How did Garvan do? Couldn't have been at his best if he was subbed at 3-0 down.
Willo Flood and Micky Doyle (you'd never guess they were Irish ;) ) should both start for Coventry against Soton tonight on SS1.

Flood did quite well from what I saw (second half only). He covers a huge amount of ground and is very tenacious. He certainly doesn't shirk his defensive responsibilities. He had one clear opportunity to create a goal but having beaten his marker for pace he put the ball across the goal but in between 2 forwards. He probably should have done better. Except for one very tired, careless pass to nobody, his passing was very accurate & he looked comfortable in possession.
The crowd got excited when he got the ball and he got good applause when he went off late in the game.
Doyle was less noticable. Did the simple things well & looks to have a very strong left foot.

McGeady got 1 minute for a green & white hooped Scottish team at the weekend and Darren O'Dea was on the bench. I don't care what people say about Scottish football, it's really good that a teenage Irish defender is getting close to the first team at a good club.
(OK, I know this thread is "...Irish Players in England") but I thought it was worth a mention.

More from McGeady in his diary here - http://www.icons.com/mcgeady/diary.html?26.8.05 - basically he's disappointed at being dropped and working hard in the gym to build himself up so he doesn't get pushed over as easily

leicester v luton 0-2
McCarthy,Maybury and Connolly all played the 90. neither Logan or Sheehan featured.
this was a stinking game and the entire 11 under performed,Maybury played at leftback.Connolly didnt have any real oppertnities and McCarthy had done no worse than the rest till injury time when he under hit a back pass with a pacy striker on his shoulder and gave the guy a one on one with the keeper, the keeper got a glove on the ball as the player tried to round him and managed to get the striker turned away from goal but Paddy came in with a lunge, brought the guy down 4 a pen which made it 2-0.
this came in deep injury-time so didnt really matter to the result and he wasnt booked.
leicester v hull 1-1
Maybury,McCarthy and Connolly all played the 90. niether Sheehan or Logan made the 16.
Maybury played at leftback and was solid.he was captain in Tiattos abscence.
Connolly was busy and hit the post late on.
McCarthy got a right chasing in the first half as hull hit the post 3 times, but had a much improved 2nd and scored the equaliser from a back post header, his first league goal.he also hit the post with a header before that.he also managed to avoid a booking for the second game running.

interview with Paddy McCarthy about hull game and his first league goal.
Paddy McCarthy was delighted to score his first senior goal to secure Leicester City a hard-earned point at Hull. The defender stole in unmarked at the far post to meet a Richard Stearman cross and bring City level at 1-1.
It set up City for a period of late pressure that could have seen them come away from their first visit to the KC Stadium with all three points.
But McCarthy was happy to notch his first goal and save a point after City endured a difficult first half in which Hull hit the woodwork four times.
"Richard Stearman put a great ball in," said the Irishman. " It was right on the money. There was no way I was going to miss it. It's my first League goal and I am very happy with it."
He added: "I think we were happy with a point in the end. Before the game we would have wanted to win it.
"We feel we have enough quality to win games but overall I think a draw was a fair result."
The 22-year-old said the goal was almost a personal redemption after being sent off on his senior debut against Hull in November 2002.
McCarthy was dismissed while on loan at Boston from Manchester City during Hull's last win at Boothferry Park.
He was also pleased that he did not enter the referee's notebook after already picking up three bookings so far this season.
"Personally, it's nice to put things right with the goal," he said. "I got sent off in my first league game in Hull so it's nice to come back and put it right.
"I also didn't get booked. The gaffer had a word about it so that was pleasing."
McCarthy now joins the Rep-ublic of Ireland Under-21s for a game against France.
But his mind is already on City's next game against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, September 10.
He said: "I can't wait for that game. We are looking forward to putting things right."

