The game was probably more exciting on teletext.
It was more like 20 yards, he placed it well but I thought Howard could have done better.

From Sky Sports' website:

Hull City look set to return to Premiership side Tottenham Hotspur to land another of their players in winger Mark Yeates.

The Tigers have already signed midfielder Dean Marney for an undisclosed fee from Spurs this summer and the East Yorkshire club look set add to add to their ranks with Dubliner Yeates.

The 21-year-old, who has just signed a new two-year contract with the North Londoners, has already had three loan spells during his time with Spurs.

Spells at Brighton & Hove Albion and Swindon Town were followed by a successful spell with Championship new boys Colchester United.

Yeates helped the Essex outfit to promotion from League One, as well as a successful FA Cup run that ended at Premiership champions Chelsea.

That loan spell impressed new Hull boss Phil Parkinson, who seems keen to add the youngster to his ranks at The Kingston Communications Stadium.

Alan Sheehan played the full 90 at l.b., and Conrad Logan played the 2nd half in leicesters 3-3- pre season draw with lincoln city, Logan managed a clean sheet in his 45, after Rab Douglas got the tug at h.t. having put in another pitifull display in the first half conceding 3 and giving away a pen.

neither Maybury or McCarthy featured as both are carrying slight knocks (knee and groin respectively), but the manager said it was precautionary.

Colin Cryan played for lincoln.

Liam Miller got a decent run out against Celtic.
Hard to tell about Miller because Celtic were absolutely woeful, he looked sharp and composed, his every touch was moronically and loudly booed.
In giving him a good run out it could be that Ferguson has a vengeful sense of humor or still hasn't received an acceptable offer for the lad.
I hope Miller gets settled playing regular for some club.

Shaleum Logan was born in Manchester, his profile lists him as English, but I've never heard of any Irish link. He's a left back and played in the FA Youth Cup Final last season against Liverpool.
Flood played well when he came on and had City's best chance of the second half by all accounts. Hopefully he can kick on from here and establish himself in the starting XI, with Musampa and Riera gone, there's a dearth of wingers and creativity at Eastlands, so he may yet get a chance.

Lee Croft has just been sold too.
The bid has been accepted, but Croft hasn't moved yet. At the moment I'd imagine Trevor Sinclair is the first choice right winger, but I'd say the left wing spot is up for grabs. It would have been Musampa or Riera last season. Sibierski can play there, and with the amount of strikers in the senior side, he might just but he's never impressed there.

I haven't seen any of the preseason games, so I can't comment if he's built himself up or not, but he was playing in defence in the previous 2 games, which suggests some amount of strength.

leicesters first choice keeper, Douglas is likely to miss the start of the season through injury, bringing Conrad Logan into the reckoning, according to manager Rob Kelly.

from the bluearmy site

DOUGLAS SETBACK HITS CITY

Manager Robert Kelly revealed last night that goalkeeper Rab Douglas is likely to miss the start of Leicester City's season because of the shoulder trouble he sustained in the build-up.

This thrusts Paul Henderson into the spotlight, although Kelly also hinted at setting a challenge for Conrad Logan.

Promising young keeper Logan was in the side for the final friendly at Hinckley United this afternoon.

Kelly said: "Rab will be struggling for the start of the season. He has had an injection into his shoulder. He has done a bit of work but it was still coming back.

"However, I thought Paul did well against Real Sociedad, making a couple of good saves, and Conrad is champing at the bit. So that is healthy, having a good young goalkeeper who is pushing the two senior ones for the spot.''

Kelly got what he wanted from last night's tough friendly against Real Sociedad.

The 0-0 draw added to City's undefeated record in the pre-season matches but the City boss did admit this was nothing like the games against Boston, Macclesfield and Lincoln which had gone before.

He said: "They were just what I expected, a team equal to one of our Premiership sides, and they made it difficult for us in the first half.

"But I thought we improved in the second.

"We kept a clean sheet and didn't lose, which is important, and, after the Hinckley game, we get right down to it, starting on Monday.

