You may well be right Pacman about the second name not bein correct.Im not bang on myself.I got the news last night an they way it was said to me was that one of the Villas managers sons had signed, his dad is Florrie.I'll find out though an correct the post. With regards to Villa lads signing forms for other clubs I cant comment,I just know that 2 have signed for definate an Thur night from what I am led to belive another will sign .
that must be jonaton mccarthy, he's not great but young enough so maybe get better.

Cheers Yoda,as I said I only heard it late an at least now its corrected. With regards to his talent well hes in the right place to improve an from what I've seen of him he is the type of player that will suit the way we play.

Johnny is a very handy player. Can play in a few different positions, great heart and a good footballer. Very handy addition to Grattan

Well Pacman we could be accused of being slow to ask players to come aboard.I know for a fact the number of players we have actually asked to join over the last few years would be very little.Less than 6 or 7 I'd say an thats being honest.
I dont mean askin guys down the bar after a few beers or fellas askin there buddies out in town on the weekend I mean actually talkin to players in pre season to see if they would be interested in comin up an trainin to see if they fit in or not.Its pointless askin every tom, dick an harry(hes back friday by the way:D) to join because it only dilutes the overall squad. Its better to ask who may suit the way ye play rather than just gettin extra bodies on board. If theres 2 or 3 before the end of the transfer window I'd be surprised, just depends who;)

agree with can play in different positions,
agree with great heart but disagree with good footballer, average if anything, only my opinion of course.

Opinions is what its all about, some may think hes handy, some may not.You could argue that Leeside won the Mjc with a lot of avarage players who had great heart and determination. One opinion was that Harry Goulding wasnt good enough for the Aul squad:confused:.Another was that Varian was the best center forward in the Aul,yet hes playin outside left with Kinsale:confused:.As I'v said its just your opinions an Im confident that he is a good player an he will be of a benifit to our squad. But thats only my opinion.;)

You could argue it I suppose. It wouldn't be much of an argument though, considering the quality of players who didn't even make the bench for the final.

I saw 2 games over the weekend purely down to the fact that that they were both played an 100 yards from where I live.Blarney St did very well in all fairness against a decent Regional outfit. The made Regional work hard for there win an you could see by the way regional celebrated the winnin goal that they knew that this was a difficult game for them. The had the better chances through out an Blarney St were on the back foot for the majority of the game but when the St did get at Regional they tested them.
Regional took a deserved lead but the St got an excellent equaliser. The St goal keeper was outstandin an I mean that.I thought he was superb an though the St did well to get to extra time with Regional if those watchin were honest enough to admit it it could have been 4 or 5 an over an out if it wasnt for his display between the posts. It was a good footballin game to watch,no hoofin in fairness just ball on the ground by both sides. The difference was that Regional made changes to up there game against the changes that were forced upon Blarney st who were doin well to put it up to Regional with the 11 they started with.
I didnt see Graham Forde or Steve Walsh on there bench an they would have made a huge difference if the St had them to bring them on.Its a pity the St didnt get to penos because the way the goalie was play'n he would have saved the lot,but them the joys.
The 2nd game I saw was on Sunday.Ballyvolane had knocked us out of the Fai an deservedly so.Their prize for that was to play Dillons Cross up in Silverheights on Sunday mornin.Ballyvolane beat us by takin there 2 chances an defendin as if there very lives depended on it.We played well on the day but took the wrong option too many times so I was convinced they would take care of Dillon easy. How wrong could I have been.Dillons may not be blessed with the most talented bunch but some how it all comes together in one weird package to get a result.Ballyvolane were awful. Its the worst pitch in the Aul by a mile but Ballyvolane couldnt string 2 passes together an the heart an ability which showed against us was gone gone gone.
If Dillons have one thing in abundence that helps there cause its a fantastic work ethic.Everyone of them gives 110%,even the ones that the gear is just too small for;).They got a much deserved winner an Ballyvolane never even looked like gettin a equaliser.Dillons are the kind of team that play the same way wether they are 10 nil up or 10 nil down.It aint pretty to watch far from it but they deserved there win an the chance to play none other than Westport in the open round. The only minus point for them on the day was that the only player who actually stood out in all the dire displays around him was the center of midfield for Dillons .Great left leg an even on the terrible surface he looked a class apart. He got himself sent off with about 2 mins left. Why you may well ask, a reckless challange followed by a reckless comment to the ref.Now he misses the biggest game in his clubs history.Tough lesson to learn.I'v watch them a half dozen times mostly just me an my son just to pass the hours an get a bit of fresh air.For the most part they look out of there depth in Prem A,against a team like Westport an playin as I will presume on a rented or donated pitch(ie Mayfields) I would dread to think what the score would be.
I am presuming they wont be allowed use there own place even though to see the look on the faces of the Westport team if they arrived at Silver heights would be worth even my weight in gold:DI'm done knockin um an I hope they get to use there own place against Westport an me an me smallfella will watch the game too cheerin them on..Well done to Dillons Cross an best of luck against Westport. To dream a little dream,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

