How are Douglas hall doing these day's??

MSL:
Senior:
Won Beamish stout Senior Cup
Runners up in FAI (to rockmount)
3rd in league
Junior:
Won 1st Division
Won league cup

AUL:
2nd in AUL Division 1 (no promotion as only league winners go up)
They looked very strong at the start of the season but faltered in the run in...

All in all I would say a pretty good season for the Douglas Hall club.

The rumor mill seems to be in full wing an preseason is'nt even upon us yet.A few yarns bein spread already............

Ballypheane may or may not be puttin a side in,there manager from last year is gone for sure.

The Kinsale management has jumped ship, pardon the pun an a couple of the crew too,off to Everton Srns I've heard. An truth in this Tizz.

I can confirm the Gratts will have a new manager for the new season.Last years manager Pat Caulfield has to go abroad with work an I would just like to take the oppertuinity to say thanks for everything over the last 3 an a bit seasons.Player wise there wont be many changes.A few out an a good few in as with all of us I'm sure.Pre season for us starts next Tuesday night up in O'Neill Park at 7:30 if anyone is interested ye are more than welcome.

I heard a rumour that the Ballyphehane manager is making his way up to Grattan. Any truth in it?

Barry McGovern is gone to Everton as far as i'm aware. Peter Jones is back in the Kinsale hot seat which everyone is delighted about.

Heard lots of different rumours about players coming and going but until preseason starts i cant confirm anything.

Definately in for an exciting season tho:D!!

What I will confirm is that he is at present one of 4 or 5 people that have expressed an interest in doing the job.Its probably one of the plum management jobs out there with regards to football in Cork.T'is just a matter of finding the right man or men for the job.

But I will add in sayin that the rumor mill again is workin overdrive at the minute an it dos'nt help that we share a bar with 4 or 5 teams .According to the stories being banded about at the minute we wont even have enough to field a team with all the lads leavin us to go to who ever.Players are always bein tapped up an will always be.Part an parcel of the game, especially if you have a good group of players.Im very confident in who we will have again with us an we just need to strenghten again in certain areas an we should have that sorted over the pre season. No point in signing every tom, dick an harry just to have numbers.

The manager will sign who he wants just before we have to hand over our registration forms, that way he can choose exactly what he needs for the season.

Pre season is always a funny time, your hopin you main players turn up an you panic when instead of 20 for the first session you only get 10,holidays an other clubs inviting players to train usually makes up the reasons for poor numbers.Tis not till 2 or 3 weeks before the season starts that you start to get any major amount of bodies up an you can have alook at things. As far as I am aware we will only have 1 of last years bunch not rejoining us.His reasons for leaving are his own an its his decision. You would have thought that it we would find it easy to attract new players but if anything its the opposite.I get the feeling fellas would like to try but dont have the confidence to come up in light of some of the players who they would be competing with for places.Cant understand that myself.

Have a strange situation that I can't go into yet but I need to ask a question about. I'm thinking of entering a team in the AUL. Looks like I may be able to get a pitch from the corporation. Anyone have any idea what the costs are to run a team for a season. Both direct costs and indirect costs?? Insurance, public liability etc. Any info would be greatfully appreciated

littleman
02/07/2008, 12:50 AM
Insurence is roughly 1200 euro per team. But it will depend on where you may be getting the corporation pitch.ie Norhtvilla Park is corpo ground but the Fai Junior council wount let games be played there unless new goal posts are erected, cost roughly 1200 to 1500 euro a set.Shop around for insurence as there are more than one Fai endorsed insurence company around now an you have to have insurence before the accept you in.

Dont know if you know this or not but the Aul wont take any new teams unless they have dressing rooms organised as well. And you need to have a written undertaking of this as well for them. These can be from 50 euro up per game,if there available.

Refs range from between 37:50 up to 42:50 dependin on who or where your playin. If the ref has to travel from afar it can be higher again.

Training in one of the all weather places is again roughly 50 to 75 euro a night for an hour. They normally want a deposit of 4 weeks money to hold a pitch for you an are nearly always fully booked so ring now if your serious.

A set of nets will cost roughly 200/300 euro an corner flags can cost 100 for a set of 4.

And lastly think wisely an long an hard before you start up a new club,no thanks an a awful lot of hard work is all thats in front of you.Unless you won the lotto an have an bottomless pit of cash it will eat money to kick a ball in Cork. You must be mad, trust me dont bother an join an existin club near ya.Theres nothin worth the grief of trying to run a club.Trust me I know............................

