We're on the same flight, although Wizz have changed the time to 9.55. It now doesn't arrive until 2.55am. Now we just have to find a nice late bar.

Im sure we will find one :D, anyhow our body clocks will still only be 12.55 as we land 2.55 Sofia time ( two hours ahead ) what hotel have you booked?
Im sure there will be some amount of alcohol consumed between Dublin Airport , London Luton and then Viva Sofia !!! :p
Have you sorted out your tickets for the match yet ? A couple of us have sent in emails to ticket requests , still waiting to hear though,
11 of us have booked now all flying on the Thursday , going to be good crack

We're in the Hotel Lion by the Lion bridge. Dodgy area by all accounts, and €328.00 for a twin and a single for 3 nights, no triples unfortunately. Just the tickets to get now.

she should of moved faster !! :( Going to cost her €540 now and would of been €360 forthnight ago

Lufthansa still have availability from Dublin via Frankfurt on Thursday and Friday and returning Sunday for €395 and Air France are available via Paris for €470. Saves on the London flights and travelling with the one airline removes the risk of missing connecting flights and being left stranded.

not sure if this posted already but another option which might suit some people is British Airways 168 sterling return Heathrow to Sofia. Times aren't great though but there are other times which are more expensive.

spent a bit extra and went for a direct flight only charter to Bari. getting a direct flight to and especially from the match actually makes the trip twice as good IMO. worth every cent.
i know the packages can appear to be very expensive but when the destination is difficult it can be the way to do it

I spent a few weeks working out there a few years ago and the food isn't any worse than anywhere else. There are all the usual fast-food joints if you are happy with Micky Ds or KFC. Beyond that there are plenty of pizza places and a few chinese and indian places as well. JJ Murphys do all the usual Irish pub grub (I think there are a couple of newer Irish bars as well)
http://www.jjmurphys.com/index-c-browse_menu_category-el-9.html
For something a bit different you could always try this place - Beyond the Alley, Behind the Cupboard (one of the more upmarket places in Sofia)
http://www.beyond-the-alley.com/indexe.htm
Knowing my away trips it will be a kebab hunt after the pubs close....

Just couldn't be arsed taking the Monday off & possibly even the Thursday too but might just have to. Also sitting down & getting the cheapest route is a baxtard. I've already tried twice, wasted about 2 hours & haven't got anything yet but a sore head.

For me the 'convenience' is part of the Value For Money of the trip. I accept spending some time in a new city enroute adds value too. But, sometimes getting to and from a place is good aswell.
If I'm going to this, I hope to pick the shortest travelling time.

On ybig they said that there is no way there will be a charter put on. For me I have decided for all future Saturday away games I am going to fly in on the Thursday and leave on the Monday. The only way to do it really. You need 2 days of build up before the game and getting up early the day after the game is a disaster. Sunday is the day of sightseeing, which involves walking around aimlessly for a while in a hungover state before someone says at about 2 o clock, fancy a pint and then thats the end of that.

Didn't say. Just said price to be confirmed ("Successful applicants will be notified of the number and cost of ticket/s in due course") and that they'll place a €2 handling charge on all tickets to cover postage, credit card clearance, and administration costs.

As far as I remember, we don't get in to Sofia until about 10 or 11 that night so we'll have to make the most of our time in the bar in Charles de Gaulle (3 or 4 hours I think).

Might be worth looking at booking minibus or something in advance if enough numbers? Believe some of the local taxi drivers can be a little unpredictable when it comes to calculating fares.

They can't be any worse than the taxi drivers in Bari.....looking for double and treble the fare going home each night...we just got out at the hotel each night chucked €15 at the driver which was more than the taxis the hotel ordered for us going out in the first place, and told him to **** off:D

I'll ask our hotel if they can recommend a reputable firm if people want. How did you gauge numbers for Montenegro? Is it just a question of compiling a list as below in this thread or starting another thread?
Bus Transfer - Sofia Airport to City Centre at 22.30 approx. (Sveta Sofia Hotel, Any other stops required?)

Its only about 15min to city centre and should cost 10-15 lev( about €7)
Just get one of the yellow OK taxis outside terminal and you will be grand. Only get these as rest are rip off merchants.
