did a guy called Paisley leave city about the same time as those others you have mentioned? i think he came home and played with with longford.i wonder if he might have been a similar case?
Yeah, that's Stephen Paisley. At one time the keeper and 2 centre halves for the Ireland underage side were all at city, Paul Murphy in goals with Paddy McCarthy and Paisley in front of him.
Last I heard of Murphy he was at Swansea, but I think he's moved on again.

Sorry, you're right, Brian Murphy, he's played 3 times this season according to soccerbase - http://www.soccerbase.com/players_details.sd?playerid=24760
With any luck they'll go up and he might get a run in the Championship

As far as I can remember there was nothing between Murphy & Henderson at underage level. In the U20 WC in the UAE, Gerry Smyth alternated the two as they were deemed equally good.

Missed this earlier in the week, Diarmuid O'Carroll scored twice as Celtic's U-19's progress at the expense of Aberdeen after a 4-3 win in extra time. Paul Cahillane was an unused substitute after playing 3 times for Ireland's U-17s last week.

leicester v crystal palace 2-0
McCarthy and Maybury played for leicester with Maybury returning to r.b. due to an injury to the usual guy who plays there and he did fine. McCarthy had a decent game i thought, winning header after header, he was again captain but will now serve a 2 game ban, on that very subject he was again booked on friday when he went through Morrison from behind near the touchline on halfway,a bit of a needless foul i thought.
Morrison played 45mins for palace but did not appear for the 2nd half due to a head injury recieved just before half time when he got a knee in the ear area from the leicester keeper at a set piece, it was a bad one. i thought palace missed him in the 2nd half when they had a lot of posession without creating many openings, whereas in the opening period, with less posession he and Johnsons movement and interplay had almost opened leicester up on a few occasions.
Macken came on about midway through the 2nd half and did win a few headers.

O'Carroll scored another 2 on Saturday in a 3-1 win.
Diarmuid O'Carroll: Seems to have got his confidence back playing with the youths and led the line superbly throughout the game. Scored two and was a willing runner into the channels. Had a good tussle with Killie's giant stopper Ryan O'Leary, who was watched by his father, ex-Celt Pierce O'Leary. All "Dermo" needs now is an extra yard of pace and a bit more confidence in his own ability.
Paul Cahillane: The slightly built 16-year-old left winger played for 47 minutes on the right of midfield and acquitted himself well. Came into his own late in the second half when he fired in a succession of dangerous crosses. Limped off two minutes from time. Could perhaps do with working harder on crossing with his right foot.
Graham Carey: Another left winger! Came on for the last 11 minutes and was unlucky not to score at least one goal. Seems very confident, with lots of pace and skill. Only 16, so will come into his own next season when he may be tried in central midfield or even up front.

GIBSON CAPTAIN'S UNITED RESERVES IN DALLAS CUP OPENER
Ireland u19 international Darron Gibson was handed the captaincy for Man United in their opening game against Real Madrid in the Dallas cup.
United's Reserves made a winning start to their Dallas Cup campaign with a hard-fought victory over Real Madrid.
A record DC attendance of 17,105 filled the Pizza Hut Park Stadium as Fraizer Campbell's brace and a penalty from Giuseppe Rossi gave the Reds the spoils.
Derry born Gibson was instrumental in United taking the lead when he struck a trademark long-range volley towards goal in the 51st minute, and Campbell managed to divert the ball's course into the back of the net.

Extract from The Times' match report:
Danns, signed from Blackburn Rovers, took centre stage by heading in an 83rd-minute cross from Mark Yeates, who is on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, and turning in a centre from Billy Clarke at the far post on 90 minutes for his sixteenth goal of the season.

Jim O'Brien and Darren O'Dea started while Diarmuid O'Carroll was a late sub as Celtic's reserves came from a goal down to draw with Kilmarnock's second string. Just came across my team sheet for the FA Premier Reserve League game on the 22nd March 2006 between Portsmouth and Watford. Just the two names I came across for Watford. Joe O'Cearuill and John Joe O'Toole. I didnt have the team sheet until after the game so I didnt take too much notice and it was a very very cold night on the South coast. Anyhow both are London born. Joe is a 3rd year 'scholar' and started and John Joe is a first year 'scholar'. Apologies if either have been mentioned and its all in the names.

Karl Moore and Garry Breen started for Man City, while Michael Daly was an unused sub, in their 3-0 FA Youth Cup First Leg loss to Liverpool, for whom Jimmy Ryan was an unused sub. From the reports, it seems Karl Moore was part of Man City's best moves, setting up 2 decent chanches that weren't converted, while Garry Breen shot wide from inside the area. Probably would have scored if it was Saudi Arabia ;)

leicester v plymouth 1-0.
McCarthy and Maybury both played, Maybury, who is fast becoming a utility man, popping up this week in the left-back berth, his fifth position of the season and third in 3 games but he did fine, defending well and even probing forward on his weaker side on a handfull of occasions, one in particular when he cut inside onto his right and produced a cracking centerhalfs nightmare of a ball whipped kneehigh across the 6 yard box, which was deserving of a finish.
Mr. McCarthy came straight back in as captain, his usual partner in the middle was beginning a ban of his own so the decision to bring Paddy back after his most recent ban, was made for the manager. he did fine, he led, organised, was strong in the air and kept it simple on the ground generally picking out the right midfield player to begin the plays.the leicester defence definately is better for having him at the heart of it.he didnt come to the referees attention at all today.
on one occasion though, half an hour in, he didnt get hold of a clearence properly when in his own area, scuffing it straight to a plymouth player, this player lofted the ball into the area and McCarthy rose to head it clear, but again put it straight to the feet of an oncoming opponent, imediately again the ball came Paddys way but again he mistimed the clearence and it fell to an opposing player who was by the touchline, this player was then fouled, so it led to even more pressure on the home defence in the shape of a set-piece.
leicester got away with it,and at this level mistakes like these can go unpunished but i found myself wondering if he were to be called up and thrice gave the ball straight back to decent international opposition on the edge of the area, theres every chance it would cost a goal.
but this blip apart, he had a very accomplished 90.

