2 Year Contract

I see Dundalk have tried offering some of their players 6 month contracts. I wonder is it just a strange negotiating tactic or what but either way it’s degrading and insulting to the players who have families to support and mortgages to pay. It’s not as if they’re Jack Wilshere for example who’s had a ridiculous injury record and is a multi millionaire

I must be a grumpy old man at this stage, but I'm not overwhelmed by any of the signings so far. I don't know mccann, but of the other 3 neither Hoare or Gannnon really wanted to come to Rovers in my view and Mandrax has a bit to go to prove himself worthy of a place in Rovers starting 11.
What this does clearly mean is Jack Byrne is gone.😭😭
Rovers will clearly be odds on favourites for next year, mainly because dundalk look like they're being run by a clown troupe, but it remains to be seen how these 4 new faces blend into the tight knit group that's already there.

Meant to add,
The froth-mouthing bozos will be a picture next year, now that Danny boy is wearing the Hoops
Dublin is green & white bozos, and dont you forget it. 😘
Sean Gannon is the best right back in the league and will be a great signing. Looks after himself and will give top class performances.

Not over the moon with Mandriou but Bradley got Burke to cop on to himself and he had a similar ****e attitude when he first joined. Needless reds and no worth ethic. Still gets a silly yellow here and there but he works hard and has improved his overall game and level of professionalism.
Gannon is quality and Marshall can learn from him while he fights for the spot. Getting Finn, who has lost a yard or two of pace, back into the middle is a bonus as well.
What the hell are Dundalk playing at though? Are they just using the contracts to force out players in the hopes they can attract better ones or do they think the lure of Oriel Park and working under Filippo will be enough to beat Rovers to players signatures even with worse terms offered? All in all, when you go back to some of the bizarre stories Dan McDonnell covered in the Indo, it seems like an absolute ****show. I wouldn't bet against Magilton sorting it out but he needs to act quick and get Bill out of the picture.

Cant agree here, no idea about McCann but Gannon is a super player, Hoare is a qualityplayer when played in the right position and Mandriou is a huge talent, look at what how Rovers have developed Pico, Byrne and Burkey for a start and Mandriou has huge potential.
If Jack is leaving as i suppose is likely then these 4 for a start are a hell of a start to replacing him and improving the squad.
Looks like a squad built for a 50 game season :)

The players were very well looked after in earned bonuses over the past 6months. So it does seem a strange way to go about business saying how they dealt with the players in rewarding europa Lge qualification.

Can John Mountney play in every position on the pitch at the same time?
Yes, while also sitting on the bench. He is versatile. Jack of all trades, and that is probably why he struggled to make any one position his own.

All the angst from dundalk could be correct or could be a bit premature.
So far its Gannon and Hoare out who would have been regular starters + mountney probably and a striker in.
What happens next is the key.

Neil O Riordan had a great article on Dundalk fiasco in sun today just read his piece. Wonder will JM outlast BF as I cant see either of them being a good partnership. JM lasted 6mths at QPR when they were notorious for changin mgr and outlasted few other ST mgrs so interestin to see wot happens next.

I might have spoke to soon , Neil o riordan in the sun quoting JM saying he is leaving Big bill to the contract negotiations, ......not exactly what a sporting director should be doing.
He cant believe that is the right thing to do

when we are struggling to avoid the bottom 2 maybe Bill might see the error in his ways. There is balance to introducing new ways of doing things rather than believing you can revolutionise how contracts are dealt with. Surely with P6s other football interests they have advisors. Feels like Bill is making his own club targets impossible to attain. I still think that JM is playing the quiet game until he can settle in to his role properly, he was/is to be the buffer between the staff and board. Set a budget and then let the football side of the club allocate it.

trying to put myself inside Bills head, Rovers cant sign everyone and most other clubs cant come near competeing with DFC on wages so is it a case of lose a few but save a lot of loot overall by cutting back overall.....only way i can put a bit of logic on it.
Duffy, Gartland, Murray appear to be staying plus the core of a squad is there so as i said above not a crises yet but the next steps are important.