It was on the front of the Star pull out today. There were only 4 of the last squad named an the rest are all first timers.I spoke to the bloke who takes care of the selecting of the southern section of lads an he said that they hoped to arrange 2 more games at least after this so they can have a look at another 2 groups of players before they select the final squad for the big tournement next year.We will have to wait an see if any more are lucky enough to get a call.Varian was the only Cork lad selected. It was a fairly widespread selection in fairness.

Havnt heard anything about players pullin out up in Norrie land. All the Gratts that were asked for will show up an if he needs a few more he can have them.I'm headin up Sunday to an lookin forward to the game.Pointless goin up for the draw we might as well try to win it an make a go of it.If we cant get a result against Limerick then we dont really deserve to go any further. If we dont get a I'd rather not hear any excuses like we heard last year.
The Ballypheane thing if it happens will be a disaster for the league.Just think of it,no relegation this year an the teams with nothin to play for will just complete there fixtures an not give a phuc. Not on at all an with regards to the Bally players for the most part I found out most of um are goin to either Casement or Everton MSL sides.Just think of it if you havent of played Villa or Bally this season you will be awarded the points for the 4 games, thats 12 points,we'll be the laughin stock of junior football.Theres every possibility that a team might win the league based totally on the points awarded from the teams that have folded.
On the Irish junior panel we just have to be realistic. We may have been doin well over the last few years as a league but seein as we dont make the last 16 of the Fai junior or the semis or better of the Oscar on a yearly basis we still will have to live in the shadow of the stronger leagues such as Dublin,Limerick an Waterford.
Jp an Pa Connors got selected due to there displays in the Fai an Oscar games for the past 2 seasons, but ones playin with Marys now an the others jacked it in so for me theres only one or 2 others good enough for that standard.I cant speak about the MSL juniors an the MSL seniors can only play for the Irish Amature side, an the Buisness league, your havin a laugh

Simply fantastic news for Derek Varian! Delighted for him and Kinsale. Of course some of us think we should have had members on the panel before but what littleman said is absolutely spot on. When we're not in the latter stages of the big competitions it's hard to complain about not having players on the panel. Just goes to show you though that with a good run you will get rewarded like Grattan did with their two caps. Great news! Hopefully a few more can catch the eye over the coming months... any suggestions?
Derek Mc Carthy from Kinsale is one that sticks out like a sore thumb for me...

Glenthorn A were due to play Ballyphehane in the Munster Junior Cup second round - this game never took place as far as I can remember yet the A -side are now away to Castleview in the 3rd. Surely that is a sign that Ballyphehane are gone!!
So by my reckoning thats
Villa Utd
Albert Rovers
Casement B
Lee Rangers
and possibly Ballyphehane - this is a terrible situation
And more will go as well - as more and more players leave the country to try and find work

A good source says Ballyphehane players have begun signing for other teams.
On the Oscar Traynor team, why do ye think some players dont care about it? To me, a player of lesser talents!, it is a version of a county cap.
My brother(you know him dont ya streetscene!!) recently became the first from our club to be called up, so off went 4 or 5 of us to Blarney to watch the Kerry game. As he was going out onto the pitch as a sub before the game, he came over and was just delighted to be there and have the gear on. He got on for the final 4 minutes, and his ego is super inflated now!! Seriously, he is walking on air after 4 minutes.
Is it just the same change in society that means teams cant find 15 people who turn up two nights a week and dont drink the night before a game?

