There's a new addition to the Chelsea list on the first page and he could have asked for no better mentor(s). :)

And just to confirm what I said above:
Manager, Sean McCaffrey, has included Alan Sheehan (Leicester City), James Simmonds (Chelsea), Billy Clarke (Ipswich Town), Diarmuid O’Carroll (Celtic) and David Elebert (Preston), none of the five featured in the UEFA Championships First Qualifying Phase in Cyprus in October last.
http://www.soccercentral.ie/viewstory.asp?mainheading=Republic%20of%20Ireland&id=14454&viewstory=yes
Simmonds has played for England at underage level a good few times but chose Ireland in the end. Maybe Duffer persuaded him. He's only 17 and a regular in the Chelsea reserves.
Leon Best isn't in the squad so it looks like he chose England. If thats the case hopefully its a good swap deal and Simmonds runs riot.

NEWS ON IRISH PLAYERS IN FA CUP ROUND 3
Robbie Keane scored a decent goal today.
Mahon's goal was a real gem by all accounts - Kav had a great shot from very far out, just clipped over the bar apparently.
Maybury played about 30 mins for Leicester (came on as a sub), Connolly played the whole match but didnt score - as did Morrison (for B'ham v Leeds).
Think Zat Knight scored for Fulham at Watford... but I dont see him playing for us anyway.
Other players who played full 90
Kennedy (Wolves v Millwall)
Stack (above)
Garry "remember me?" Kelly (B'ham v Leeds)
Delap (N'hampton v S'hampton)
Neil Kilkenny (for Oldham v Man City) - think he's Irish, on loan from Villa or B'ham ?
Gallen (for QPR v Forest)
The Doc™ (for Norwich at West Ham - in def for 80 mins then they chucked him up front apparently)
Miller played 63 mins for Man Utd (then subbed off)
Flood came on for c.20 mins
Duffer was rested in the Chelsea v Scúnthorpe.
Zinadine Kilbane will play for Everton @ Plymouth this evening (its on TV I think). Anyone know if Plymouth have any Irish players ?
Also for those interested Levante V Valencia is on Sky tonight - could be worth watching to see how/if Harte improved as he'll face pretty good strikers (Di Viao, Corradi maybe Aimar).

Tony McKeever - DC - 26.7.1988 (16)

Not one of ours. Despite being chosen to play for various under-age squads, he's decided to take the Queen's Shilling instead. Hopefully he'll just disappear into obscurity now... ;)

Morrison set up all 3 of Birmingham's goals. When I set up, he really did play a big part with fantastic passes for all 3.

Stephen Ireland, Paddy McCarthy and Karl Bermingham all played in Man City reserves' 2-1 win against Birmingham last night. McCarthy set up Bermingham for the first goal (think that's his 4th at this level), Bermingham set up the second goal and Ireland was substituted late on.

Anthony Stokes started on the bench for Arsenal's reserves on Monday as he got a knock the day before and wasn't 100%. He came off the bench on 65 minutes at 2-2, scored on the 85th with a header and set up another with a quick free kick. From reading the report (http://www.arsenal.com/article.asp?article=248863) it sounds like he wins his fair share of headers. Can't wait until he comes on. Its incredible to think that he's almost 8 years younger than Liam Miller. He now has 5 goals for Arsenal's reserves and is their second highest scorer in just 8 starts. He's not doing as well for the U-18s though with just 3 goals in 12 starts. Nobody has more appearances than him in the Arsenal reserves+U18's this season. Also, nobody has more appearances than O'Donnell in the reserves and Cregg has the 3rd most appearances. Its like the Arsenal of the late 80's, early 90's in the reserves. ;) Stephen O'Donnell also started but didn't get a mention.
Also, a little late but Alan Dunne and Stephen Quigley both scored 2 in Millwall's last reserve game.

Was at Luton - Tranmere on Sat. Foley had a very good game for them, their fans said he'd been playing well for them over the past few seasons and its likely he (and they) will be in the Championship Next year, hes about 20 and plays at right back so hopefully he'll develop as a decent player. Keith Keane (Mid. 17 yrs old) also played was reasonable.
Think the only other Irish player they have is Steven O'Leary (Midfielder, 19).

Man City reserves thumped their United counterparts in the Manchester senior cup 5-1, with Karl Bermingham getting 4! Could have been all 5, it was an own goal from a deflected shot by Bermingham. Paddy McCarthy had a header saved, Willo Flood played after coming back from a slight groin injury.