There's competing with Rovers, but there's also progression in Europe to consider. It seems vital to keep the finances ticking over.
That Twitter link is also saying Dane Massey has been released. Don't know if that's true, or how regular he was, but it's another indication there's a decent clear-out planned anyway. Mick Neville gone too as head of youth development after a disagreement with Bill.
This will test Dundalk's recruitment one way or another.

To be fair I think Magilton just said he wasn't getting in the way of negotiations Bill had already started but that it was his in his remit moving forward. I could be wrong but it seems like he stepped into a situation and didn't want to immediately get into conflict. He has 4 years to sort it out so might just be biding his time. It's already such a mess that he should be able to go to Bill and suggest someone closer to the players needs to handle this.
They haven't lost that much yet outside of Gannon. If Duffy goes though....

Depends on the offers he has. Contracts aren't as plentiful as they were over there I expect. He's not old by any means at 26 but at the same time he's a little older than most who move over and signing a one or two year contract over there is a bit more of a gamble than it would be at 21 or 22.

Id be shocked if Magilton is there in 4 years time
This is a very risky process P6 are doing, seems to be 12 month contract, you do well, have another year. The other thing though is wages, they will still probably offer more than the rest, and are still paying 52 weeks, its just the 12 month thing this is nonsense in my book.
For example, I am quite sure Gannon would have accepted a 2 year deal, and that would have been totally warranted also, what a player he was, won 5 leagues and 3 cups with us, so nothing but praise for him with this time at DFC. Hoare, I could take it or leave it.
Seems Duffy wants to try and look to have one last go at England, if no offers, he will most likey sign back, but they will need to make an exception on the 12 month b/s.
Gartland, McMillan, Dummingam, D.Kelly (1 year extension trigger) probably Murray and Flores being 50/50 are the others in the picture to return.
Seems confirmed to be released or will be soon are Massey, Mountney, McCarey, G.Kelly, Patching (will have to do a deal there as under contract), Odawu, not sure on the rest who are fringe players, cant bee too many.
Leaves currently signed up for 2021, as Boyle, Cleary, Leahy, Shields, Sloggett, McEleney, Hoban, Colovic & Midtskogen (new signing), & young lad Cocoran who came on as a sub v Arsenal.
Ps sbgawa - you don't want to even think of getting inside Mad Bills head !

i would have thought that was a positive as they are hardly signing on to a team with no budget.

This mentions Andre Wright looks to be returning to England too. Will be a tough job replacing the talent Bohs are losing from their squad this winter, that’s Grant, Lunney, Mandroiu, Kirk, Corcoran and possibly Wright and Lyons out the door. Any Bohs fans heard rumours on replacements?

Personally think Lyons is the biggest loss if he leaves, very impressive player any time I've seen him, don't think Bohs will miss Mandroiu as his head hasn't been right this season

I dont agree they didnt want to come to rovers , they could have stayed at dundalk if they wanted to. The 12 month contract issue wouldnt have been an issue for either as does anyone believe theybwouldnt gat a club at the end of next season if dundalk decided not to go again. The reason they left os likely to be because of the lack of respect involved in offering such short contracts as well as a general happiness to play for Rovers. Most pros are happy to play where they are respected and feel they can win things.

Goalkeeper (among many other positions) is a real worry now for Pats, I’d have loved Murphy (who we were talking to) or Brian Maher back from Bray but both have now signed back with their clubs while pats have lost Clarke and kearns

Peter Cherrie only decent GK on the pfai list. It’s been a concerning off season for us. If we go for a punt from the uk it’s just a lottery. I wonder if SOD is after McCarey who is on the list, seems a long shot.

It seems a bit of a risk releasing both keepers without a backup plan in place. Even if Kearns is only a reserve, he's more than Pats have now.

SOD either has a masterplan or hasn’t a clue what he is doing. It will soon be revealed. I have a gut feeling what it is but will wait and see.
