Have you ever won the treble?

Meant to ask about this so many times BE, your footer. Is this just a bit of fun? As you do realise this has been done by LOI teams before on 3 or 4 occasions, Rovers did it at least twice, Bohs once, both clubs LOI / FAI / Shield. This when the latter was a huge trophy.

As far as I know, the LoI didn't exist before 1985.

Breidablik 2-0 up after 20 minutes, so looking like Iceland for Rovers alright

4-0 now, and still not halftime

Rovers may do well not to underestimate these guys

I'd have them favourites the way we are playing.

12 goals in 2 games not to be taken lightly.

Maybe last year Breidablik had a team that could cause some angst to Rovers but a good few of that team have already departed to other Nordic leagues and now one of their remaining better players is off to Belgium having played his last game this evening (scoring 2). There's that and coupled with the fact that these two beaten teams were the pits, literally, about 3rd division Icelandic league level on a bad day. Blik as they are affectionately known by us locals, have the most respected academy in Iceland, re tradition, quality of coaching and style of football, but fielding a senior league winning team happens just once every some years and that year was last year.
Nevertheless their winning performance in Vienna some years ago was a sight to behold, perhaps Rovers are not yet home and hosed.

Iceland may have even been ahead of us in the rankings a few years ago.

There is no may, Iceland were ahead of the LOI but dropped down due to various factors, however
as it stands now, they are out well out of the pre qual stage next year.

There's a possible tie between Dundalk and Akureyri (north Iceland) in the offing, only if they both win their 1st round ties. It's not that long ago since Bohs went to Akureyri and got hammered by Thor, a 2nd division side.
I don't know if I have mentioned that before:)

On euro games ahead, I would expect Connahs Quay to beat the Icelandic team and the winners play winners of Brunos Magies and Dundalk, would like to think we can win both home and away in Gibraltar.

Connah (if we play them and if we don't implode v Magpies) would be a stronger test, but classic case of one round at a time.

Rovers, I think I posted 80% chance winning before, that was obviously poor research, they will have a damn tough game now v Breidabli but Rovers should advance on agg, but it won't be as easy as first thought.

Pats will find it hard in Luxembourg, but Pats also coming into really good form and mid season v pre will be an advantage.

Derry, who knows blowing hot and cold but still full expect them to advance.

Dundalk, be abs shocked if we don't get past Bruno Magpies, but Celtic lost in Gibraltar in 2016. Nothing taken for granted.

RTÉ would cover Rovers in Iceland but someone has taken the batteries out of peter collins to save on costs for R Tubridys salary.

Breidablik have gone in front with two late goals (one of them a superb free-kick from Gunnlaugson) away at Akureyri after being one down for the whole of the second half. Cup quarter-final I think it is.

Home team have got back to two each with another goal in the 97th minute. Extra-time now about to start.

Breidablik out of the cup after drawing 3-3 away at Akureyri. Their penalty shoot-out has been simply dreadful, missing 3/4 and sending two over the bar.

Gunnlaugsson definitely their main man with two goals and an outstanding performance.

Worth noting Akureryi are the side who could well face Dundalk in the next round

I see Breidablik won 5-1 last night. That’s 20 goals scored in their last 4 games. The last 2 without their top scorer who has transferred to the Belgium 2nd tier. They’ll fancy themselves against that Rovers defence.

according to the presser this morning, Jack is fit as are Lee Grace and Gary O Neil but Farrugia wont be fit until second leg.
Trevor is out long term whatever that means.

Could be just smoke and mirrors to confuse the oposition so i wouldnt be surprised to see Jack not playing and or Farrugia making it.
At least the way its beiong discussed would imply they will both be available for the second leg.

Suppose it is really, but then again LOI tv is €7, probably more overheads. However just saw Pats away in Lux is costing €27 match ticket (at the game) most seats - that's just mental. FAI Cup Final premium was €25-30.

Our game in Sunny Gibraltar (match ticket) cost a very fair GBP10.00, now that's good value.

sbgawa
10/07/2023, 10:07 PM
Our tickets are ridiculously cheap. Barstoolers pay €500 to go.and watch one group of mercenary milionaires play another group who wouldn't **** on the fans if they were on fire.

Not looking likely due to no interest on the Luxembourg side but Pats seem to be doing what they can to sort out rights/streaming for the game.

Baffling why they're so difficult about it, same when Bohs played them a few years ago. If you have a decent Internet connection, and a decent camera, streaming is insanely easy these days but these lads can't be bothered putting in the bare minimum effort it seems.