On the comment of not wanting to play for the Aul- talking to players they just think its a closed shop and bit of a Raggy Rvs team. met up a few days before hand and play a game, not good enough at all.
The Cork Aul panel should train together at least once a week, there players get to know 1 another, where you make runs to, what you do with the ball ect ect
If I were giving the chance to be the Cork Aul boss, I would be at at least 2 games a week {Didnt see Minty at 1 game this year let alone a weekend} Spend the first month of the season getting around to see every team in the Premier and Premier "A", also would send some backroom staff to to lower division games, a few gems to be found down there. aint that right Horse!!! Id then organise training nights for an extended panel of maybe 35/40 depending on quality available over a month after which the Cork Aul 22 man panel could be selected. Train maybe every Wed, nothing to tough {i would expect the clubs to be doing tough training still in September?} developing pattern of play and systems and working on technique. maybe a game against CBSL ,MSL Jnrs or Msl Snrs. The week of the game i would look to have the players both Tues and Thurs{ if you have a player on the squad the club will have no fixture}
People have to remember we as the Cork Aul are at a minus to the rest of Muster before the Oscar Trynor ever starts because usually our best players are playing Senior League where as there is none in the rest of Munster. Dublin is the only area this happens too as well, but seen as there is over 1 million in Dublin I think they have enough players up threr to cope with it.
Iknow its a RANT but would love to hear others comments on this set up

its great to see derek varian get a call up for the irish squad and hopefully we might as a league get a bit of pride in this.did nt hear anything about ballypheane but if its true things like this has to have a big reflection on the players involved.today players are been well looked after compared to yesteryears but they still dont grasp what it takes to run clubs on a weekly basis.commitees dont fold clubs players do.horse its great to have players from other divisions in the aul squad and as you said delighted to be there while others find it a hinderence.

Casilles, I have no doubt Minty or his side kick floats in and out to the occasional game,(Seen him at the Blarney st./Regional game )lately only for 30mins of the 2nd half . Maybe you missed 'em but he probably saw enough to justify his pickings. I would like to say lay off the management because as we all know it's great while your winning but your head is on the block if you suffer a bad defeat.
As far as representing the Aul it is a great honour. I had the pleasure of being involved with Peter Jones and Ger Foran in 2006. We came together as a team in October that year, Trained ever Tuesday and played the odd Practice match before the serious business.
Got to the quarter final and on the day nothing went right for us( Every team has those days) Unfortunaely we came up against a superb Dublin outfit that hit form and we sufferd a heavy defeat.
Perhaps there were lads back in Cork smirking because they thought they might have been good enough to make the panel.
But for me that year was brilliant. Made great friends and will hang onto the memories for a long time.
Good Luck to the lads Sunday :)
just to comment on the ballyphehane situation!! the players are partly to blame of course but i think that if we had a proper commitee behind us not a 21 year old secertary, 2 managers who hadnt a clue and were forgetting to bring the gear and water bottles to game and a very good uefa A coach but had to constantly leave early to train cork schoolboys!! wat took the biscuit 4 me was before the kinsale game and a player asked the manager wheres the keeper and the reply was "i dont know im not ringing him hes a l**g*r" he missed training during the week and wasnt even told about the match!! it was there and then i made up my mind to leave!! it didnt help losing quality players to australia at the season but we brought in enough quality to replace them and what happened is a shame and with a bit of correct and commited leadership could have been avoided!

The latest that i have heard is that the AUL have given Ballyphehane a few weeks grace in the hope that they can sign new players and not withdraw. This may be false but just what I have heard

