Bloody hell they just can’t seem to pull away.

Mightn't need to - now 3-3! (72 mins)

Wasteful from KuPS, not that theres any complaints, but pinging 3 balls in to the keepers arms, long shot also with time to play. Lacked composure tbh.

Could this spark Derrys season in to some life. Performance from Duffy, stood up to the pressure and scored goals!

Derry through!

And off to northern Kazakhstan this day next week. Andrei Kanchelskis is their new Football Director; I suspect they've a few quid

Still, it's a bright spot in a crap season.

Well done Derry. Flying the flag as we speak.

Kazakhstan is very beautiful but also very massive. The south is stunning but the north is dull flat steppe land.

Beer is cheap though :D

FT. Lacklustre from the home side but who cares. A brilliant performance from Derry City but for a couple of defensive glimpses.

Bring on the Kazakhistan team who, by the way, beat Honka of Finland 2-1 in an earlier round.

Now it´s up to Dundalk to complete the double tonight.

Aarhus take an early lead on Club Brugge - but still 3-1 down

Winners face Dundalk or KA next

Dundalk v Club Brugge could get ugly tbh

Congrats to Derry. Always felt they had goals in them now that players have returned from injury. Tobol will be an interesting one. Free hit really.

Posted this on Twitter. We could lose 4 from 4 against Icelandic sides. That would give them 1.333 towards their Co-efficient this year. That is more than we have earned overall. Depressing stuff.

In further micro-state UEFA co-efficient news, the perennial Andorran competitors, Santa Coloma, have eliminated Sutjeska of Montenegro, and will now face AZ Alkmaar in Round 3 of the Conference League qualifiers.

While slightly predictably, if not as much fun, Hibs are 3-0 up at halftime against their Andorran opposition (4-2 on aggregate

A goal apiece in Trondheim in extra time - Rosenberg take the lead but Crues equalise within minutes

Not watching the Crues game but it looks like the scorer was sent off for a 2nd yellow. Did he get booked for celebrating the goal?

Dundalk equalise. Crues with a man sent off and you can imagine it'll be backs to the wall for the last 15 or do of extra time

Haverfordwest v B36 is another interesting tie tonight - winners play Rijeka or Dukagjini (Kosovo). B36 2-1 up from the first leg

I was at their first leg vs Giljani the evening after we played Dudelange. Physically powerful squad with decent pace, they looked a better side then us and Dudelange.

Dundalk can get these 2 goals. Not making opportunities count with some poor set pieces. They are also causing their own problems when they do break, quick feet where the ball sticks and there is a sense of Dundalk scrambling a defence too often. If they players respond to the managers half time rollicking and get the next goal, that building of momentum could carry us over the line....we can hope!

Derry are the only ones to come out of this

Well they got the 2 goals they needed but their kamikaze defending has cost them in this tie.

Poor results indeed. I think they have just done their homework and stifled us tactically not that is a major task. Miss Benson in these types of games where he can drive the team forward and not just play across in front of their defensive setup and then to the flanks and cross. Too predictable and laboured. That they doubled up on O'Kane from the start shows where they saw risk and thats where the threat was regardless. Hoban not himself at all, must not really be fit unless there was some tactical change, less dropping deep in trying to chase the tie.

ger121
03/08/2023, 8:47 PM

Dundalk... The 2016 vintage era seems very far away now. Wet paper bag defending, poor first touches, and a good 150 aimless crosses to nobody, over two legs against not the best team in Iceland. Hockeyed 5-2 on aggregate. Technically outclassed.

Slightly surprisingly, we're still ranked 32nd after all that, though it's getting tighter. In fact there's three countries level in 32nd, of which Latvia have a team in the CL path of the Conference League, which should be easier to get points from.

Behind us, Finland have at least four games to come as HJK are in the CL Europa League path and probably favourites to reach at least the Conference League groups. Kosovo have a match against the Gibraltar champions next, Kazakhstan have three teams left (including Tobol against Derry, and Astana who have at least four matches left and should make the Conference League groups you'd imagine)

Even the Faroes have two teams left, one of which has four qualifying games and a group stage to come. Group stage gives a bonus point by itself and then carries double points.

We could be looking at finishing this season around 36th - which is where we finished last season too, but (and I think we've done this before) we dropped a bad year five years ago off our coefficient only to replace it with another bad year. That's on top of the questions being beaten out the door by sides from Iceland and Luxembourg raises

I don't know what to make of Derry's chances next week. Tobol were a bit lucky to beat Basel - who had two players sent off and conceded three goals in 15 mental minutes at home. But they got back level in Kazakhstan early enough yet Tobol not just held on but scored again to win it.

Derry v Shakhtor Soligorsk is the game that stands out - one where you thought Derry had a chance but they got stuffed instead. But hopefully they can set least get a home result

UCD v Derry postponed this week.

Another random LoI link - KÍ of the Faroes play Molde next. Sivert Gussias of KÍ is ex-Molde - scored for them against UCD in the Youth League in 2017. Leo Østigård (now Napoli) scored the other two. Erling Haaland scored in the shoot-out. Three others are playing top flight in Norway or Sweden. Neil Farrugia is the only player of note from the UCD team. Conor Kearns, Joe Manley, Mark Dignam also played.

Mad the difference in careers between two sides who needed penalties to separate them then.