From BBC website:

Falkirk have completed the signing of former Livingston striker Graham Barrett on a two-year deal after he was released by Coventry City.
The 24-year-old had a successful trial with the Scottish Premier League club.

Barrett began his career with Arsenal, with the Premiership outfit farming him out to Bristol Rovers, Crewe Alexandra, Colchester United and Brighton.

He moved to Coventry in 2003 and had loan spells with Sheffield Wednesday and Livingston.

Barrett failed to score in seven appearances during his four months at Almondvale last season.

Kavanagh and Connolly played in Wigan's win over Barnsley, dont know what Kavanagh did but Connolly...

It took a moment of brilliance from David Connolly...who latched onto Denny Landzaat's crossfield ball, cut inside his marker and curled a delightful right foot shot over keeper Nick Colgan and into the back of the net.

Just noticed on Barnsleys web site that Colin Healy is to sign a one year deal.

I was in Barnsley on Monday and had an hour to spare and went along to their training ground. Healy came on for a practice game and I was impressed with him. He got space and made himself available for the ball, he made a few runs with the ball and was comfortable holding on to it. One thing I didnt see was any tackles by him - but its training and pre season.

I hope it works out for him

Yes, against WBA. It wasnt too bad a goal either (Ill post the video if you want). Wigan just signed Heskey to help out Camara, and those two have been starting the friendlies, while Connolly started one. Kavanagh has been playing almost every match.

Shane Long scored a 19-minute hat-trick as the Royals defeated Gallstads FK in the first friendly of their Swedish pre-season tour.

Long took his goals very well, and could even have had more, hitting the post and seeing one effort disallowed and another cleared off the line.

Seol Ki-Hyeon scored with a thunderbolt from outside the area, while Dave Kitson and Kevin Doyle were also on target.

Sam Sodje made his debut by playing the first half, and went close to scoring a couple of times. He has an impressive spring, and is an aggressive header of the ball in defence and attack.

Cameroonian triallist Andre Stephane Bikey took Sodje's place for the second period, and put in an assured display, looking comfortable on the ball and strong in the tackle.

Bobby Convey and Marcus Hahnemann enjoyed a good return as they played their first friendlies of the summer. Hahnemann played 90 minutes, while Chris Makin was the only outfield player to get a full game under his belt.

Graeme Murty, Glen Little and James Harper all missed the game through injury, but thankfully there were no new knocks to report after the match.

Reading: Hahnemann, Makin, Hunt (Golbourne 59), Ingimarsson (c) (Sonko HT), Sodje (Bikey HT), Halls (Gunnarsson 60), Sidwell (Cox 60), Oster (Seol 62), Convey (Shorey 59), Doyle (Long 62), Kitson (Lita HT)
Sub: Stack

Full report
The game was preceded by the classic Elm Park song The Royals Anthem, which Gallstads officials had downloaded from the official site here.

The Royals did not seem to be inspired by Kevin Girdler's ditty though, and they started the match slowly. Dave Kitson's mistimed volley on 10 minutes was indicative of how the team settled into the game early on.

That rustiness was quickly worked out of the system though, and Kevin Doyle had a low shot that was well parried just after the quarter of an hour mark.

With 17 minutes gone, the two strikers combined to open the scoring. Doyle's pace saw him race down the left wing, and he crossed low for Kitson to finish tidily with his left foot from eight yards.

Five minutes later it was 2-0. Steve Sidwell's throughball released Doyle, and the Irishman's pace again put him clear of the defence, before he finished well from a tightening angle.

Reading were now playing well, and good work from Bobby Convey released John Oster inside the area. He took a touch around the keeper, and from a tight angle hit the inside of the post, before seeing the ball rebound quickly over the head of the onrushing Doyle.

Debutant Sam Sodje could and perhaps should have had a goal just after 30 minutes. The ball was well worked by Sidwell and Oster, and with the keeper stranded Sodje could not keep his header down from 10 yards with the goal gaping.

The centre back went close again on 37 minutes, throwing himself powerfully at a Convey free kick, only to see it well saved.

With half time approaching, Coppell's team looked to add a third goal. Doyle saw another shot well saved by the impressive home keeper, and Kitson then had a goal disallowed harshly for a push on a defender.