A few very good topics on the agenda lads an I'll start with the Ballypheane situation.
If Ballypheane do go I would seriously expect the Aul to arrange a meeting between them an the remaining 8 teams as to how best complete the rest of the season an still allow it to be done fairly. As I have pointed out this situation of just awarding the points for the games to be played is only practical for one side pullin out if the 2nd side goes with the remaing games left to be played in the league the chance for teams to make up ground just aint there. To win the league, any league you should have to play a minimum amount of games not be awarded points for games,it just dosent make sense. There is no way our club will stand aside an see this season's title awarded to any side based on points they got for games they didnt even have to play an you can quote me on that.I wouldnt accept it for ourselves before anyone has a pop ,your supposed to win the league because your the physcially won more points than any other an definately not because the league fell apart.
With regards to future Junior Internations from the Aul or any other Cork side I still dont really see anyone who is up to the standard. We have some excellent prospects an we may be lucky to see a few of them receive a call up but only time will tell.
Derek McCarthy is a smashin player but when you reach the quaters of the Fai every team has 2 Derek McCarthys so the standard is very high.
Varian has been playin very well over the last 2 seasons an now is his time.He will either impress or he wont an if he dosent it will be someones else turn .On pure form for me the best center half in the Aul at the minute is Eric Shinkwin ,theres knowone near him at the minute.
Brian O'Sullivan is highly fancied to replace the lad Walsh from St Michaels who has 50 caps, but Brian is still very young.I would be very surprised if he dosent get a call in the new year though as it seems its a case of when an not if for him to get a call up.
Figo on his day has nothing to compare with in Cork, junior or Senior for me.He's been tapped up left right an center by the MSL sides but he is Grattan captain an this is where his heart lies.Well if Gerry Smith wanted a box to box player he could do himself no harm by havin a look at Cans .
Ye may think bugger that to my selection but its only my thoughts on what I have seen in our league over the last few seasons. We have to be realistic here when we put players names out there because the people who count, pick players most of the time on what they have been told by someone else watchin a game.We seem to think that we automatically deserve credit for our players an clubs in Cork simply because if we dont we say its biased towards us.We need to be winning the Fai junior an Oscar an not as we seem to be doin considerin it a great success to get out of Cork for the open draw.As a league we arnt even in the top 4 of Aul's in this country.Dublin,Limerick an Waterford an even Tipperary have overall better sides than us .Leeside won the Mjc,Kinsale are one of our top sides,Wilton,Glenthorn all the Prem sides have good players for the most part, but if you were lookin for the really special players then the pool from which we can draw is very small. To get anyone on the panel is a fantastic pat on the back for the player, his club and the league.
Ps the Killer B's had another good win yesterday after 7 weeks with no game.thats 6 wins at home on the trot an a draw an a loss away. The loss was the first game of the season .
Good luck to the lads in Limerick today as well.

I don't always see eye to eye with you littleman but I have to agree with your rant.
Even if Grattan are the worst affected by this situation (because you have dropped 4pts to Ballyphehane), and you never opened your mouth about this situation when Villa went (Kinsale were the worst hit at that stage); you are still right. The fairness of a league season where everybody plays each other home and away has been ripped to shreds.
3 teams have played Ballyphehane twice (Grattan, Park and Kinsale) by mid december and another 3 teams (Wilton, Glenthorn and Leeside) stand to gain a gimme of 6points for sweet fa is farcical in the extreme. Wilton also picked up 6 pts from the Villa fallout earlier. All they need is another few teams to pack in and they'll get the highest points total ever. Funny if it wasn't so serious.
As well as the points dropped, teams have picked up yellow and red cards playing Villa and Ballyphehane and this has led to suspensions for some teams but not for the 'lucky' few. We always talk about the luck of the cup but the league should be seen to be equally fair for each team.
The games against Villa and Ballyphehane should be 'expunged' (the term used when Dublin City left the LOI a few years back. All their games were made null and void. In the Leinster Senior League, results against teams who go bang before playing 10 games are not counted in the final tables.
I hope Ballyphehane stay in business but if they dont then the league has a major problem on its hands. Who can blame the top clubs for applying to the MSL when this type of rubbish is the reward for staying put.
The games against teams who drop out should be made null and void as should any yellow cards picked up in these games.
The league would then have 8 teams and the games between this lot should count towards the title. Only 14 games each, not ideal but better than using imaginary points, in my opinion.

6-0 to Knockavilla V Glenthorn B in the AOH - a disgrace - 5 players didnt show on the day- including no goalkeeper so didnt stand a chance .
Just to add my tuppence to the Ballyphehane situation and the above farce of a game yesterday - players now a days dont give a damn and I feel the Night Leagues have a lot to answer for . Why get up on a Sunday morning when you can arrive at a pitch at 7.55pm on a friday night and play a game for an hour and then get changed and go on the **** afterwards

I need to correct you there Shilts , we only played Bally once & that was our first game which was 3-3.
