Lesson three. The proper title of the country is 'Zionist Occupied Palestine.' Please forgive me for using the I word before. Yes, I'm certainly up for some Palestinian flags at this game. It's the only one at home I'm aiming to get a ticket for, although I'm sure there'll be enough 'it's only sport, lads, FFS' a*seholes trying to put a dampener on things.
BTW, not that I'm an Ameriphile, but the Russians and Czechs were probably more keen on the setting up of this faux state. Probably the Germans too as it finished off what they started by getting rid of most Jews from W. Europe. Yes they 'stole' it alright...well perhaps received stolen property off the UN and the British. They should have been given a large chunk of Bavaria or Kazahkstan instead.
Mental Notes
1) Don't get on a bus in Israel - particularly if Lopez or Eanna are on it. :D
2) Glad the away game is first - if the planned protests do come off at the home game.
BTW I rang the embassy earlier this week - ther eis no problem getting into Israel with an Iranian visa on your passport however you may well be asked to explain it. The Israelis will stamp your passport and this means it is unlikely you'll be allowed to enter an Arab country again using that passport.

their cities are listed on BA's European network. .
You're laughing so.
I didn't think BA would list them as a European destination and that's what I was trying to point out. I'll probably get the flights I posted earlier on this thread. Let me know how you get on with BA.

BTW interestingly Israel got 38,000 on Saturday for the Swiss game. The stadium holds 42,000 which means we will only get 4,200 tickets.
I don't think the Israelis will be as keen as the French to post tickets to Ireland even if they do a public sale.
With Israel right in the shakeup now this game is sure to sellout.
Hard to know if we will bring 4,200 fans though. I think we will unless the Travel Agents get free access again to explain how dangerous the place is and it is only safe to go on organised trips.
BTW the €375 + tax flight was still available yesterday it is Czech Airlines

Everyone going should bring a Palistinian flags keep them covered untill the match starts....
Might **** 'em off
in most "democratic" countries you could be arrested for incitement to riot for that. In Israel they'd probably shoot you or stick you in jail for several years without trial. good idea though :)

Wouldn't have thought so considering there were only 2,000 in Switzerland. This being far futher from home and seen as having possible risk involved I can't imagine more than 1k.Although on the other hand Paris may have wetted the appetite for many away trip debutants...
Been on ebay looking for a second hand flak jacket, no joy.

If you went to the match in Theran, and youve still got the same passport (ie the visa etc is still in it)... well I'd try and get a new one before you go to Israel.

These p*ss ups near home on a weekend will always get the part-timers over. Anyway, for all the talk of the fans in Paris what about the 500 Faroes supporters! I think I heard on Sky that they have a population of 50K. That means one per cent of the population were in Ireland on Wednesday night.

Not sure if it is true but heard recently that FAIrleand have indicated to Israelis that they are only likely to require 600 tickets.

No problem with having Iran visa getting into Israel. The problem is getting into some Arab countries with an Israeli stamp on passport (which is why Israelis will provide stamp on a separate sheet so it is not permanently on your Passport).

Too true, their humor might not stretch that far.
Ah the return leg in Ireland will be the time....
Hi friends,
I just discovered this fantastic forum & I realy love it :)
My name is Eldad and I'm an Irish citizen who live in Tel-Aviv (I was born here, but my dad has immigrated from Dublin)... So ask me whatever you want to know about Israel, or specificly about Tel-Aviv.
I promise I'll be in the green stands in Ramat-Gan stadium at March!
I just started my "research" about how to purchase tickets for the Irish stands in Tel-Aviv (because here I can't do that)... So if you know how to help me, I'll would be grateful!
See you on March !!!
Shalom El Echem, Eldad (Hopefully that's right :o ).
Welcome to this board. Always interesting to find more far-sprung members of the Irish diaspora here. If you're after a ticket for the Irish end, try the FAI at info@fai.ie for tickets for this game (passport number should secure a ticket). Won't be going myself but was in the Bloomfield Stadium 20 years ago when Ireland first played in Tel Aviv. Great country: Shame about your prime minister there ;) (sorry if any offence, but I was born in England and you're welcome to diss the present PM here to your heart's content :D ).
Thank you Lopez,
We are more than 10 people that plan to join the green fans, some of them don't hold an Irish passport...
BTW, about cheap flight:
If someone of you would like to arrive from London or Manchester, just be informed that Turkish Airlines operate very frequent flight between Istanbul and Tel-Aviv, and that's a very good airlines (I flow with them to Singapore). They have flight between Istanbul to London and Manchester.
If need more help about flight to Israel, I know all airlines that fly to here because I work in the Airport!
BTW, any of your friends descended from Cork people? Conchita (the quare one/ball and chain/love of my life/air that I breath/wife :D ) comes from an area in the city where there used to a large Jewish Community but they all either went to Israel or the States when she grew up there.
More important information:
The game will be at Saturday evening.
Be aware of there is no public transportation (apart of taxis) from Friday (at about 4:00pm) to Saturday (at about 6:00pm), because of the importance of the rest day (Saturday) for the Israeli people. Sunday is a regular day in Israel.

