And how do you know there aren't arguing with Israelies?Anyone who knows anything about the I-P conflict understands that this issue divides Jews. When the Londoner was shot by an Israeli soldier for being a 'human shield' for Palestinian kids a coupel of years ago it was a fellow Londoner, but also a Jewish one at that, that was the spokeman for his group.

Well, yeah, as I said, a painful, difficult and extremely complicated subject. Myself I am quite a left winger, but I understand many of the opposite side, even if I disagree with them. This is really hard for us. However, that's a bit far off from sports. :) That was probably the nice thing about this week's games, it really brought the entire nation together for a while, all behind the same goal, supporting the team. For me, as a sports lover, it was amazing to see how everyone (and I'm saying EVERYONE - on my mother's birthday dinner we were all talking about the games, including her who knows nothing about football). The incredible rating figures proves that as well - never before a football games here received such high figures.

What is the capacity of the Irish national stadium? and how many
tickets will be sold to the Israeli fans ?

It's in the region of 35,000 for full Internationals.
You'll be offered 3,000 or so.
Any that you don't sell will come back to us.

do the israelis envisage that they will bring 3000 to the game here? If so fair play

I don't think so. on the other hand, I can't be sure - we've had this amount of fans abroad already, with Hapoel Tel Aviv and Maccabbi Haifa in soccer, and with Maccabbi Tel Aviv (basktball) in abroad final four events, and with last year's Hapoel Jerusalem's European cup final. But the teams, I guess, still have more tradition than our national team. maybe the current campaign can change that. It also depends on the prices a lot... if there are good prices...

I'm dying to come, personally, but I've got a trip which is already planned and booked for two weeks before the game, I doubt I'll have the money for another trip. :(

By the way, a friend of mine was in Ireland over the weekend - when all the Irish fans were here - and he paid 200$ for his flight. :)

Israel national team never takes thousands to overseas, apart of one game which was played in Cyprus.

Hapoel TA took 10,000 fans to Uefa cup quarter-final in Milan.
A few thousands fans of Maccabi TA (in basketball) went to final-four tournment in Paris.

I guess that only a few Israeli fans will go to Lansdown Road.

Yeah, that's why I said I didn't think so. On the other hand, I'm thinking we might get a surprise - not 3000 fans, that's a bit too much - but maybe more than usually. The team has been really hyped lately, and combine that with Ireland being quite a preferred tourism spot for Israelis lately, that's not a bad combination.

Well, isn't that the point? When did the soccer national team got the same support the a-la "team of the nation" has received?

6,000 in Cyprus, September 1999

One game, six years ago. It was great to see, I don't deny that, but it doesn't happen very often, and definitely doesn't happen when the destination is a bit harder to reach. I know the prices are bad, but I'd love to see more support on a regular basis. If people are talking about the fact that the team lacks some kind of tradition, having a good and regular fanbase is a good way to start too.

Also non-Israeli Jews? Jewish Chronicle and London Jewish News both have reports about the recent games in their papers, and JC website (also Israeli clubs etc). Seems to me that there must be some form of interest in Israeli football amongst their readership for both papers to carry reports. Also, Iran sold out their section even though I can't see that many of them flew in from Iran. They liked their drink too much.

There are many of Israeli who live in the UK, and even a few hundreds in The Republic of Ireland, but I don't see many of them pay about 100 pounds for a football match...

well they'll be made perfectly welcome regardless of where they are travelling from.

Cyprus is only an hour flight from Israel ffs!!! its not like the six hours between TA and Dublin! I reckon anywhere between 8000-15000 will travel for our game in Cyprus in October dependig, on results in the meant time.

I meant 100 pounds for flights from western Europe, accomodation for a one night in Dublin, match ticket and transfers between airport, hotel and Lansdown Road.
I think it will be even more exspensive...

Well, considering the prices of charter flights between Israel and Dublin are usually about 500$... although I know that over the last holiday there have been packages in much lower prices. I'm guessing we won't be so lucky for the game, though. Last year's ULEB Cup final in Belgium was 700$ for two nights and a direct flight, and it was probably in the most yucky town in Europe, and surly not as expansive as Dublin.

In 'Berci' there is 12,000.

And again you just prove my point :) - the teams in Israel get much more support than the national ones. We've seen incredible amounts of fans follow MTA and Hapoel Jerusalem (last year), as well as the soccer teams which played abroad, but the national team hardly gets that kind of massive support.

The Berci showdown was really impressive though, as well as having half the hall in red last year in the Uleb Cup, or seeing the HTA fans following their team, I'd just want to see the same tradition develops around the national team.

We heard a whisper that there were some women in a club up the road so we legged it there as fast as our drunk legs would carry us but alas, by the time we got there, they'd moved on. :(
We saw one woman in the airport but she was behind the plexi-glass in passport control so we couldn't get near enough for a snog. :)

LOL I can imagine... that always drives me crazy while in Europe - how early things close at night. Here I hardly ever get to places BEFORE 1am. Midnight, if you wanna be early...

And as for the Irish men / Israeli women thing: I had to work after the game so I only got to the pubs around 1am, and by that point every Irish guy at the pub had at least 2 girls around him, seriousely. Colie especially had quite a few hanging around him!

It was really funny to see, although a bit bad for me - I got so late that finding a guy for myself was kinda hard ;)
