Its surprisingly quiet here regarding the OT. Still maybe the league and cup will bring out the best in the posters here, especially what is going on with Moher. Bad enough that they are playing when it suits them but now their manager is reffing their games.I thought I had seen it all with the Clare League but this will take some beating.

looks like the whole OT v league stoppage backfired badly. The Moher Fri/Mon
religious/GAA issue is blatant favouritism and bordering on cheating. Can somebody clear this up once and for all...why dont they play Sundays like everyone else???
The Clare league must have been top of the class at the John Delaney/FAI school of football administration. First class honours degrees all round:confused:

Moher are quite within their rights to request games on Mondays and Fridays when it suits ie WHEN IT SUITS BOTH TEAMS. Its up to opposition teams to tell the league if it doesnt suit them to play on those days. Why do they play Monday night surely if sunday doesnt suit they could play on saturday evening and lads could go out for a few pints after.
If a lot of teams are unhappy then put in an objection together. If the objection is ignored then you can go on about favouratism but its unfair to say that before you try.
As regards a manager of a team reffing any fixture other than a friendly this must be a wind-up. I cannot believe that this could happen in any sport at any level.

I saw six of the best goals I have ever seen in one match last night. And an honest Bridge B team just happened to be at the wrong end of it.Old " One goal a season" Noel Donnellan hits a 25 yard unstopable volley start with his right!!This is followed by Tom O Hare's flick over his man and a 20 yard lobbed volley to the back of the net .Cheeky buries a shot from 15 yards after great passing by OHare and BJ.Razor hits a 23 yarder with his left to the top of the net.BJ hits the bar with a 30 yarder.BJ cuts in from the right and hits acurled shot from 30 yards into the bottom left hand corner.Cheeky dances around the defence throws a Ronaldino type dummy and then sticks the ball in the bottom corner.
And their keeper played well and pulled off some excellent saves!!!!

in fairness celtic battled hard and were unlucky to go in 2 down at half time...well deserved win by newtown their fitness and class in front of goal was the difference on the night.....the first two goals were absolute crackers and the other 4 werent half bad either....

Was talking to 1 of the players last night and he told me that Clare play 3 at the back and that the pitch was huge, he said that when AFL sent the ball up front that they had loads of time to do what they wanted, surely if that was the case then a normal 4 at the back would have helped. I don't think(maybe i'm wrong) any club in the Clare league play 3 at the back so why confuse things at OT level, surley the players would be more comfortable with the 4-4-2 formation.
Oh ya, the match cancellations prior to this game, what good did it do???

Bridge Celtic big number 10 is a very good player and wouldn't look out of place in Premier imo, He held the ball up well and has a few good touches aswell.Your right tough, Newtown finished their chances well.

Agreed and never stopped trying to play football.
What Newtown wouldnt give to have shared some of those goals in their recent poor league run!!!!
Re the clash of the Titans beteen Alex and the Bridge keeper Dave Byrne.I thought one of them was going to see sense and pull out.It was like slow motion and the veritable immovable object meeting the unstopable force.
They collapsed in a heap ,got up,not a word and were ready for more.Cracking stuff!!!!!

Your talking rubbish man.We are playing them friday and we wanted to play them at the weekend instead. We were told where to go.So can you explain how it suits both teams.I can also remember asking for a weekday game rather than the weekend.Again we were told where to go.Why do bridge celtic, newtown and avenue not have weekends off?Because they would be told where to go.The clare league want Moher to win the league. Why? I dont know. While im at it can i express my delight at the Oscar trainers getting knocked out.Now we can get on with the league. No disrespect to the players:ball:

Sorry Side Cutter you misunderstood my point.
The game should only go ahead on a Friaday night "IF IT SUITS BOTH TEAMS". It obviosuly doesnt suit your side so then it should be played on a Sunday. Travelling to Moher on a Friday evening will not suit any team (other than Moher).
If you and other teams were told where to go then its obviously one rule for Moher and one for everyone else. IMO your club should tell the league when your side IS AVAILABLE to play the same as Moher have done. If every team down to play on a Friday or Monday in Moher objected then the league couldnt throw you all out.
Another point - how come Moher have so many home games left (on Mondays and Friday evenings) Its miles from anywhere else in the county.