Cregg scored for Arsenal, Matthew Connolly, recently capped Irish U19 international, partnered some guy called Sol Campbell at centre-back, Kelly & Stokes stayed on the bench. Stephen Ireland scored for Man City reserves in a 3-2 win over their Wigan counterparts. Diarmuid O'Carroll scored the winner as Celtic beat Arbroath in a friendly -
Arbroath 0, Celtic 1
GAYFIELD’S BIGGEST crowd of the season so far were treated to an
entertaining and eventful friendly last night as the home side were unlucky to lose out by a single goal in a match where they gave as good as they got.
A mainly young Celtic side—bolstered by big-name players of the calibre of
Didier Agathe, Stephen Pearson, Ross Wallace and summer signing Adam Virgo—had to work hard to overcome a dogged and, at times, almost inspired Arbroath, to claim victory.
The Lichties had new signings Ian Dobbins and Pat Clarke on from the start
and Mark Peat came on to replace keeper Mark Cairns on the hour mark.
Frenchman Agathe’s flair, pace and accuracy were a constant threat to the
home defence, who breathed a sigh of relief when he was replaced at half time.
Taking charge of the visitors last night was Hoops legend, and former
Arbroath boss, Danny McGrain, who received a warm welcome back to Gayfield.
Arbroath seemed the more determined with Clarke and Davidson both testing Michael McGovern while, at the other end, a rasping Ryan Conroy free kick from all of 35 yards grazed Cairns’ crossbar.
On 26 minutes, McGovern suffered a nasty, but completely accidental, knock to his face as he dived to deny Jay Stein a scoring opportunity, and he was replaced by Sandy Wood.
Celtic took the lead on 74 minutes when Nicholas Riley slipped the ball
through for O’Connell to beat Peat from close range, after he had launched
himself on a fine solo run.
Arbroath had chances to level the score and, to their credit, never gave up
against their full-time SPL opponents, but the equaliser was not to be
forthcoming.
Attendance—871.
Arbroath—Cairns (Peat 60), McMullen (Reilly 84), Watson, Bishop (McCormack
45), Dobbins, Black (Smith 66), Millar (Cook 79), Davidson, Brazil, Clarke,
Stein (Warren 78). Sub not used—Rennie.
Celtic—McGovern (Wood 26), Virgo, O'Dea, Quinn, Cuthbert, Pearson (Riley
45), Agathe (McPartland 45), Gardyne (Harris 80), O'Carroll (McGlinchy 80),
Conroy (Mulgrew 60), Wallace.
Referee—Willie Hornby.

A regular? He's captaining them at the moment. :) Don't think he's playing too well this season but hopefully its only a blip or the Wednesday fans are expecting him to be doing more than he's asked by the manager.

I really like the Kerrs Men in Britain section of the Irish Times every Monday. However there are a number of Irish players who have played League games missing. I've mailed them about it, but they still haven't included the missing Irishmen. Among the list are Kevin Doyle and Paul McShane The address I mailed was sports@irish-times.ie. Anyone else care to mail them to have the following added on to their list.
English Football League Championship
Paul McShane - Brighton (on Loan from Man Utd)
Chris McCann - Burnley
Karl Bermingham - Burnley (On loan from Man City)
Alan Sheehan - Leicester
Kevin Doyle -Reading
Barry Corr - Sheffield Wednesday
Leon Best - Sheffield Wednesday (On loan From Southampton)
Football League One.
Steven Foley - Bournemouth (on Loan from Villa)
James O'Connor - Bournemouth
Jay Tabb - Brentford
Richard Keogh - Bristol City
Michael Collins- Huddersfield
Anthony Gerrard - Walsall (Is he still declaring for Ireland?)
Football League Two
John Fitzgerald -Bury
Colin Cryan - Lincoln
Stephen Dawson- Mansfield
Scottish Premiership
Graham Barrett - Livingston
1st Division
Billy Mehmet, David van Zanten -St Mirren
Are there any more ommissions that have been missed?

