Newtown 1 Mountshannon 1

Looks like the break in premier games might have come at a good time for Newtown. Only 2 points from last 3 games and 2 of those games were against teams in bottom 3...also 2 home games.

Is the loss of Davy starting to take its toll:confused:

Who scored last night????

In my opinion Avenue are the team to watch. They wont be far off a double again. Amazing they always come into form at this time of year.

strange positional changes last night by newtown

noel donnelan centre midfield & tom o hare centre half

tom o hare scored for newtown & jason streeton gave away a silly penalty for mountshannon equaliser in first half.. must add skinny in goals was very dodgy also dropped a few and let one bounce over his head that nearly went in.. poor match overall with a draw a fair result :ball:

Strange I'd call it desperate to shake it up.It didnt work and should have been changed back during the match.Nonetheless Noel tried his heart out.Terrible penalty as the attacker just needed to be closed down and should have conceded more with that "clown" performance from Skinny.I counted at least 6 howlers from him.If he plays like this for the Oscars we wont have to worry about more premier cancellations.
Does anyone know what language he speaks on the pitch. Its a sort Mandarin,English football and 6Mile Bridge!!!

Once you get out of the back 4 there is no heart and certainly no brain. However should have scored more goals

On that performance the league is over and Bridge Celtic B will beat them in the cup.Very similar finish to last season.

It does look like Newtown are running out of steam at the wrong time of the season, before the Newmarket match they were contendors but it seems the Cup is all they have to play for now.

Townie / Avenue C

Any match report from last night's game against Rineanna. 2 1 was it close or were ye in control for the game.

Ye have a chance of a double still, ye must fancy your chances aginst Rineanna in the cup after last night

To say this about skinny is nonsense,he has a had a great season,He would not be OT keeper otherwise,To call him a clown just shows the respect you have for other people.
No heart and no brain for the rest of the team bar the back 4 is funny,It wasnt just the back four that got newtown on that run in the f.a.i and munster,Everyteam get a bad patch of results and performances as soon as it happens to newtown you seem to throw out alot of disrespect to the team.Hopefully they will get back on a good run so no 1 is called a clown and lack heart and sense.

Break coming at a great time for Newtown because they look as though they have lost interest based on last two games. Management will have a massive job of getting the best out of their team now. Last nite there was no energy, heart, tackles, decent football. At one stage with about 15 mins to go at 1-1 Mountshannon broke from a Newtown corner and only back 4 and Noel Donnelan chased back. The other 5 lads just stood in MtShannon half with their hands on their hips.

Had Newtown given up on the league prior to this match??

Also looked as though the squad is wearing thin, not much subs to bring on??

Mountshannon looked good on the break throughout the match but have a real tough task ahead to avoid the drop, have to fancy Newmarket to be honest!

its Stretton not Streeton and the centre forward played for the peno. That ref is easily conned;) One mistimed tackle from 30 odd matches isn't bad for an "old fella"

You misquoted me.I said"with that "clown" performance from Skinny".I did not call him a clown. But I repeat his performance was riddled with errors. This followed immediately after he was lobbed in the last match!!!Correct he is the OT keeper and deservedly so.So what was that all about last night???

The rest of my comments only reflected what happened and were also reflected in the comments of others on thise site.
Would you be happy if I said Newtown played brilliantly against an outstanding Mountshannon team and if they keep this up they should be awarded the league even if they end up with less points than other teams!!!

no worries...yes he played for it and it wasn't a mad lunge or anything, these
things happen when you are defending constantly and anxious to get to the ball first. We should have won anyway with 3 clearcut opportunities in the second half. We seem to have lost our way a little bit in the last 3 games.
We'll regroup during the OT BREAK and I back us to get back into form for the remaining games. The league is beyond us now but we will have a big say in where it goes, plus were involved in all the cups. Its been a dissapointing week in terms of the league but its nowhere near as bad a season as "suicidal shels" makes out:D

there is still a lot of football to be played and judging the the results from the rest of the year there will be plenty of twists yet before we have champions.

by the way does anybody have remaining games for 'the contenders'......
must be worth a look

lads,
league tables and goalscorers chart has been updated today... missing quite a few scorers from nearly all clubs except Bridge Celtic (surprise surprise)..