Why dont all the other clubs ring Mike Lydon and Jim Madden and say they only want to play on Sunday!!!!But if we all just keep moaning on this website nothing will happen

Its probably would, But the fact is they are fighting for the tital and are getting every chance to win it because they don't have to play when it clashes with GAA. They are located in the back of nowhere so trying to get out there to play on weekdays is a joke, at least at weekend (sunday) teams can make the journey with no problems. They (Mohar) are getting favour's because they have GAA players on their team, Lets not forget GAA is a different sport so why accomadate it.Ive said this before, If the GAA have a game on that clashes with Football "soccer", do they refix or cancel their games, NO, and rightly so, so why do the Clare League:confused:

A piece of history will accurr tomorrow evening that may ripple through the anals of time. A group of young men will head to the fabled and feared land of the north west of Clare to battle the now mythical giants of the men from Moher. A group of men known as the Olympians, they carry the hopes and fears of many on their young shoulders, that they can vanquish this monster whose tentacles are spreading to the once powerful bastions of a game called soccer in Clare. Hopes are high that at least a wound can be inflicted on these giants so that the job can be completed by another formerly feared group of men from Tradaree. This is ever looking less and less likely because the stories abound of sorcery and witchcraft been part of the armoury of the men who worship the cliffs. They have taken over the minds , it is said of the leaders and organisers of said battles and have managed to engage all comers at times when they are at their weakest. This they say is only happening because of these giants worship of another God known far and wide in the country of Hibernia as the GAA. Let us hope that these barve 11 from Olympia do not become the latest sacrifices to the Gods that live , it is said at the bottom of the cliffs and only rise as the sun rises on the day of the Moon and again on the twilight of the week.

Does anyone know the date of the A.G.M?
What has to be done to get Summer football discussed/ratified at said meeting? Shels perhaps you can guide us on that one if you were involved in schoolboy move to summer season.
Has anyone heard the facts on the "reserve" league proposed for next year consisting of only "b" teams?

It is a lot simpler to do junior football than schoolboys because you dont have to take into account a scenario where kids are forced to make a decision on which game they will play before they are old enough.
After that you could look at the GAA programe for the year and where there is no need to clash, avoid the days they play on.You might offer to meet the GAA at board level out of courtesy.Advise the clubs to do this at local level. If this cant be done so be it, decide a start and end date.Say May to October.Decide whether you will include or exclude weekdays, there maybe no need as you will get little or no weather cancellations.Talk to the referees so they know whats going on.Use Friday Saturday Sunday nights and days. You could ask the clubs to decide their home preference and give it to them.
You could include a holiday break but not absolutely neccessary as you will not agreement on which weeks due to the old "last week in July 1st week in August" no longer being the norm.Would suggest no games on August BAnk holiday weekend.
As far as I know this is being included in Liffords proposals to the AGM this year. This needs to be confirmed with them.If it is not then get them or some other club to do it written on the proposal form not verbally on the night.Get it seconded and voted in.Marjority rules so if you do an accesment of the real footbal clubs versus the half GAA lads, counting per team because its a vote per team, make sure you get a delegate per team there on the night then itshould be passed.Dont forget it cannot be talked down if it has a seconder.Make sure it is proposed to come into play for next year(May).
Appoint a summer soccer committee to discuss any other minor issues and plan the implemetation for next May with monthly progress reports back to the clubs at delegate meetings(do they still have them??).
Do not allow the threat of country clubs folding to stop you.Various reasons are put forward for this including farmers fields not being available as well as the GAA clash. It was not allowed stop the show in schoolboys despite this early scaremongering.
Lastly stress the fact that flooded pitches is no longer the problem.Long grass is

So basically you need to send a proposal to the commitee in writing A.S.A.P. and all proposals are heard on the night?
Anyone heard about this reserve league?
From what I hear (2nd hand), the 3rd division will be scrapped and the reserve division will consist of only B teams and there will be no promotion or relegation!! Except for current B teams in 1st and 2nd Division who will be relegated. The function it seems is to allow A team players play for the reserves if they need to!
Correct me if I am missing something here.......the Clare league on one hand cancel all Premier games for OT (who get hammered), then fix cup games for the day after and then try to drive any lad who plays for a B team out of the game so an out of sort A team player can get a game. Who are they actually serving?
Or am I wrong and could a reserve league change everything!!!