heres an interview with McCarthy from the bluearmy site, about this and next season.
We're on right track for next season - McCarthy
by Bill Anderson
Leicester City's emerging onfield leader Paddy McCarthy was back for the win over Plymouth and feels it was the perfect way to finish the home fixtures of a traumatic season.
City have battled their way out of the drop zone to be safe with time to spare and the form of the Irishman, long earmarked for the skipper's role, was instrumental in that.
His return from a two-match ban helped towards another clean sheet and another three points, and he said: "We didn't want the home games to end on a sour note.
"We knew after the Coventry match there were six points up for grabs and that would give us a more respectable finish in the table. We desperately wanted the points against Plymouth and we got them.
"There is no substitute for confidence and we want to take a lot of it into next season. The new manager has an idea how to wing ames in this league. We are going to have an inexperienced squad which will have learned valuable lessons from the way this season has gone and that should stand us in good stead."
High expectations will no doubt be fermenting in the close season but McCarthy warned: "We will not get carried away but we will be wanting to be there or thereabouts next season, which is where this club ought to be."
McCarthy missed the Easter games through his ban and looked on as City went through a stormy clash with Coventry a week ago. That was the sort of encounter he was perhaps better missing and he said: "It was great to come back with a win after a frustrating time last week.
"I thought the Coventry game was made for me but you learn from these things and hopefully it will stand me in good stead for next season."
McCarthy's growing maturity also manifested itself in the way he handled the towering presence of Vincent Pericard. It was the sort of physical challenge that used to see him found wanting and he says his improvement is down to guidance from the coaching staff.
He added: "When I came here it was with an intention to learn about the game and learn about this league - and I am still learning my trade.
"I have been taught a lot by the previous gaffer Craig Levein and now by Robert Kelly and Mike Stowell.
"Every day I come in to training with a smile on my face and I go away having learned something else."

Stephen Ireland made a much earlier than expected return from a knee injury to take his place for Man City reserves in their 2-1 win over Wolves' reserve side. The Scottish born striker at Celtic, Jim O'Brien, seems to be impressing in the reserves. A comment from a Celtic fan:
"Eating my tea the other night and watching the pathetically named "Daily huddle" on CTV, they did a wee feature on the youth striker. I was astonished. This guy looks to be the real deal, and reminded me of a young Charlie nicholas with socks and an acceptable haircut."

southampton v leicester 2-0
leicester included McCarthy as captain, and Maybury while Potter played 75 mins for the saints, McCarthy is credited with a fine block in the first half, and had 2 goalbound headers saved in the game. he also picked up a booking for a foul on Rasiak.
Potter also had a goal bound effort saved.
full report: http://www.lcfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/Match/MatchReport/0,,10274~29265,00.html
the season as a whole has been more good than bad for leicesters irish contingent, McCarthy has always started when available and could well be named captain proper for the coming season, however the side cannot stop conceding from setpieces and this has led to consant speculation of another centrehalf being on the way, a taller more dominant/rugged old fashioned type player more than likely, and with 5 recognised centrehalves in a paper-thin squad already it will be interesting to see how it all takes shape and who winds up elsewhere.
he has collected 11 yellows and 2 reds and therefore spent quite a bit of time suspended, but will hopefully improve this side of his things,as he has other areas of his game, several of the bookings have been for going through the back of players near halfway, with no real danger imminent, so if he can cut that habit out then it will improve his disciplinary stats considerably.
Maybury just seems comfortable at this level, always starts, can play a number of positions and was stand-in captain on seveal occasions, but he has never shown the drive and form which put him in contention for player of the year last season despite only arriving in january.
Sheehan set himself a target of 10 first team appearences but has managed 3 which includes one as sub. his red card earlier in the season, followed by a lenghty injury havent helped here. on the upside, however, he has done enough to earn a new 2 year contract from the new manager and with several players filling in at l.b. as the club is currently without a recognised player for that spot, there remains the hope that he has Sheehan in mind for that spot longterm. next season will be a big one for him as there is another academy lad, also a l.b., who is currently excelling for leicester and underage for england.
Logan has progressed this year, making it to the bench with league points at stake on a couple of occasions, he has also impressed greatly on loan at boston in league 2. he also did enough to earn a one year extention to his contract. with both first team keepers failing to completely convince and make the spot their own, there will hopefully be oppertunities for him, as he is still only 20.

some of you may remember me going on about a young midfielder, Stephen Dawson, who turned down a one year deal at leicester this time last year, in favour of a 2 year deal at mansfield town. well it turned out that his reserve team manager at leicester, Peter Shirtliff, had taken up the same role at mansfield, so this probably influenced him.
Anyway, in his first season as a first-teamer he has established himself as a regular there making 34 appearences, here: http://www.mansfieldtown.premiumtv.co.uk/page/News/ProfilesDetail/0,,10325~30613,00.html , scoring one goal and keeping his nose clean with only 3 yellows. probably off the radar now in international terms though.
it didnt all go so well for Gavin Peers, who joined mansfield at the same time from blackburn, he had his contract terminated by mutual consent some months back, as did Neil McCafferty at another club in this area Rushden and Diamonds, having gone there form charlton. i dont know where either player is now.