The clarepeople printed the chart last time it was fully up to date, so if you would like to know the officially story, start posting the goalscorers from your respective clubs as soon as possible and we'll try have it done while this silly OT break is in action...
When posting please include date of game if you can and full player name(to eliminate errors) -
I'm going to post up the latest goal records for each club on clare league.com, please post goalscorers here and I'll trace through them as they come in. also let me know of any errors.

End to end game, Avenue went 1-0 up after about 20 mins, Rineanna equalised after 35mins (Seamus Considine). Chances for both teams upto to the end, before Avenue got winner (heartbreaking - 2mins to go) from Russell.

Avenue running into right type of form for league run-in, though they still prob need a result or two from other teams to go in their favour

Dont think there is any player who has ever played for Newtown young or old that hasn't recieved the hair drier treatment from the Shelman. Skinny makes mistakes I've said it all along and that aint good for the defenders. I think Newtown need to bring in a few players next year who actually know how to win games and have won trophys all they lack is a few midfielders because without the Davy Wall factor more than a few of the players are being exposed. Only Stretts, Noel, Derek, Tomo and Glen have the balls and ability to actually win tight games. Some of the other players Egan, Dave Devaney as examples are not good enough for the A team. With Park being relagated I think Newtown could cash in. Surely they have 1 or 2 down there who could help them out. :ball:

have you seen park rangers play... they are very poor i did not see any player that would would be a bonus to newtown ..:ball:

It's absolutely ridiculous, one rule for one club and a different rule for everyone else, also Moher's last 4 games all at home:rolleyes: Dont tell me it doesn't matter when or where games are played because it does. Olympic having to Travel to Moher on a friday eve, traffic will be mad busy especially if it's a fine weekend. Also a massive game for Olympic, just a silly fixture to be honest

Your telling me the likes of Kes, Quirkey and Locks would not be possible additions to Newtown. Don't think these players aren't quality even though Park have been relegated. When you get stuck in a rut like that it becomes very hard to play well. I seen them play Bruff and Shannon there was 4 players I'd take from Park.

yep i'm telling you that.. they would only be b team players at most if park still had a decent team .. :ball:

Every year Moher seem to request matches on Mondays and Fridays evenings because of GAA games. It also suits the Clare league cos there is a shortage of refs. You cant blame Moher for requesting games when it suits them.
If the fixture doesnt suit your club then im sure you can request it to be played on Sunday or another evening. In fairness too far away from Shannon for an evening game at 6.30.

so you reckon other teams in clare would be given same options if asked for for monday / friday evenings . should clare league soccer league be going out of there way to help a team just because they have a lot of lads playing gaa at weekends i don't think so

sencond half avenue had more of the ball but were were prone to being caught on a few break aways, rineanna were happy to soak up the pressure, but their fitness(lack of) told in teh end as avenue finished very strong attacking at will as rovers defended their penalty box for a finsih, 2 mins into injury time russell lobbed the keeper( who had had a sound game, good hands good kick outs), deserved 3 points i though but heart break for rovers. if only they can fight like that against moher but i doubt it. as alex ferguson said once when they drew 1-1 v west ham an hammers had niothing to paly for,, their efforts were obscene. looked like rovers only wanted avenue not to win..

It has been a disappointing week for Newtown, Newmarket away is never an easy game despite Newmarket struggling,a local derby n all that.Newtown had enough chances to win the game but failed to take them. Bridge Celtic was a diferrent story as i heard from the Newtown lads Bridge outplayed and were physically bigger than Newtown. Same ol story again from the Moubnshannon game in midweek, Newtown should have won the game quite easily in the end but again didnt take their chances and Mounshannon left with a point. Newtown have hit a bad patch at the wrong time in the season, maybe lacking in confidence and seem a bit short of goals, apart from Cheeky and Ray Quigley. Hopefully they can regroup over the OT break and make a good final push for the league and cup.