Can't give much details but it seems the AUL rule won't apply. I have gear etc. I was just wondering about renting a pitch with a dressing room somewhere and insurance. Affiliate fees I know about. I have been involved with an AUL team for a few years but not anymore

You said you had a corpo pitch, thats different to rentin a pitch.Rentin a pitch is harder because the good ones ie,Garryduff an Pfhizrs or Lakewood are about 100+ euros per week at least with showers an for home games you add the refs fee an your lookin at in excess of 160 euros a week minimum.Thats a hell of a lot of money for a junior club to be payin out on a weekly basis.Lesser ones ,ie Hillington Park,Pidgeon Hill ,Killeady or Monard even Killbarry are 75 plus an upwards an the facilitys are basic if at all.Crossbarry would be the bottom of the pile.God only knows what you'd end up sharin with,Cows or even worse the Shippin League.Dont go there.

Villa in the Prem may be lookin to share but thats only a maybe. If your from Norrieland good times because theres lots of corpo pitchs, well a few anywhay,if your not bad times ,because there aint that many on the southside sorry always wanted to do that,:D

Insurence comes in 2 parts.
One , Public Indemnity which protects you from any person that dose damage to himself while hes on the pitch or dressing rooms when he shouldnt be.
Two, any person that dose damage to himself while playin for ye an ye need to get either physio or more serious treatment,it might seem a bit much but its well worth it if a lad gets a bad injury.
You need both an normally come all rolled into one package from one of the Fai indorsed insurers.O'Driscoll /O'Flynn is the one we use if I'm correct.

Nothin would surprise me where the Aul are concerned. The only thing weirder than tryin to understand the Aul is tryin to understan why someone would want to draw all the hassel of startin a new team on himself.Better the devil you know an stick with the crowd you agreed to manage.

Theres a couple of head the balls on this site who only post somtin every once in a while an then dissapear but its nearly all in good spirit otherwise..A little niggly sometimes but its good to keep us on our toes.We have Kinsale,Wilton,Leeside,Innishvilla,Grattan,Springf ield,Doughlas Hall an Pearce to name but a few represented here.Well there the ones who admit to followin a club at least an another dozen who post ther own up takes on the lastest gossip.Still as I've said we treat each others comments for the most part with respect and even appriciate the other side of the story from time to time.

Look "olly" we have a hole season of nit pickin an swipin remarks in front of us an I for one am tryin to refresh me batteries.;)

Just to say preseason is in full swing, some have stayed some have gone an some new faces have even come in but as junior football in Cork has been ,is an will always be very fickle, loyality is in short supply.Theres no such things as a club player anymore, not meaning to sound sour but just me being honest.I have the utmost respect for anyone who has played with the same club for more than 10 years an is still there, how many could say that the way football is at the minute in the Aul.

Every club will be in the same position, lose a few straglers pick up a few raw recuits an do the best we can,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,tis only around the corners lads an thank God too because I'm bored silly...........:p

Hi all, littleman I have to agree, it is a constant point that I always have to bite my tongue in relation too, club loyalty. I have only played for the one club, I have moved to over 20 miles from the home pitch but I still can only see myself playing for the one club (now the fact that I'm a fairly average player that'd mean I haven't exactly been head hunted might have a bit to do with it!!!), however it is fairly standard for players to change clubs throughout the divisions and leagues. Just look at the number of transfer rumors threads in this site alone. I accept that sometimes the best option for an individual player is to move teams, but to compare with GAA, there is bordering on uproar if a player leaves a club without moving house to about 100 miles away or something like that.

I'd like to think that with our current underage structure flourishing and the new pitches coming online (by the way we're currently fencing the pitches they look great) that this would develop more "club" players so fingers crossed for the future.

Dont get me wrong an its not like we wouldnt like a few more new faces but I cant see there being many changes to the squad,3 or 4 new players in an 3 or 4 out.Why fix what aint broken an all that.

Best news for me was that Lofty is back in full trainin an cant wait to get back playin. He missed the whole of last season with an injury suffered against Marys in that poxy preseason match that was abandoned.

Darren Galvin is also back with us an seeing as he was one of the best players we had the first time we won the Prem he is another fantastic signing. There maybe another 2 or 3 but thats it I'd say.