Sidwell nearly had an excellent goal but volleyed over on the turn, and then seconds before the break Sodje dummied expertly to put Kitson in acres of space, but again the keeper did well and smothered the chance.

Gallstads had some guest players from higher division teams, and the goalkeeper is a Swedish under 20 international who certainly caught the eye.

Coppell made three changes at half time, bringing off both centre halves and also giving Kitson a rest, with the striker playing his first game in a number of weeks.

The home keeper again made a couple of saves early in the secong half, first from Convey's 20-yarder, then at the feet of Doyle after Leroy Lita's throughball.

Nicky Shorey's corner was stabbed in the area by Ibrahima Sonko, and triallist Andre Bikey couldn't quite control his shot on the turn.

Another Shorey corner then gave Lita a golden chance he would normally snap up, The set piece was hit goalwards by Simon Cox, and it deflected to Lita but he shot over from six yards.

Midway through the period Shane Long had his first and Reading's third. The impressive Seol Ki-Hyeon did well on the right, and his low cross found Shorey at the back post. He calmly passed to Long ten yards out, and he finished with power and accuracy.

Seol then flew past his man again on the right, and Long clipped it goalwards, only to see it hit the upright.

WIth 75 minutes gone the Royals scored again. Shorey's corner came to Long in the area, and he smacked home first time on the volley.

The young Irisman was now in full flow, and he went very close to adding another, seeing the ball cleared away at the last minute after Lita's pass allowed him to go around the keeper.

Bikey played an excellent crossfield ball on 82 minutes, and Chris Makin laid off neatly to Seol. The Korean touched past his man, and leathered home a left-footed thunderbolt from 25 yards, giving the keeper no chance at all.

Midfielder Cox then stabbed just wide from the edge of the box, and Long had a goal disallowed for a push while heading home.

Long was not to be denied a hat-trick though, and his third was an absolute thunderbolt, leathering home a bouncing ball from 12 yards, with the keeper barely able to see the ball, let alone keep it out.

All in all it was a good positive workout for Steve Coppell's side, with some excellent goals, the return of a number of players and no new injuries to report.

Video highlights from all our games in Sweden will be available on Reading World when the squad return from the trip on Thursday.

luton v leicseter 2-0

McCarthy and Maybury played for leicester and Logan made the bench.Foley played r.b. for luton.

McCarthy played ok, certianly not the worst offender in a pi$$poor leicester performance, he had a couple of headers from set plays, one of which grazed the bar, he also made a tasty challenge or two in vital areas.however, he picked up the obligatory booking and his 90 also included a couple of errors, thankfully they went unpunished.

Mayburys 90 gave no inclination of what the manager thinks he will contribute in a midfield role, cant seeing recall much of him, booking apart. in fairness had to spend the greater part of his day covering for his r.b. who was defining the term, nightmare, behind him.

Foley wasnt overly tested in this game as leicester offered no sustained threat down his flank.

leicester v burnley 0-1

Maybury again on the right side of midfield, ineffictive, is the polite term, i believe;) got the tug on the hour.

McCarthy, the man of the moment, had a decent game but not as commanding as you would look for from a captaining c.b., but the confidence of this whole team is shot at present, he is not alone in this. he did however avoid a booking at least, and did well in the air generally but the distribution was a bit hopefull at times. Again as Staunton has touched upon in his reasons for omitting McCarthy, he went to ground a few times when he might have stood up. one instance in particular struck me, when a burnley player managed to chase down, and keep in play a wayward ball near the by-line just inside the leicester penalty area, it was there to win and Paddy slid in but the burnley player got to it first and nicked it away, and Paddy hit him late, lucliky the player stayed on his feet and tried to cross and it came to nothing, but a sneakier/cleverer/international player would almost certainly have hit the deck for a pen.

Logan again was on the bench for leicester.

and for burnley, best of the irish was Mahon, taking all their setpieces and in the process seting up their goal, always involved with really good use of posession.McCann also had a good game, good passer. and James O'Connor made a late appearence. Gareth O'connor was on the bench.

He's a central midfielder.