Diarmuid O'Carroll, the fella who scored one of the goals against Italy U-19's, scored 2 goals for Celtic yesterday. They won 4-1:
O’Carroll gave the first indication of his growing threat when he turned well and jinked past the challenged of three Pars defenders to set up Quinn for a shot that, by his own high standards, was tame.
...
And, sure enough, with 26 minutes played, O’Carroll began the goal rush, rising to meet an inviting cross from Irvine and directing the ball past the wrong-footed Langfield via a wicked deflection off Steven Vinter.
There was, in fact a degree of dubiety about whether the goal should have been credited to the young Irishman or the hapless Vinter but, if there was an element of good fortune about O’Carroll’s first goal, there was nothing remotely lucky about his second.
The pass from David Fernandez to lay it on was worthy of admiration in itself, but even more impressive was the former Home Farm striker’s pace and strength in racing on to it and holding off his marker before unleashing a left-foot rocket that soared into the postage stamp corner from 20 yards.
...
Any hopes of an unlikely comeback were extinguished within seconds, however, when, following a wonderful move involving O’Carroll, McParland and Wallace, Quinn lashed an unstoppable volley into the roof of the net from just outside the box.
That the second period paled in comparison to the half which had preceded it was no great surprise, given the quality of football that Celtic had produced, but there were was an enduring freedom in the Hoops play, typified by a scissors kick from O’Carroll and an audacious chip from inside his own half by Fernandez which had the Pars keeper scampering back to clutch it out of the air.
...
O’Carroll should certainly have had a hat-trick on 65 minutes, but he just couldn’t find a way past Langfield after racing on to another superb defence-splitting pass from McParland.
Anthony Stokes seems to be playing in midfield for Arsenal's reserves these days.
Jonathon Douglas scored the winner as Blackburn beat Villa 2-1.
Richie Partridge made his first appearance since his injury 6 weeks ago. James O'Connor also played in that match, WBA won 3-1.
David Cassidy from Ringsend (most people from Ringsend should no him) scored for Derby's reserves against Norwich.
Barry Corr scored and hit the crossbar as Leeds beat Bolton 2-1 last week. Keegan and Morris also played for Leeds.
Barry Roche saved Forest from a pasting against Man U with what their website describes as "heroics".

Birmingham has join Lincoln on a months loan.
"Karl is a young lad who is highly regarded at Manchester City,” he said. “Having spoken to Kevin Keegan and Derek Fazackerley and having watched him in their reserves, I think he’s a player who will come in and do a job for us. He’s got a decent goalscoring record and will give us that presence we haven’t had."

Paddy McCarthy and Willo Flood played in Man City reserves' draw with Middlesbrough reserves. McCarthy was at fault for the goal, and Flood had a shot on target. BTW - It has been mentioned on here before but the Arsenal scouts much like Irish names. Also in the starting lineup were Sean Clohessy, Matthew Connolly and Mitchell Murphy. :) Murphy plays for the English underage teams but i don't know where the other two are from.

Flood on the bench for Man City tonight at Norwich (wasnt brought on). The Doc and Dunne were not in either squad.
Obviously Duffer and Finnan played full game (+ Extra Time) in the Carling Cup final. Though both played well, esp Duff given the number of hours he'd played over the previous week, and all effectivly away games (ie significant travel). Given and Carr played for Newcastle at home to Bolton (2-1), O'Brien not in squad.
Matty Holland scored (good goal, looked like it may have been deflected tho) and seemed to play well in general for the 90 mins at M'Boro (2-2).
Delap played full 90 for Southampton vs Arsenal (1-1). As did Kilbane (in Everton's 3-1 victory at Villa), Stephen Kelly and Andy Reid (for Spurs v Fulham 2-1), Robbie came on on 60 mins and scored. O'Shea played full 90 for Man Utd vs Portsmouth, Roy Keane was rested, Liam Miller was not in the squad.
Clinton played for B'ham at Palace, had a bad game, crowd was on his back (ex-Palace player) and taken off around 60th min.
To add to what others have said from the lower leagues:-
- Michael Doyle (21y/o, MID) played for Cov., but Barrett didnt.
- Alan Mahon (still only 25) didnt play for Wigan and they lost
- Rowlands played (full 90) for QPR in a good away win (2-0) at Ipswich
- Gallen (supposedly qualifies for us) also played in the above (didnt score)
- C. Doyle (the GK on loan from B'ham) on the bench for Forest vs Derby
- Coughlan had a good game for Plymouth (3-0 home to Crewe)
- Kitson played for Reading in the 0-0 at home to Leicester (scored but dissallowed).
- David Connolly played in the above 0-0
- Alan Quinn played full 90 for Sheff Utd in 1-0 win home to Rotherham (was lively according to soccernet).
- Gary Breen scored again for Sunderland (2-1 v Cardiff), Elliott played almost the whole game, no Sean Thornton tho.
- In same game Kav played the full 90, Alan Lee came on (58 min) but sadly was given a Red Card (90th min, elbow)
- Breen's goal happened as Kav and Wheston (both Cardiff players) ran into each other given Gary an absolute sitter, but that aside Kav had a good game by all accounts.
- Mark Kennedy played the last 15 or so mins of Wolves 0-0 at home to Watford.
- McPhail played full 90, had a good game and scored for Barnsley vs Torquay (4-1)
- Gareth O'Connor (26) played for Bournemouth vs Tranmere, as did James O'Connor (21 on loan from Villa) match was pretty dire to be honest.
- Players from Brentford - Sheff Wed have been outlined in a previous post.
- Joe Murphy played in Walsall's 1-1 at home to Bradford.
Sifting thru the info we seem to have a lot of young players taking free kicks for teams in "The Championship" (eg Alan Quinn, Marty Rowlands, Alan Mahon - usually).
Also Sunderland are on TV (vs Burnley) this friday so hopefully that will give us a chance to see Breen, Thornton and Elliott.
Does anyone know if Aiden Palmer of Leyton Orient is qualified for us?