Eldad, any information is useful but I am sure you will appreciate there is not likely to be any great demand for using buses around Tel Aviv. At times, we paddies can be thick, but not that stupid!

We had 4,000-5,000 in Basle - On 2nd thoughts 4,000 is optimistic all right to bring to Tel Aviv.
Eldad can you let us know when/where the U21 game is likely to be? If it is the Friday (assume it has to be) then will it kickoff befo0re sundown on the Sabbath.
Even the kickoff time for the Swiss U21 game and venue would be a help.
Had an idea that the Shabbat (lived in Hendon briefly; worked for three years in Golders Green) would be a prob re shops but didn't know the whole country shut down. I avoided Saturday on my visit there so had no experience. That means no bars from sunset Friday to sunset Saturday.  Next you'll be saying that you can't pick up a Galty style Pig-fest breakfast for love nor money!

Well, we have to wait till March for knowing the final desicion for the u-21 teams match... But Israel u-21 usually play in the stadium of Herzliyya, which is about 10 minutes drive north of Tel-Aviv.
You don't need to be worry about Shabbat. All restrants, places of entertainment & some shops at city centre are open in Shabbat!
Tel-Aviv is called "a non-stop city" because the city centre is active 24 hours a day. Friday night is the night when when young Israel used to be drunken in pubs. Ben-Yehuda St' is a street of pubs, there you can find some Irish pubs.
Sounds like a disaster to me if theres nothing open on the Saturday effectively puts an end to your Friday night as well.

Many businesses of entertainment (including pubs & restrants) are open Friday nights.

I wasn't planning on going to this one anyway. I was just going to plant myself in front of a telly in a pub. Presuming that it's an evening kick off I will still be able to do that. If however it's an afternoon kick off and I end up missing all or some of the match my mate will be getting a right kick up the arse.

The F.A.I. sold 3,000 tickets for Switzerland in Basle and had 4,000 applicants. They subsequently got some extra tickets not sure how many.
No doubt there were duplicate applicants after last time but definitely 4,000+ Irish fans there.
Israel is a lot more expensive to get to and given the current political situation not that attractive however I still reckon we'll bring 1500+.

2 hours difference, CET +1, like in Turkey & Cyprus.
Today I read an article in an Israeli website, YNET, that is saying that the Israeli football asscociation axpect to 20,000 Irish fans in Tel-Aviv!
They check the possibily to keep this amount of tickets for Irish fans & work with travel agencies to keep room asspecially for Irish fans!
I would say that if you plan to organize everything by yourself, it's better if you will do it quickly... Because rooms fares will be grown up.

Davros, I think 2000 max, like you.
But I can tell to you that tel-Aviv is very safe, I live in TA and it's not like what you watch on TV or listen to a rodio.
The point of the Iran visa souldn't be a problem, but for any case I will discuss with the Israeli ministry of foreign affairs. I will update you when I have news from them.

I will update you when I have news from them.No doubt - a la belle madonna - TA is safer than NY, or for the matter Paris (bombs on trains less than ten years ago and theives rampant). The perception is different. Also, other factors come into it. Not only has the country a record of having to switch games suddenly due to security concerns, 'wars' nearby etc, but Israel is fast developing a pariah status. I know of a few fans that are refusing to travel to this game purely for political reasons in much the same vein as they wouldn't travel to South Africa in the eighties. However in normal times and with a 'normal' society, I'd still think 2-3K travelling would be the norm. Don't be fooled by Paris: That was different. For the majority of people in Paris, Tel Aviv just hasn't got enough rip-off Oirish bars for them to travel - not that it has too many buses being turned into convertables.

Definitely - Paris was nearby, cheap and convenient to get to. Israel is a long way away and expensive. Furthermore it was France - recent world and european champswith household names. I know quite a few people who went to Paris that don't go to home games
Tel Aviv is probably a lot safer than Dublin too btw and Paris was bombed when we were there. :)
BTW I checked with the Israeli embassy her ein Dublin and they said no rpoblem re the Iranian visa and stamp. No harm in letting them know in advance though that we did play in Iran and no doubt the 400-500 that travelled will be in Tel Aviv and one fan who also did North Korea in 2002 during the World Cup. He'll have some explaining to do.
There is no danger at all of Irish fans bombing a bar in Tel Aviv - unless of course it was to run out of beer. :)

As I've written, there's no problem to get Israel with Iranian stamps on your passport, but the border police in Ben-Gurion airport don't know anything about our game in Teheran... and it is realy not nice to be investigated by the Israeli police about these kind of questions!
I will make some phone calls to the Israeli ministry of foreign affairs about a month before the game, and I will ask the Irish embassy here to do it also. I'll go to them tomorrow (it is 2 minutes walking from my home).
My dad got an e-mail message from David, a person who responsible about the security section of the Israel embassy in Dublin; He said that Israel has not any problem with that, but if you decide to fly with an Israeli airline (El-Al, Arkia or Isra-air) be ready for many questions about that... I will try to speak with the security department in El-Al about that.
However, today I spoke to the Irish embassy in Tel-aviv and they said they will think what to do & they'll call me back with an answer.