Chris, who was added to the first team squad in the summer of 2005, was the unanimous choice as Young Player of the Year following a stunning debut season.

The midfielder had been an integral part of the youth team squad that reached the final of the Youth Alliance Cup and also impressed in his outings for the reserve team while still a first year apprentice.

Manager Steve Cotterill catapulted the Dubliner into his squad for the 2005/06 pre-season matches and after fitting in well with the senior players and proving his ability on tour in Austria, he was given a squad number.

The teenager made such an impression in the first half of the campaign that he was awarded a professional contract in December 2005, which runs to the summer of 2009.

He finished the season as a mainstay in central midfield before joining the Republic of Ireland U19 squad in their European Championships Elite Round in Slovakia.

leicester v ipswich 3-1

leicester managed their first win and goals of the new season in front of the smallest ever crowd for a league game since the move to the new stadium. the only Irish player for leicester being McCarthy, although Logan was again on the bench, with Maybury not making the 16 at all, further fuelling the rumour he is on his way out of the club. dissappointingly, despite more chopping and changing to the problem left-back position, Sheehan didnt make the 16 either.

but on the upside, a much improved 90 from McCarthy this time out, he and his defensive partner were on top throughout, with both ipswich strikers being hauled off by the hour mark.he got on with the game and never looked like coming to the refs attention, thats 2 full games booking free now. he played when it was on and put it in the stand when it wasnt and also had a header loop onto the roof of the net at the other end from a corner.not at fault in any way for the ipswich goal.

for ipswich, Supple,Bruce and Lee started with Clarke also getting half an hour.
Supple, despite being beaten 3 times, was not individually at fault for any of them and back on the scene of his league debut, again played quite well, catching securely and punching well when necessary.he kicked reasonably well. he had a couple of hairy one-on-ones where on the first one he was rounded by the player and required his covering defender to put in a truly superb challenge to prevent a goal, the other time he got to the pitch of the ball but was still disposessed by the leicester player when he might have been expected to hold it, equally you could argue, he had it, and the challenge was illegal, but the ref played on.

Bruce started the game holding the midfield, and ended it in the middle of 3 at the back as his side chased it,he looked more comfortable at the back but didnt do anything spectecularly good or bad in either slot. while in the middle he was disposessed twice in the first half as he dwelt on it and left the leicester midfielder bearing down on his centre-halves, with the 2 leicester strikers on their shoulders, thats a habit he will need to get out of if he's thinking of playing in the middle. luckily for him, neither occasion lead to a score.

Lee was very poor, he won one free kick on the edge of the area, that apart i dont recall him influencing the game at all, he flicked a couple of headers on but with no direction, he was beaten in the air on more than one occasion by smaller leicester players, and not once do i recall him doing anything of worth on the deck, even the basics of making it stick and bringing his midfield into the game, hopefully just an off day for him, as if produced this in a green shirt, id be serioulsy embarrased. he was replaced on the hour by Billy Clarke who, by then, had the thankless task of performing a miracle with the service very poor from his side, but he did well, he was lively and had a nice touch or two, he even won some usefull headers which at least got his opponents turned. he also had two nicely-bent runs flagged offside which would have seen him in one-on-one and judging by the fury of the ipswich fans away over on that side, he was unlucky to be flagged.

Paul Skinner started in goal, Paul Cahillane up front and Graham Carey on the wing for Celtic U19s today. Celtic won 1-0 with Carey scoring the only goal. All 3 players are 16 or 17 but most of last seasons U19s are going to be playing in the reserves and pushing for the first team.

Cahillane scored one as Celtic U17s beat AC Milan 3-0 in a tournament in Villarreal today. They lost the previous games against Villarreal and Espanyol.

Karl Moore was an unused sub as Man City's reserve side overcame Wrexham's reserves 2-0. This game was used to get some of the senior side (Weaver, Onuoha, Sibierski) match practise before the season kicks off against Chelsea at the weekend so I would expect to see Moore back in the starting XI in the next game. Garry Breen was not in the side at all.
Very short review on Man City's site (which is odd) but a full review, with line ups on Wrexham's site.
