Titanic performance by Dundalk after the sending off. Boyle put in one of his best performances of his career - Muller picked a great time to come good.
Rovers badly missed Byrne and Gaffney. Burke looks very poor, although Burt was very good when he came on. You'd feel a bit sorry for Kenny. If he just scored, he would be a hell of a player. You could imagine him somewhere else banging in goals. Sean Maguire stuff before landing at Cork you would be hoping.
Feel if the game was played for another hour, Rovers still wouldnt score though.

Don’t feel sorry for Kenny at all … from day one with us he’s missed a string of chances and tonight summed him up… also he gives off an attitude of arrogance/self pity which needs to be stamped out…. Hope he comes good but needs to very quickly…. Anyway hopefully we can struggle over the line in the league but doubt we will..,, then Bradley needs to figure how to rebuild and bring in the right players ( aside from Clarke last Summers signings haven’t performed- ie Kenny and Burt who was beyond useless again today).

Will Longford-Pats be the first tie of the weekend which will require extra-time?

Thought Burt was dangerous when he came on. Burke - what has happened to him? Just injuries? Was awful tonight. For a lad with some Irish caps, he should be much better.

No. No it will not. Oh well, good effort from Town.

Yeah, nervy enough for long spells, though we were always on top, but Longford always looked capable of getting something, which transpired. We got a couple of breaks then, with the peno and the sendings off. The result the main thing, and it’s great to get through. Great to get Joe Redmond back on the pitch too.

We were poor for a lot of the game but things went enjoyably mental in the last 15 minutes or so.

Longford have a serious disciplinary problem, 9 red cards after today which includes ones for Gavin Peers and Stephen Henderson. These things start at the top.

I actually thought Burke was one of our better performers….. and Burt added zero …. That’s the joy of football we all have an opinion and we’re all always right !!
As for Burke not being his best season and tonight a rare start ( down to injuries) so he’s never really got going this season …. We could do with him hitting his stride for league run in

Fair enough comment. Jack Brady's been sent off twice alone. I haven't seen all the red cards but it is an obvious issue.

Thought Longford were very competitive from the parts of the game I seen, would have like to have seen how it would have panned out if they had'nt conceeded nearly straight away after equalising.....

I feel a bit sorry for Kenny, it was an awkward bounce off the pitch. Still a bad miss of course but not laughing stock level.

If he'd scored one of his other 4 I'd find it easier to forgive.

Thought Longford made a good account of themselves today. Pats appeared to be playing in first/second gear for the majority of the game it was pretty flat stuff both on the pitch and in the stands but Longford defended very well for the most part in fairness and created 3 or 4 good chances in the game. Jack Brady in goal had a great game too until his sending off in injury time. As they say, result is all that matters in the cup, looking forward to Tuesdays draw now

Enjoyable match in Longford tonight. I'd actually caught Longford a few times prior to tonight. They had been the better team in each of those matches and hadn't won a single one of them. Only a slight variation tonight as they weren't exactly the better team but they certainly played well and created plenty. A couple of very silly moments from their centre halves knocked them out of the contest. They're almost quite a good team and they're quite easy on the eye but there's always something. I'm not sure how Longford fans feel about this group.

Disgusting behaviour, hope he is named and shamed, abs dxxxhead whoever he is.
On the game, this was just an amazing performance, when I saw our line up I could understand Hoban and Annsely not in panel (to an extent with one eye on 300k to earn from europe), but christ I thought it was curtains when I saw the Rovers xi.
Yes we dug deep, Andy Boyle possibly best ever DFC performance or at least back to 2016 mode, but christ you had to be there to witness the wave after wave of constant Rovers attacks for most of the second half amazed we stood firm but we did, what a result, and what a shift the team put in esp with 10 men for 60 mins. If we had conceded and it ended in a draw no way we would have held out.
Really impressed I have to say, surprised too, its been a great 3 days for the club.

Ah he should be scoring that L, yes its a different bounce v grass but he was on the pitch long enough to have seen what it was like, for me its up there with the peno in the Glentoran game and the OG by Lux keeper v Pats.
I don't think its laughing stock level, just an amazing miss really, but he wasn't alone, the level of mis-firing tonight by Rovers attackers was just off the scales, almost every time they broke free of our defence they either shot wide or straight at our GK Nathan.

