carbury(sligo) should give a good account of themselves in the junior cup, a bit of luck needed in the draw as usual. they were a fairly useful side and have picked up a few players from abbey utd too. only three teams get out of the sligo/leitrim/roscommon section into the open draw. carbury, city utd, boyle celtic, manor rangers, ballinasloe town and castlerea celtic would be expecting to be there or thereabouts from our section. castlebar, westport, ballina should make it out of mayo too......how will pike fair this year?? always knocking on the door

s+f utd will i think will come out of mayo too ... if they get the draw ......

I would be very surprised, fair enough corbally are playing poor enough in the premier but so are pats who are in 2a!!! Extremely surprised if the 'boro or mungret go out even tho its the cup, think they are just too strong for the respective teams and especially with them both at home.

Shannon 3 Prospect 0
Was not as easy as the scoreline suggests it flattered Shannon a bit to be honest Prospect played the better football , but tried to walk the ball into the net. Shannon are a big side and play to their strengths by hoofing the ball up to the centre forward to see can they get a flick on and it worked for 2 of their goals the other been a penalty a bad decision by the ref to be fair as the ball seemed to play the hand.
How Prospect did not score is amazing on another day they could have had at least 5 but it's all about taking chances . Shannons weakness is there defense they will eventually leak goals midfield is good got a few pacy players.

Dromore 2 Kilmallock 0!!
Kilmallock should have won by 4 or 5 and let in two poor goals from set pieces!!
Just cant take our chances!!

FAI Junior Cup (Limerick Area) 2nd Round

Herbertstown v Coonagh Utd

Anyone have any other results from this morning?

Herbertstown 2 Coonagh Utd 1

Coonagh will be disappointed to have lost as they were on top for most of this game. Herbertstown's first goal was from a ball into the box which should have been cleared (nice first time finish from the No. 7 though), whilst the second was an own goal after a quick break away following a handball incident for which Coonagh felt they should have been awarded a penalty. Coonagh did score with a penalty late on (Niall Hogan), but could not turn their territorial dominance and possession into goals.

Quick shout out to stand-in keeper Dave O'Connell who pulled off one of the best saves a lot of us have ever seen to divert a mis-judged pass-back onto a post. Outstanding reflexes and great footwork allowed him to get across, but it was still an amazing save ...

were you at the game???

first goal came from a neat bit of play between two of the lads and a fine shot into the corner of the net...there was no hoofing in that....one was a penalty...and the other was a cross into the box which ended up being a headed goal...so in fact none of our goals came directly from "hoofing" as you put it.

Ya i was and the first goal came from a long kick out by the keeper which was headed into the path of the on running eventual scorer who in fairness finished very well. And the other goal came from along throw in which was flicked on and ye eventually scored from a header ,the game was over at that stage anyway. Only for the ref gifting ye that peno would have been a different game. All ye were doing all day was launching the ball from the keeper to the centre forwards all day. But Prospect in fairness tore your defense apart with some great football which on another day would have accounted for a few goals.

i agree with that to a point but when they did create an oppertunity they seemed to pass it off rather than taking the shot on....

the words sore loser come to mind...so what if ye should have beat them..ye didn't.....so get over it and stop knocking teams for playing to their strengths..they obviously taught your backs were bad and exposed them...i saw shannon town play twice this year and they played a good passing game..sign of a good team if they can change things around..so get over yourself..its not as if either of ye are going to win fai cup:p
Who asked you for an opinion bud and with words like those ..... the words looking for an argument come to mind .....And whats this 'ye' about i was watching this game as a neutral and was just giving my view of the game so just take the bit of criticism and get on with it. :D:D

Lads, the man is entitled to express his opinions, thats the whole point of this website..... its about "opinions".............some may agree with them, others may not, but thats life, so get over it.

That said.

Credit to Shannon (however they got their victory), the main thing is, that they are through to the next round, and have now played 3 games in all competitions this season scoring 9 goals and conceeding 0, so they must be doing something wright!!!!

They beat Croom 5-0 at home (the same Croom that ****ed 1B)
They beat Balla "B" away 0-1 (always tough away to any Balla team)
They beat Prospect 3-0 (Prospect are a decent side)

So credit where its due, they're 3 good results.....

ya t'was 3 good results but tis early yet we aren't getting carried away. but one thing is for certain and we aren't one dimensional...you play to your strengths but soMetimes you gotta take the elements into consideration and we all know what the weather has been like lately it doesn't make for good flowing football..but that will come, when(IF) the pitches firm up. :)
