forgive me if i doubt the judgement of someone who admires the actions and behaviour of Stephen Ireland over the years.
Come on Stu Liam Gallagher says Stephen Ireland is a rightous dude.

i love doyler but a move to a club like arsenal could be a career-killing move, he won't start. villa would be better. but for now i think he should stay with wolves

I hate Doyle too. Who needs all this guile nonsense. As soon as I saw him on the wing I thought (like all the Everton defenders) here comes a high ball into the middle. The ******* decided to hit it along the ground. Flukey Doyle I thought as SEB scored a tap in. Lucky, lucky player. All this holding stuff and turning players (joke! defenders like Jagielka)on a six pence is a complete waste of time. Especially when your team mates benefit.

Have you won the argument now? Mancini hasn't bid for Doyle yet, therefore he's worse than Daryl Murphy? Thank you, sincerely, for contributing to the intellectual betterment of this forum.

Sounds like he was hustling pretty well, good to hear he set up their goal too. Anyone see the game? Anyone know how Doyle did overall?

He did very well, he's exactly the type of player Wolves need. He'll start every match when he's fit, even when Fletcher comes back. He did a great job on the right hand side of attack, closing down defenders well and making intelligent runs. Too bad he's wasted at a club like Wolves who have no chance of competing for anything.

its great that doyle does a lot of defensive work but i want to see him more in the box a bit more scoring goals especially for ireland. he never really looks threatening, we dont want him to turn into a dirk kuyt type. a worker but not a scorer.

From FourFourTwo's The Premier League's most underrated players: http://fourfourtwo.com/lists/thepremierleaguesmostunderratedplayers.aspx
2. KEVIN DOYLE, Wolves
Though far from the most prolific of strikers, to judge Kevin Doyle on goals alone would be to ignore the many other facets of his game that make him the player he is.
An incredibly hard-working, resilient striker, Doyle is one of the league’s finest when it comes to leading the line and providing an outlet for team-mates in that 4-5-1 system. It’s a lonely role, but Doyle performs it selflessly. A stripped-down-but-no-less-functional iPod nano to the Ipad that is Didier Drogba, if you will.
A revelation at Reading after joining from Cork City for a mere £78,000, Doyle’s tireless running and incredibly selfless displays were central to Wolves escaping relegation last season. His 9 goals in 34 appearances were also a help, of course.

The video in the article is a stark reminder of how good Doyle's technique is, and what an all-round quality footballer he is. Great in the air despite not being that tall, takes a fantastic penalty, and is comfortable smashing the ball into the net with either foot. Some of the goals in there are excellent. And they haven't even included his goals against Slovakia or Andorra.

Im probably going to get slated for this, but if I had to choose I would have Robbie over Doyler. At the end of the day, you want your strikers to score goals and the reality is that Robbie is far more likely to get you goals than Doyle. If Doyle could add another 5/6 goals to his season tally then he would be top class.

Elroy, I think it's an issue of lack of service and the fact that he plays up front on his own quite a bit.
If he played in a top half Premier League team and had more creative players around him to set him up I'd bank on him getting more goals. He's a good finisher.

Yeah, I think the fact he's with Wolves makes it harder for him to score goals. If he was with Everton for example (cause Yakubu is dire), he'd have much better support.

Without a doubt. Very tidy finisher.

The Yak is a sublime finisher when fully fit, but I think his days of full fitness may be in the past (there's no way in hell he's only 27). There's definitely a vacancy in Everton's strikeforce with Saha also on his way out, Anichebe permanently injured and James Vaughan not considered up to snuff.

I think the only way Doyle would get a move from Wolves is if he forced one, which isn't his style. I doubt Mick would sell him for less than $10-million, and I doubt any team would pay that for him.
Perhaps if they were relegated Doyle could move on, but otherwise he'll be with Wolves for the long term.

Missed a great chance for Wolves just before half time. Again he looks out of sorts. I can see McCarthy dropping him if he fails to score soon. Good to see Stephen Hunt warming up (and getting serious stick from the Chelsea halfwits). Hunt on second half and Doyle is having a much better game now. Would love to see Hunt score and shut up the Chelsea morons

He certainly needs to start scoring if they are to get out of the relegation zone,
there is a 5 point gap now, however a few more points and you are mid table.
Still at least he has opened his account, no great surprise it was a header.

Weird game today. Was invisible for large stretches of the second half which in fairness his whole team in general was. Looks like there is little cohesion with Wolves in the attacking zone at times. They could have tied it up late.

no tets, a good penalty is right in the corner, all doyles had was power, it was pretty much middle left. anytime the keeper dives the right side its a save.

Have you considered the possibility that Doyle kicking the ball one way and the keeper diving the other way may not have been coincidental?
paul_oshea
16/01/2011, 12:56 PM
did you see the penalty, he went exactly where he looked.
The point is, at least 50% of the time the keeper dives the right way. If you hit it either high in the corner or right in the corner then it doesnt really matter if the keeper guesses right, because he wont get near it. Had hart guessed the right way everyone would be saying "poor penalty by doyle" etc etc. Its funny how yes/no ppl can be about it.

You're discounting the possibility that something that Doyle did (or looked like doing) influenced the keeper's decision to move in a certain direction. Certainly, some keepers will just choose a side and dive there, and some players will just choose a side and kick the ball there, but there is such a thing as sending the keeper the wrong way, so I'm not sure your statistic is accurate. (That said, I think a lot of penalty takers get credit for 'sending the keeper the wrong way' when they may not have done so)
Pat Bonner always said he looked at the penalty taker's feet to help him decide which way the penalty would go. I know other keepers look at the distance between the non-striking foot and the ball, which others look at the extent to which the penalty taker's body is leaning away from the ball - there is logic to that which both keeper and penalty taker can try and use to their advantage. For some, if not all, it's more than just a case of a penalty taker and keeper just deciding to go one way or the other.

He can claim at least a 20% success rate for this method. :)

If you have seen the keeper move then all you need to do is make sure you don't
miss the goal. No point in putting it near the post - you might miss

If you score it's a good penalty. If you miss it was crap. Simple.

A good player but his lack of goals is one of the reasons why Wolves are in the relegation spot. He needs to start scoring and quickly.

I may get slated for this, but on current form (I know Doyler missed the last few wks with injury) Long is a better option than Doyle.

Ended up 5-1, I'd like to see him score more against better quality opposition.
I didn't see the goal.
Walters scored a good goal against a better team Cardiff, guided a (headed) corner in from a very narrow angle.
He just scored another, again good work from a similar narrow angle.

Definite last touch by Doyle on the side of his face. They all count. Would love to see Wolves win this match and Doyle score again. And we need to chase down O'Hara and Hamill. Both playing very well.
