Why Hartlepool? Watford and Brentford my soft spots, both have climbed since ;p

A good friend of mine introduced me and others , his brother in law is from there. It’s not the prettiest town in the world but lots of good people in that neck of the woods.

Are you saying they made up the quotes? Why hasn't Duffy come out and said he was falsely quoted?

That was a bit of bait being thrown out. I believe there was some tentative approaches from England but both playing level and finances on offer were below what was wanted / expected.

There was very solid interest from Derry and a two year deal on offer all but officially; they were Duffy’s preferred LOI option if the finances were right but Derry can’t or won’t come close to Dundalk.

Anyone that laughs at Jack Byrnes move hasn’t a clue about football. The barstool brigade love the premier league not football, I know that doesn’t always apply but for the majority it’s true. It’s a good move for the chap and it’s refreshing to see a Irish player go down that route.

Excellent quote. I've been to a handful of Leeds matches (pre-Bielsa) and keep an eye on their results, wouldn't consider myself a supporter really just enjoy the day out with my pal who goes over often, but I get called a band wagoner now from my die-hard Liverpool/Man United mates who have been to far less games of their 'beloved' team than I have Leeds matches. Also being told by them that Bielsa isn't actually that good of a manager because if he was Leeds would be higher than 12th is another snippet into how little they know about football whilst also being much more consumed by the EPL product.

Ah the irony, the barstooler brigade excuse for not going to see Dundalk in recent years was that they didnt want to be called band wagoners - changed from just deriding Dundalk FC is progress I suppose!

Duffy set to re-sign with Dundalk then..,

Confirmed.

But, But, But he was going abroad and not signing with a LOI club wasn’t he.

Some silly season rumors on LOI Facebook of a South Korean lad joining Dundalk? Out of left-field, could be a load of nothing. Interesting all the same.

Big couple of days for Dundalk there with Duffy staying and Byrne leaving Rovers, could be crucial for next season.....

Yes it was a big signing ok, had he left it would have raised a lot of questions on the direction the club were taking.

This should encourage better quality to join now and will increase hopes for a much better league season ahead for Dundalk.

It would be interesting to know if we didn’t want to resign him or lost out to sligo. It would be a big indicator for how next season will go for us imo.

Sligo signed Jordan Gibson, who was at Pats last season......
Talented dribbler and works very hard but on the flipside his finishing/final ball was terrible a lot of the time. If he can improve on that then he'll be a hit with Sligo

That pay off will pinch a bit!!

True but if he’d stayed we’d have had the full seasons wage along with accommodation so while it’ll be expensive getting rid it’s probably better off. He didn’t work out at all and was the highest earner. Such a disappointment.

Luke McNally linked with Lincoln also today. Have Pat's many players contracted from last year ? Because if not who is there left to sign from the usual League of Ireland merry go round ? Few ex Waterford & Cork ? It's looking bleak for them.

It is bleak at the moment. I think we will be looking at youth players and uk imports next season , it has the potential for disaster.

McNally is in contract so won’t be going without a fee. In contract as it stands are Luke McNally, Shane Griffin, Jamie Lennon, Chris Forrester, Darragh Burns, Ben McCormack, Ronan Coughlan. There’s more too but they’ve yet to be announced. In fairness the likes of Derry and Waterford are in a similar situation but yeah there’s not much around in terms of replacements knocking around the league. I’d say O'Donnell could look to the UK market again this year

He fell out with the manager there and didn’t have the best of time all round, gets on very well with Devine and is a guaranteed goalscorer in the League of Ireland so would be a top quality addition for us especially if on a permanent basis assuming Derry’s handing out of two year contracts continues. He will be a future international player for the north of that there is little doubt in my mind.

All that being said he is nowhere near having signed for us as of yet as confirmed by Devine Derry are in very early stage of talks with Sheffield Utd and aren’t even aware of what Sheff Utd want to do with him yet, he is still under contract there until the end of the 21/22 English season.

Things had progressed at least as far as this last year and Parkhouse was doing part of our pre season last year with no deal done so it’s far from a sure thing.

Dundalk to sign a heap of foreign lads. Two internationals rumored from the Faroes and Latvia, and a young Italian winger as well. Flores on the way out, there was a rumour of him to St. Pats, but maybe he is lookng for a bit more cash.

Is Lee Desmond still not signed up? Could be a great signing by someone.

We seem to be in no real rush until there's some clarity on the league starting, funding etc. It's sensible on one hand but on the other you'd worry that there won't be much out there in the way of replacing the amount of players that have left by the time that happens.

Speaking of which, the best keeper in the league by a country mile, along with Joey OBrien, have renewed their contracts for another year with the Champions.
We may have the lost the best player in the league since joey ndo, but the other clubs will need to do well to finish ahead of Rovers next season, particularly if Joey and Alan Mannus are fit and available next season.

It certainly will be, one of the local papers has an interview with Magilton, he confirms he is moving to live in Dundalk, and they have up to 7 more players they 'hope to tie down'. One already in as the new GK, I`m assuming another is Gartland, so still leaves up to 5 more, one will have to be another GK, but Colovic is moving on though, P6 seem to be going big on the spending.

Advantage is 'usually' with the defending champions and with Rovers having the more settled squad, they will definitely start as favs in my book.

Nephew and to my knowledge went from Maiden City straight to Sheff Utd where he has had a couple of loans. Only played junior football here apart from the loan at Derry.

McCarthy's sacking by Apoel must put Byrne in a very uncomfortable and difficult position. Wouldn't particularly like to be in his shoes at the moment. Must feel like a complete fish out of water.

Very disappointing for Byrne. McCarthy's sacking makes it very difficult for him, will he even get a decent chance? Odds are high on him moving on.

Byrne knew the risks and his agent would likely told him Mick wouldn't be there too long. How many managers have they had in 5 years? Wouldn't have taken a rocket scientist to work out he'd be there without Mccarthy for most of the period. Mick probably got a nice payoff and a holiday. Byrnes sitting in a nice wage and he' ll have another two mangers by this time next year. Chairman was happy to sign him and he'll be telling the next manager to play him.

Byrne would have hoped McCarthy would have been there for another couple of months at least though, to help him settle in a bit better.
They go and hire a Cypriot manager now, and he has to fast track learning the language, no familiar faces around, and is a long way from home. Becomes a lot more difficult all of a sudden

Nesta99

McCarthy hasnt had much luck in the last few jobs especially at Ipswich and with the delay to Euro2020 and not getting the chance to make the finals with both covid and the other virus Delaney running amok. It has to be a difficult one for Byrne, he took a punt o going to Cyprus undoubtedly thinking that McCarthy will help the settling in process on and off the pitch. He's already known for feeling homesick so it was a risk and that safety net is now gone. Hopefully he will suck it up and prove that he has matured and show his worth on the pitch - if he gets the head down and focuses on football and not get a does of the yips instead he will be grand!

It would have been all greek to him no matter who was in charge.
