

The AUL is the top junior league in Dublin where the serious contenders for the FAI Junior cup play. Over the last 12 years, 8 AUL teams have contested the final, including two AUL representatives last season.

Portmarnock three times finalists, winner once
Ballymun twice finalists, winner once
St Kevins once finalist
Kilester once winner
St John Bosco once finalist

Only the Limerick league closely compares, having had 7 finalists in that period, Fairview Rangers winning the competition six times and Mungret/Regional being once a finalist

Regional won as well and carew park won 2-1 against pallas...think balla won 4-0 and pike beat fairview 4-3 after extra time...Fairview were 1-0 up and then pike went 3-1 and then 3-3 at full time...from what i gather pike scored the winner in the last minute of extra time....good game i am guessing?????

I'd imagine it was fairly entertaining for the big crowd there alright. Fairview dominated the first half, had Pike fairly rattled, so much so they took off o'grady after 30 mins for Morris. The worst thing to happen the View was half time....pike scored 2 goals in the first 5 mins of the second half. Another goal 10 mins later and In fairness they were on top at this stage playin good stuff. Penalty for handball then got view back in it (Purcell), and equaliser followed 5 mins later. View missed an absolute sitter early in extra time, pike had a goal disallowed which to be fair was a brutal decision. Pike finished v strongly in last 5 mins and Morris scored a cracker of a header with about a second remaining! Was blown up on kickoff. To be honest i think the way the game panned out neither team deserved to lose it,but such is football, hard for view to take after coming back from 3-1 down and losing it in the last second of extra time.

I was there too. Spot on report. The view did very well to come back to 3-3. They dominated the first half of ET. Pike dominated the second half of ET and I cant believe that goal was disallowed I was right behind the goal. (as for the celebration with shirt off etc he must have felt like a right wally as everyone was laughing!!) And Pike should have a peno but ya the view missed a sitter and the ref gave a free out there for nothing.. no-one touched the keeper. Morris scored a cracking header with the last play of the match in ET. Cracking game. Hard luck to the view.. as you said neither team deserved to lose. Massive crowd.

is it the greatest cup match of all time?? fair play to both sides, only saw extra time but by all accounts the 90 was awesome too.pity one of them has to go out so early.

Was a good one alright. Like i said for the spectators (biggest crowd i've seen for a local junior game in at least 5 years id say) it had pretty much everything. Major swings in scoring and what not. It was incredibly open for most of the game. Very very fast pace and there were very few breaks in play. A couple of "tasty" tackles it must be said, but nothing OTT. Having played the 110 mins i enjoyed it,all be it on the wrong end of the scoreline. (oh and i don't understand how it wasn't made sure that there were linesmen officiating-one man was not enough to look after such a big game and big crowd/atmosphere). Different Fairview team that got hammered there 5-1 a few weeks back, but thats neither here nor there now. Very little between the sides but Pike having 6 foot plus players in almost every position ended up being a big factor (3 headed goals).

Mike Kiely put a big dampner on the game with some needless yellow cards

Our inability to depend set plays cost us - Pike looked dangerous from every corner and free kick they got.they are a big team and fairview are a small team.In fairness Pike could have scored 5 headers at least in that game. They seem to thrive off set plays. The Fairview keeper it has to be said didnt cover himself in glory either,if he is on his line for the last 1 which he should have been the ball drops into his hands.Pike will have to sharpen up at the back though if in my opinion they are to have a realistic chance of winning this competition. There back 4 bar Mc Garry looked very slow and Christy Doyle and zubie caused them all sorts of trouble with there pace.Great game though and the best of luck to Pike.

I agree - he should have sent of Finucane in the first 10 minutes.Kicked a player off the ball in front of his eyes and all he got was a yellow, some of the yellows he gave after it were a disgrace.
