Conal Platt (http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/team/youth/platt/) - FC - 14.10.1986
Conal Platt was on Football Focus this morning. He was released by Liverpool and looking for a new team. He played in a match with other unattached players with a load of scouts watching. He got injured during the match but apparantly there's still interest from lower league clubs.

Not much, just googled him. He was at an U-16's trial for the Ireland underage teams at the end of December arranged by Ireland U-16 manager, Vincent Butler. He has been in a few Ireland Under-15 squads.

This weekends action
-Dunne played full game for Man City (lost 1-0 home to Bolton) did quite well saving City a couple of times.
-Willo Flood played first 45 mins, looked ok, a couple of decent crosses was subbed for McManaman in what I think was more of a tactical change (Flood isnt as attacking as McManaman and City were 1 down at half time)
-Nolan played for Bolton (I dont think he will play for us, tho technically he can, and I didnt think Macken would a few years ago)
-Kenny Cunningham played (full 90) for Birmingham in their 2-0 loss at West Brom
-Clinton was a non-playing sub in the above fixture, Steve Bruce brought on Blake instead of him
-Kilbane played the full 90 for Everton in thir 1-0 home defeat to Blackburn
-Stevie Reid played the 90 for Blackburn and had IMO a very impressive game, I hope he makes a squad for a friendly soon as he's been doing well of late
-Roy Keane played the full 90 for Man Utd at Palace, was prob their best player.
-O'Shea was an unused sub in the above.
-Matt Holland had a solid 90 mins for Charlton at Fulham (0-0)
-Given played the full 90 for Newcastle in their 1-0 home win v Liverpool as did Carr, but no sign of O'Brien.
-Finnan played the full 90 of the above fixture for Liverpool
-Delap played 50 mins for S'hampton in their 1-0 home win vs Spurs.
-Kelly played c. 70 mins for Spurs, Reid played 75 mins and then Robbie came on for Reid and played the last few mins.
-Duffer played about 70 mins for Chelsea in their 3-1 win at Norwich City.
Championship
- Quigley played almost the whole game for Millwall in their 1-1 draw at home to Leeds. Anyone see the match ?
- Kenny played full 90 in nets for Sheff Utd in their 1-0 loss at Cardiff, Quinn came on for the last 5 or so mins.
- Lee was suspended for Cardiff in the above fixture.
- Kennedy played full 90 for Wolves (won 4-1 at Crewe)
- Coughlan played full 90 for Plymouth (lost 1-0 at Derby)
-Maybury played all but the last few mins for Leicester and Connolly played full 90 in their 1-0 loss at home to Forest.
-Rowlands and Gallen played full 90 in QPRs 0-0 (home) draw with Reading
-Dave Kitson played full 90 in the above for Reading
-Kav played 70 mins of his debut for Wigan (1-0 home win v Ipswich).
-Breen played full 90 for Sunderland (won 2-0 at Burnley, Friday match), Thornton played well in the 70 mins he was on the pitch for them.
League 1 (only know some of the matches)
-Joe Murphy played full 90 in Walsall's 2-0 defeat at Blackpool
-Delaney played full 90 for Hull in their 3-1 win at Prenton Park (had a good game according to people there)

Big list. :)
Players could only change allegiance in the calander year 2004 if they played for another country before that afaik (could be an age limit though) so afaik Nolan et al can't declare for us anymore.

Coventry res 3-2 Arsenal res
Stokes scored 2, Barrett scored 2. Sean Kelly and Stephen O'Donnell also started for Arsenal. Sean Cooney started for Coventry.
Neil Banfield on Stokes:
"He's got another two goals, and to be fair to Tony he's playing on the right side of midfield but he's scoring again and doing a job for the team which is good. His education is good as he is learning another position. I know he wants to play down the middle but he's done ever so well for us tonight."
West Brom res 1-0 Birmingham res
James O'Connor started for West Brom. Marcus Painter came on as a sub for Birmingham.
Bolton res 2-1 Liverpool res
Joey O'Brien captained a Bolton team which included Pedersen, Jaidi and Campo. Potter and Partridge started for Liverpool with Partridge going off after 27 minutes with his 3rd injury of the season.
Everton res 1-0 Man City res
Patrick Boyle started up front again for Everton, Anthony Gerrard also started if thats worth mentioning. Stephen Ireland was the only Irish player in the City team and he was involved in most of their chances. Good news is that Willo Flood wasn't included in the squad while Croft and Bradley W-Phillips started. Looks like he's in line for another start, maybe.
Portsmouth res 3-0 Spurs res
Marc Wilson started for Pompey and Mark Yeates started for Spurs. Yeates had a few chances.