Darren Gibson was singled out for special praise for Man Utd's acadamy against Man City on Sunday.
Gibson shines, but City hold Reds to 1-1 draw (http://www.manutd.com/news/fullstory.sps?iNewsid=155013&itype=466&icategoryid=625)
FA Academy Premier League
Manchester City 1
Manchester United 1
Platt Lane, Moss Side
Manchester United's attempt to claim top spot in Group C of the Academy Premier League was again hampered with a second successive 1-1 draw, this time to their city neighbours.
The Reds were held to a 1-1 stalemate by Wolves last weekend and suffered the same fate in Moss Side on Saturday.
Francisco Filho's young charges are involved in a three-way battle in Group C - the North West regional division - with City and Blackburn Rovers.
United made the perfect start to this mini derby when the impressive Darron Gibson's long ball sent Fraizer Campbell bearing down on goal. The Reds' top goalscorer smashed his volley past Kasper Schmeichel to put United in front.
Campbell went close moments later with a glancing header, while Gibson could have doubled United's lead with a rasping long-range effort that fizzed just past the Schmeichel's left post.
The second half saw City put pressure on the Reds, the home side twice hit the woodwork.
But United could have put the game out of reach when substitute Phil Marsh found Campbell in the City penalty area. But the Huddersfield-born striker was heavy with his touch, and his close-range effort looped harmlessly over.
Disaster struck just as United were nearing a valuable 1-0 away victory; Reds keeper Lee Crockett losing out on a 50-50 race for the ball for City to snatch a point.
United's players were disappointed to let their lead slip so close to full-time, especially considering the standard of football produced during the opening 45 minutes from the Reds.
"We battled well in the first half, but let ourselves down a bit in the second half," United goalscorer Fraizer Campbell told MUTV. "They're always competitive matches."
"It was very tough because they're a physical side," added United defender Danny Simpson. "We're disappointed that we conceded the goal. We played very good football in the first half. After half time City started playing long ball because they had some big lads up front. And eventually they got the goal through doing that."
Simpson picked out midfield team-mate Darron Gibson for praise. The Derry-born player has been in fine form at Academy level.
"Darron's been in good form for us, not just recently but all season," he said. "It was a great pass for our goal and Fraizer did well to finish it off."
Blackburn beat Liverpool 1-0 on Saturday to move a point clear at the top of the league.
He seems to be doing well for the U18's. Here's a piece from the Liverpool game earlier in month:
...while Darron Gibson orchestrated the team's attacking moves in the middle of the park.
Gibson engineered two of United's best chances in the first half, one of which led to Campbell's goal.
The Derry-born midfielder possesses a powerful shot and after 20 minutes saw his low 25-yard strike rebound off the post.
Liam Miller will play for the United reserves tonight. Partridge and Potter will be in opposing team.

Paddy McCarthy and Stephen Ireland played for Man City's reserves in the 3-3 draw with West Brom's reserves.
Ireland set up the first goal and won the penalty to make it 2-0.
However West Brom pulled it back to 2-1, then Ishmael Miller (still nothing about an Irish connection) made it 3-1 before 2 goals in the second half left it at 3-3.
Willo Flood was on the bench against Norwich on monday and probably will be again against Bolton on this coming monday.

Robbie Keane played (full 90) and scored for Spurs in their 3-0 Cup win at Forest. Kelly also played the full 90, Doyle was on the bench for Forest. Andy Reid was cup tied I assume.
That sets up a good game (in terms of watching players for our national team) in a few weeks. Spurs - Newcastle, hopefully Keane, Given, Kelly, Carr and O'Brien will all play.

What is it with Ian Richardson and Irish keepers?
Elliot impresses (http://http://www.charlton-athletic.co.uk/newsview.ink?nid=21797&newstype=p)
The loan of goalkeeper Robert Elliot at Notts County has been extended for a further month - with Magpies manager Ian Richardson predicting the Addicks stopper has a bright future in the game.
Elliot has appeared as an unused substitute for the League Two side in every fixture since he joined County on a temporary basis at the end of January.
But the 18-year-old has seen some playing action for the reserves, and most recently played in a 3-1 defeat to Huddersfield Town's second XI on Wednesday afternoon.
"Rob has done very well in training and reserve matches since joining us and I have been very impressed with him," said Richardson.
"It looks like he's going to be a very good goalkeeper in the future."
Elliot was brought in to act as back-up to Saul Deeney following the return of former on-loan goalkeeper Wayne Henderson to Aston Villa.
"He's a big lad at six-foot-three, and also very agile," added Richardson. "He was brought in to push Saul and if he keeps doing what he is doing he will get a chance at some stage in the future."
The latest extension of Elliot's loan will take him to March 30th, and should it be further extended for a third and final month, he will remain at Meadow Lane until County's penultimate match of the season.
Elliot is expected to be on the bench when County entertain Swansea City on Saturday.