Tizz,Bog,Rebel any news;)

hello old friends
things have started up at the seaside this tuesday with a nice gentle run, peter jones is shouting instructions from the line this year with the departure of last years coaching staff. a few new faces and plenty of old ones but a young and hungry squad by the looks of things, we'll be biting at the bit for a game inna few more weeks, we'll have 2 pitches on the go this year, the old pitch is looking nice n lush with all the rain, the new pitch will take a couple of weeks for the final adjustments to take hold and we'll be away for slates
the bottom corner is very close to charles fort and we're not allowed to put up fencing so we may have to put our balls on a length of string to keep em from rolling down the (fcukin big) hill
i'll try to get ye a picture of the scenery
i passed by o'neill park the other day on the way for chips and there's no sign of any movement on yer dressing rooms lads, hopefully for all concerned ye havent had any setbacks, we gave our shed a bit of a face lift so it'll be nice and comfortable for those wet days in jan/feb/march/apr .......
who came up with wilton this year ? should make for another decent league campaign, we have to turn things around this year in the league, last year was our worst for years and that all came about in the last 6 games, jonesy will be tougher and meaner when it comes to getting the most from the players in my opinion, great to have him back !

so a panel of in and around 20 seems to be the going rate, we also have a 2nd team entered with a big number of casual footballers so fingers crossed for some success at the seaside, on the loyalty thing, i think theres nothing wrong with pushing your ability and joining a better team and trying to improve all aspects of your game, there'll always be some players but its the core that will bring the whole thing together, cans for grattan is a prime example, wears his heart on his sleeve and is an out n out grattan player, we're lucky enough to have a few also so if we can bring in some fresh meat then it shakes everyone up to improve

i've been out of the gossip earshot so havent a clue how everyone else is getting on, as you said littleman, there'll be plenty happening once the football starts up, anyone fancy a mossie and a trip to the cross before christmas ?? ya gotta fancy a night up in town to collect a medal ..

have you come out of the closet yet chico ?? where will you be resident in shouting at the refs for the coming season ? besta luck with whatever emerging northside talent you can uncover and tame
tizz out for now

Sorry Tizz but there seems to be somtin of a johna everytime I mention us an the Cross,3 semis in the last 2 seasons an lost the lot,all at home so I shut me mouth an wait an see,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,:o

On the dressing rooms all I can say is that we are devestated that we are still waiting for a start on it.Everything is in place, finance, planning ect .Totally out of our hands. But what I will say is that if a certain minister in Dublin by any chance looks at this site can he please ask his secretary to take their preverbial finger out an make the call an leave us have our bleedin dressin rooms,,,,,,,,,,,sorry for the rant lads but me an the rest of the die hards up in O'Neill Park have all put a hell of a lot into getting this far only for someone in Dublin who dosent know even who we are or how much we have riding on getting these dressing rooms, to hold things up.

The Aul at its Agm had a vote for the implementation of 2 transfer windows,November an January. This was passed on the nite by those in attendence.Going forward it ment basically a player once signed for a club can only transfer out or into a club during these transfer windows .

I was told last night that the Fai junior council have passed a ruling that will effect this.It will be posted on Billys blog shortly so keep an eye out as it is going to really stir things up.

olachico

I'm no longer a delegate so didn't go to the AUL agm. This rule could be both a good and bad thing preventing fellas leaving after a few games if they are not in the starting 11 . I'm assuming you can still sign a player who is unregistered outside these windows. And sure as is always the way in the lower leagues of the AUL why do you need to sign at all!!!:p Actually met another club one day in our league when i was with Hibs as we were both on our way to our respective games . Asked them about a player i worked with and they said he was no longer with them. To my surprise he was credited with 2 goals in the paper the following wednesday:eek:

The season is due to start the 3rd week of August, usual midweek games for 2 to 3 weeks depending on the light. The new fixture secretary is Tony Chambers:eek:,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,my heart sank when I heard that.Richie Brown was top notch last season an when he was away Mr Chambers was in charge, could'nt be less alike in terms of ability.

Its official now that the Fai have ruled that a player can only register with 2 clubs in any one season. This ruling is to be passed down to the individual leagues to be implemented going forward this season.

Also they are bringing back the 5 yellow card rule.5 yellows equals one game suspension or fine.

olachico
18/07/2008, 4:30 PM
In Tony Chmabers defence he is not a young man anymore. The fixtures really need to be done on a computer and it wouldn't be fair to expect him to be able to do as good a job as Richie. Was actually considering getting involved with the AUL committee myself this season if i didn't go to another club. Reffing was the other option. I was one of the few dopes who actually did the REFEREE course when the AUL suggested:eek:. Will the 5 yellow cards rule apply the whole way down the leagues?? This could cause widespread panic . Are the managers now supposed to know how many cards a fella has. Don't we have enough to be doing:mad: I can see many situations where people will play players who might have had 5 cards spread out over a season without realising they are actually suspended