wasnt at this one but the reports on Sheehans home debut are generally positive.Levein says he did well and feels theres more to come from him.he was also coming across to take the corners.a clean sheet as well, which has been a rarity for leicester this season, probably not such good news for McMarthy though who was dropped for Dion Dublin and a couple of the reports remark on how much more solid the central defense looked on sat. McCarthy has been playing through an ankle problem but was on the bench.

cardiff v leicester 1-0
Maybury played the 90 and had a late equaliser chalked off for a narrow controversial offside.
McCarthy came off the bench with 25 to go as leicester wanted to move Dublin upfront.he did fine when he came on.
Sheehan was dropped despite a sound home debut on sat when the defence managed a rare clean sheet,
leicester, again, conceded the winner from a set piece early on in the game so recent chopping and changing of the defence, which has cost McCarthy and now Sheehan their places hasnt eradicated the problems.

Surely Ireland will be in the squad for City's next match.
He's on the bench this afternoon against Bolton at the City of Manchester stadium. I expect him to be the same for the midweek League Cup game with Doncaster
<EDIT>
Saw the highlights on Sky Sports last night, Ireland came on late on for Joey Barton (who had a fantastic game), and should have scored with his first touch, a volley from near the penalty spot. He looked a little lost at first, but once he got on the ball, he looked good. From what I saw last night, and from what I've been reading around, he's more of a Scholes-type attacking central midfielder, than a ball winning Keane/Gerrard/Lampard style player. Here's hoping he continues to develop.

leicester went 4-5-1 here and set out not to lose.
Maybury played the 90 at right back and was solid in a busy afternoon for the defence.
McCarthy earned a recall to the side as the usual centre-half,johannson, moved to the problem left-back position for this game,by all accounts he did well on his return and played next to Dion Dublin in the middle,he did pick up another booking though, his fourth of the campaign.
neither Sheehan or Logan made the 16.

heres a recent interview with Craig Levein about the leicester defence this season,in it he speaks specifically about McCarthy.
When will Leicester City finally cure that set-just piece problem that has stalled their opening to the season?
That is a question that Craig Levein thought he had answered until it leapt up to bite him again at Cardiff on Tuesday night, just when City hoped to build on their clean-sheet victory against Sheffield Wednesday the previous Saturday.
The solution might have to wait a bit as Levein has hinted strongly it could lie in Swedish stopper Patrik Gerrbrand, who was developing his full fitness when he was carried off on his debut at Bury in the Carling Cup last month.
The City boss revealed that, if Gerrbrand had been fit, he would have played in the last two games in which Dion Dublin was drafted again into the back four as he felt Paddy McCarthy needed a rest.
Not that the promising Irishman is being discarded, far from it as City feel his potential is beyond question, and Levein explained: "You have to remember that he came to us having hardly played a first-team game at Manchester City and has now featured in about 20-odd games for us, which is quite a big ask for a young lad. I felt he just needed a break.
"There were one or two things in his game that dropped below his standard and I thought it was important to give him a rest. Maybe a few games out will see Paddy's enthusiasm back, along with the realisation that he can be dropped. But he will come back at some point.

Sheehan and McCarthy played the 90 and Maybury had a slight knock but was on the bench.Logan also made the bench.
it was the first time in this managers reign, and as far as i know, ever, that Logan has made the bench.previously 5 outfield players had made up the numbers ahead of him when the first choice keeper didnt play.no pionts at stake but still a bit of progress for him.good to see.
McCarthy was generally solid, avoided getting booked and saw the game out fairly comfortably.he did give away a couple of free kicks when challenging in the air for having his elbows on the shoulders of the attacker.
Sheehan played his second 90 of the season and did well,he blasted a free kick through the wall on 15 which the keeper spilled and on 20 it was his upfield pass to DeVries which brought about the opening goal for leicester as the keeper came and failed to hold it and got chipped.he showed for it all through the game and was comfortable in posession.
the blackpool goal was an individual error from Johannson so no fault of McCarthy or Sheehans.