Ah that OG was another level altogether. One of the funniest I've ever seen. Thanks for reminding me of it. Needed a laugh.
And yeah we've forgotten how to put the ball in the net thing. Actually created chances tonight which was a nice surprise. Just brutal. And the defending for your goal was comical. Kenny's attempted headed clearance was almost as bad as the missed header at the other end.

AFAIK the Bar and carvery are open but they don't appear to be offering rooms as they are housing Ukrainian refugees.
Longford must be one of the hardest places to find somewhere to stay.
I booked a room in the Westhouse Cafe, on the way to the ground, only for them to say it wasn't. Went up the road to Tarmonbarry and got a room(and good night) in the Bar there. also there's only 2 Taxi drivers work Saturday evenings in Longford, so difficult if you don't have a car.

Went out for a few pints after a game recently, mate ended up walking home 10km. Dangerous thing to do but impossible to get a taxi and this was long before night clubs emptied out. Then you'll hear local politicians pleading with you to support local. Nonsense.

A proper cup tie in Longford, town played out of their skin. Probably unlucky not to bring it to ET. Hand's red was never a sending off. Brady obviously had to go. If you look at the pen, Lonergan knows exactly what he's doing too but Walsh should never get in that position. Poor clearance by Hand for the goal but those mistakes aren't punished at FD level that's the difference. Really enjoyable game, great Pat's crowd but not a peep from them which was surprising

Hand's red card was stone wall, elbow right in the mush.

Wee spot of bias there I think - was at the match as a neutral and Hand's red card was the simplest sending off I have seen this year.

Haven't seen a replay of any of the incidents to be honest but in real time my reading of the Hand one was that it was a 50/50 ball with 2 lads going full blooded for it and Curtis got there before Hand. Didn't think it was malicious or any intent to do Curtis in it and certainly didn't think there was an elbow involved but maybe the highlights will prove me wrong. No complaints about the Brady one.
We played well in general and thought we deserved our equaliser when it came. However, our defending that led to the Pats penalty was completely shambolic. Hand switched off from the ball down the channel and didn't realise the Pats player was behind him. Then Walsh trying to take a touch and play football in the box was a recipe for disaster. Should have just cleared his lines first time and get reset.
Incredibly frustrating to give the lead back to Pats immediately after scoring. Would have been nice to have a rattle at them in the last 10 mins at 1-1 because I thought we were well on top for the 10 mins or so before we did score. Obviously Pats were well below their best throughout but that's what we needed to happen to have a chance. A good performance from us and hopefully we can continue that level to the end of the season.

A fairly drab game at the Brandywell yesterday, with two late goals putting a gloss on the scoreline.
Fairly impressed with Athlone's defending, they didn't make it easy. Did virtually nothing going forward however, and never looked like scoring.
Lovely goal from Duffy at the end, with a great pass from P McEleney.
An almost pre-season feel to the match, but sandwiched between two ECL matches, it'll do rightly.

Hand was already booked wasn't he? His challenge on Curtis was at the very least worthy of a yellow so can't really argue with him being sent off.

Yeah, that was my bad on Comms, as I saw the ref I initially reach for the yellow and then his back pocket I jumped the gun thinking he had already been booked without looking down at my notes, he hadn't been booked so incredibly unlucky to be sent off. It was a yellow card at worse.

Its a harsh red card looking at it again,Curtis is quicker and has the momentum going forward to get the ball and Hand kind of jumps but there's no intent to hurt him, looks worse than it actually was....

100% it was a horrific collision but watch it back, Hand tucks his elbow in, he brings he knee up to protect himself he doesn't lead with elbow or studs. Yellow wouldve been more than enough

To be honest we have only recently strengthened/added to our squad. We are playing an awful lot better than at start of season. Whitmarsh being injured a huge loss to us. First sending off was harsh imo but i think Jack Brady deserved to go. He was easily MOM for us closely followed by Boudiaf and James Doona. Based on what I have seen if we dont lose any more players to sendings off we should reach platform of the playoffs. Discipline is a big worry all the same. Proud of our performance!

Yeah, I really enjoyed Longford's performance (not for the first time this year) and didn't mean to re-rail the thread into yet another refereeing debate. A very good footballing team who sabotage themselves and leave too often without the result their general play deserves. It wouldn't take much for this team to turn into quite one of the division's best if they stay together. If.

Derry v Pat's really opens the draw up more for a smaller club to reach the final.
We beat Galway away this time last year but not feeling it'll happen again.
Cork v Waterford is potentially a great tie. Can Bray be a banana skin for Dundalk? Unlikely I think, but overall it's an interesting draw