John Fitzgerald missed 1 game for Bury, because he was playing for the U-21's, since he joined them on loan in January. Other than that he has started every game for them.
Bury are one of the few league 2 teams with a decent message board (http://www.themightyshakers.co.uk/forum/index.php) and I've been looking to see what the fans think of him. It seems he had a slow start but has come on leaps and bounds in just 8 matches, and is improving with every game. He made the "Team of the day" in the News of the World last weekend. The fans all seem to agree that the only loan player that has been a success is Fitzgerald.
BURY boss Graham Barrow is hoping to keep centre-back John Fitzgerald for the rest of the season.
The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international, who is on loan from Premiership Blackburn Rovers, has gone from strength to strength since arriving at the end of January.
And Barrow wants the no-nonsense defender to conintue to forge a formidable partnership with skipper Dave Challinor and Colin Woodthorpe at the heart of the Shakers back line.
Fitzgerald was initially staying at Gigg Lane for a month but extended his time with the Shakers for a further two weeks following injury and suspensions to Woodthorpe and Challinor respectively.
But Barrow, who likens the Dubliner to former Manchester United star Steve Bruce, is hoping a deal can be arranged to keep Fitzgerald at Gigg for the rest of the campaign.
"Fitzy has grown into the job the longer he has been with us," he said.
"It hasn't been an easy time for loan players to join us but he is a good character and was as delighted as any of our players at the win at the weekend.
"I'd love to be able to keep him longer and we'll have to see if that is possible.
"He is fighting for his footballing career at present and you can see that in his performances."
Just to add, they really rate Andy Keogh highly too and think he's too good for league 2 (he's with Scúnthorpe now).

John Fitzgerald speaks to Shakers World about his future and today's game with Bristol Rovers.
"I've got better and better as each game has gone on, it's just fitness. Since I have been playing week in and week out I've really enjoyed it. I'm due back at Blackburn now and the last thing I want to do is play for the reserves. The gaffer at Bury wants me for a whole longer and if it comes down to that I will have no problems with staying at Gigg Lane."
"I'm out of contract at the end of the season and I've spoken to Mark Hughes this week and I won't be staying with Rovers, so the next few weeks will be important to me."
"Today we pushed in the second half and I thought we deserved more, we've basically battered them for 90 minutes and we've conceded a sloppy goal and we got punished for it, it seems to happen to us every week. Hopefully we can stop conceding goals like that and push on with some good second half performances."
"Kelham told us at half time to go out and get a scrappy goal like we conceded, but we only seem to be able to hit outstanding strikes. It was a fantastic goal and I was delighted for Simon Whaley and the gaffer."
"We got a lot of crosses in but we didn't really threaten the goal enough, we never looked like we'd get on the end of them. We've got to look after ourselves; we can't keep looking over our shoulders. We have to look up and push up the table."
"I came off after I felt my Achilles go a little, and I have an Ireland U21 match in Israel in a few weeks, plus I want to be here for the Yeovil game next week. I didn't want to risk the ankle, I could have gone out for the second half and been out for a month."
Good to see him thinking of Ireland as soon as he gets injured. :)

The Arsenal website is wrong. Stokes started, Quincy didn't. Cregg came on for Stokes on the 68th minute, good to see him back. Simmonds came on for the last 10 minutes, I think he was also injured recently. O'Donnell came on after 65 minutes for Gilberto. Kelly didn't get off the bench.

Spurs lost 2-0 to Charlton Andy Reid seemed to do well in the highlights I saw, he put a couple of great crosses in, Keane missed one and should of scored Kanoute missed the other,Reid also had a free kick cleared off the line by J.Fortune after beating the keeper,he also had an amazing 30 yard volley disallowed for a foul by one of his teamates(It was like Roney's in the FA cup).It was intresting to see that Spurs played Reid on the right wing,Keane looked lively but missed a couple of chances.
McGeady was brilliant tonight for Celtic as they beat Inverness 2-0 he played left wing first half and right wing second half,he won Man of the Match.