The reason our club started a second team was as a reserve team to give any player ,who was not choosen in the first team,a game.In other words all signed players were open to selection for the first team.NEVER and I repeat NEVER to only be available for selection for the second team.

If the Clare league did get rid of the sides who have GAA players it would be a massive incentive to players to come back to the league. reason being travelling to moher on a friday evening because they have a GAA match saturday and the boys want to go on the lash afterwards. its a disgrace.[/QUOTE]
There is a clear prejudice here. I notice this site is anti GAA. We have a couple of players playing both codes and are very committed to both. I also think that while moher shouldn't get preferential treatment on what days they play games, many people posting are annoyed a team from north clare can win the league. Soccer doesn't just exist to serve clubs in shannon and ennis.

Dont think people mind a team from north clare winning or doing well the problem here is the fact teams are been made to make the long journeys to Liscannor on friday nights and monday nights why cant they arrange fixtures for sat or sunday so it would be easier for teams to travel. There is no point in a club saying they dont want to travel to Liscannor on those nights as they will be told that is when game is on.

No there is no truth in this. Newmarket had requested this weekend off as 1 of the lads involved with the club is having his stag this weekend, then they find that they are down to play Moher on Monday evening when most of the group are only scheduled to comeback on Monday.
It looks again as this is another indication of Moher receiving beneficial treatment from the League. And before anyone else starts harping on about people having a problem with Moher winning the league, I can tell you no one from Newmarket has a problem with it. If they win the league , good luck to them , but as most would agree the treatment of other clubs by the Clare League in facilitating Moher leaves alot of open questions. Newmarket will fulfil their fixture but with a very weakened side , unfair on the other clubs challenging for the league and also unfair on Newmarket who need points to avoid having the best facilities in the first division.

"The reason our club started a second team was as a reserve team to give any player ,who was not choosen in the first team,a game.In other words all signed players were open to selection for the first team.NEVER and I repeat NEVER to only be available for selection for the second team."
I never implied your club restrict players playing for the A team. My point is that if you are a player not good enough for your club A team and "current" A team players get a run ahead of you to get fit or whatever you would get tired of this and either go elsewhere or give up.
At my club the set up is the same any b team player has the opportunity to make it on to the A team but the reality is that if you are not getting a game you will get fed up, add to that the prospect of no promotion then what is the motivation for a lad who is not A team material........in my opinion this will drive out the honest lads who always turn up on a Sunday morning for a div 3 game as opposed to some of the prima donnas that are around....
I am interested to hear what exactly are the facts, at the moment i think its a bad idea but perhaps once the rules are known it could be the way to go...but all the factors for ALL the players have to be discussed not just the needs of OT and premier teams.

Do you actually know how the whole thing works???. Newmarket have already put their case to Lydon and he has refused...yet he allows Moher play when they want. They do not play ANY sundays because it doesn't suit them. Newmarket did not want a game THIS Sunday or Monday..a one time request...and guess what...they have a match on Monday ...................... go figure that one out:eek:
Sounds like you dont know how it works either pops.It was just a suggestion didnt realise they tried to get it called can the powers of the clare league be overthrown and maybe a democracy can finally rule???

no matter what you do it will upset somebody...its how you do it. Any decisions should be openly discussed, explained and voted for within the clubs an then voted for by the club delegates at the league meetings. Clubs need to decide the fuction of their B or C teams...are they there
1. exist completely separately from the A team and accomdate players of all levels who want to enjoy a game of football. Including ex A team players who have stepped down for what ever reason.
2. exist to develop / improve players who aspire to play for the A team and help them make the step. Including youth players who might be stepping up to junior football for the first time.
I dont think any decisions can be made until clubs decide the role of B teams.

I'm delighted to hear about this reserve league and hope it happens...
Currently players with Lifford B, well capable of playing in the Premier, refuse to play with the Lifford A. They want to get promoted with their teammates on the B team, which I understand, but they are hurting the club doing so.
Hopefully the reserve league might change this situation!
Why would anybody prefer to play at a lower level than they are capable of playing in the Premier?

The Moher manager is a ref in Clare, is it any wonder they are getting special treatment.