Jonathon Douglas hit the post for Gillingham in his second game on loan for them, some comments from gillingham.rivals.net
The arrival of Douglas and McEveley have really given the side a boost - they look like Premiership players and are definitely better than we already have. If we can keep them for the rest of the season they will play a key part in keeping us up.
Douglas and McEveley once again impressed, and if we could extend the loans until the end of the season they will play a big part in hopefully keeping us up.

Stokes scored a peno for the Arsenal reserves on Friday. Cregg and O'Donnell also started.
With half time fast approaching Stokes staked a claim for a regular spot up front with a sublime turn and shot. With his back to goal he flicked the ball up, lifted it over his own head, span round his marker and sent a first time volley crashing against the upright.

Diarmuid O'Carroll scored another 2 goals for Celtic's U19's. He has scored a few lately.
O'Carroll - 9 - Great first goal, took his 2nd well too. Good feet for a big guy and good movement. 1st goal was the best I've seen in a while.
Old Firm victory for Under 19s
Gregor Kyle
Scottish Premier Under 19 League
Wednesday April 13 2005
Excelsior Stadium, Airdrie
CELTIC… 3
(Finnbogason 12, O’Carroll 23, 60)
RANGERS… 2
(McCormack 37, Crooks 89)
IT WAS A long time coming, but the first Old Firm game of the Under 19 season finally kicked off this afternoon and ended in a 3-2 victory for Celtic.
This game was played at finally the sixth time of asking as Rangers had forced a series of postponements, citing a long and unmanageable injury list on each occasion.
The postponements will mean a backlog of Old Firm fixtures at the tail end of the season and today both clubs fielded strong sides at the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie determined to gain an early advantage.
First half goals from Icelandic centre-forward, Kjartan Finnbogason and Irish strike partner Diarmuid O’Carroll saw Celtic take an early lead before Rangers clawed one back through Ross McCormack.
Looking back on this game Celtic will have much to thank goalkeeper Scott Fox for, as the young keeper pulled off a string of incredible saves before O’Carroll added to Celtic’s tally and Rangers then added a late second through Jason Coutts for a 3-2 final scoreline.
Fox has come into coach Willie McStay’s side following injury to the more experienced Sandy Wood. The youngster has had some assured performances between the sticks this season, but today must rank among his finest and he gave an early hint of what was to come, pulling off an outstanding save from McCormack in the 5th minute.
The chance for Rangers however came against run of play and Celtic had started this match brightly, forcing their opposition back into their own half and playing at a high tempo.
The response to this play had been a series of early fouls. First Brian Gilmour was warned for a foul on Simon Ferry that eventually forced the substitution of the young midfielder and then Alex McColl brought down Icelandic midfielder Teddy Bjarnason for a free kick at the edge of the area.
This free kick sailed wide of the target, but the next was to punish Rangers and put Celtic a goal ahead.
Midfielder Paul Emslie conceded the foul on Charlie Mulgrew in the 12th minute, picking up a booking and allowing Jim O’Brien to deliver an excellent ball into the middle of the six yard box. There it was met in the air by Finnbogason and Celtic were a goal to the good, with the big targetman grabbing his ninth goal in 10 games at this level.
The goal allowed Celtic to get into their rhythm and Ferry came close with a long range effort after Bjarnason won the ball well on the edge of the area and gave it to playmaker, Michael McGlinchey.
McGlinchey then showed grit to dispossess midfielder Steven Lennon and play it through to Finnbogason and Celtic were dominating at this stage, keeping possession and causing Rangers to lose their shape completely in the midfield.
It looked only a matter of time before Celtic added to the tally and when the goal did come it was courtesy of a spectacular finish from O’Carroll.
This was route one football at its finest, a long ball forward from another free kick, this time delivered by Mulgrew at the back and met in the air by O’Carroll.
The young Irishman took the ball on his chest, turned and sent a spectacular shot straight into the top corner from around 20 yards out.
But Willie McStay has often cursed his side’s tendency to give away cheap goals and Celtic would later thank Fox for defending their margin.
Rangers had shown signs that they were coming back into this game, first Bob Davidson sent a looping, speculative effort just over the bar from 35 yards out and then Gilmour actually hit the bar with a shot from the edge of the box.
Jordan McMillan then fired wide again from long range, but Celtic failed to heed the warnings and the defence was stranded as Ross McCormack tucked away what became a simple opportunity. Substitute Michael Gardyne was seconds on the park and perhaps caught cold in the driving wind and rain when he gave away the ball at the half way line to Davidson.
The striker threaded his pass through and gave McCormack a clear run on goal and Fox very little chance with the one-on-one.
Rangers then bombarded Celtic as the remaining eight minutes ticked away and Fox began to show some of the form that would light up the second half.
The clearest cut chance that Rangers failed to take came from a free kick into the box which found Steven Campbell unmarked five yards out. But the defender hammered it straight at the keeper and Fox touched over.
Then with three minutes to play Steven Lennon scooped his shot over the bar after Fox had spilled a Davidson effort and Rangers went in at the interval cursing the Celtic keeper and their poor finishing.
Perhaps this was what gave them the spirit to attack Celtic so vigorously straight after the restart. Gilmour tried is luck with a long range effort that was tipped away by Fox, Davidson saw an effort go wide, as did McMillan and then McCormack was denied by the young keeper, all within the first ten minutes of the restart.
Ten minutes had in fact elapsed before Celtic started to attack with any authority. Michael McGlinchey sparked the move, turning on the ball and feeding fit-again Ryan Conroy who took to the byline before sending a cross into the feet of Finnbogason.
There the big striker turned on the ball, squeezed between two defenders and sent in a low effort that was saved by Callum Reidford at his near post.
Rangers responded by breaking at pace, with Davidson setting up Derek Carcary, who was again denied by Fox.
This was an end to end, highly enjoyable game of football and although Celtic looked decidedly more nervy in the second half, they were the side who took full advantage of their chances and got their third goal in the 60th minute.
Finnbogason did well to hold up the ball forward and with his back to goal, turned on it and pushed it wide to Jim O’Brien. The winger then pushed his path through to O’Carroll who turned in the box, took a touch and sent it low beyond the keeper to put Celtic three ahead.
The goal signalled the start of the Scott Fox show proper as the young keeper denied the hard working pairing of McCormack and Davidson on numerous occasions.
A goal finally did arrive for Rangers however and Fox had little chance with this one as his defence took a snooze with just one minute of time to play.
The long ball forward was allowed to drop into the path of substitute Scott Agnew whose simple pass across goal found fellow sub Jason Crooks. Crooks had been allowed to run unchallenged into the six yard box and tapped in a simple finish at the back post.
This goal failed to set up a grandstand finish for Rangers as Celtic forced their rivals up the park and won a series of corners to slowly steal away the remaining minutes of injury time.
When the whistle did sound the player’s delight was very evident and this result will no doubt give McStay’s young team a psychological edge as they face a hard series of derby fixtures.

Ipswich beat spurs 2-1 in the FA youth cup semi final last night, winning 4-1 on aggregate.Ipswich had 5 Irish players on the pitch none of them scored last night but Owen Garvan set up one of the goals up.
Southampton won on penalties in the other semi against Wolves who had Stephen Gleeson sent off in extra time. The match finished 3-2 to Wolves after extra time (Southampton won 1-0 in the first leg)Leon Best scored in the 117 minute for Soton to take it to penalties.
The final between Ipswich and Soton will be live on Sky Sports,I think its this Monday with the first leg at Soton.

Just how significant is the Irish representation in the FA Youth Cup Final? I know most of the MUFC team in the 90s were part of their successful youth team. Wasn't Stewart Downing recently in the final too? Is there a trend of players progressing on to bigger things?

Only Irish player in recent years that I can think of off the top of my head is Stephen Foley Sheridan at Villa. Anyone know how he's getting on? his brother Michael was at Liverpool and got released last season, think he's at St Pat's now?

Of the Boro team that won it last season:
Anthony McMahon has gone on to be a first teamer and has started 16 games for Boro this season.
Matthew Bates has made a couple of sub appearances.
David Wheater came on as a sub against Sporting.
James Morrison has played 24 times for Boro this season.
Adam Johnson came on as a sub against Sporting.
and all but 1 or 2 of the starting 11 have been given first team squad numbers.
I think Giggs, Beckham, Scholes and Butt were winners of the cup too and went on to be Champions league winners in the same team.

When i saw Ipswich play Stoke in the FA youth cup Owen Garvan and Billy Clarke stood out espically Garvan,he is a class player. The goalkeeper Supple looked good when called upon.Synott didn't play and Lordan was not very good.

Owen Garvan is a son of Gerry Garvan who played LOI with distinction in the 1960s and 70s with Drums and Shels.
