RTE have Rugby World Cup games on the Friday night, Saturday at 14:00 & 16:45, Sunday at 16:45 & 20:00. Virgin have the Ireland match on the Saturday evening too.

Maybe Virgin will take one of the Semi Finals on Friday night and RTE take the other one at around 14:00 on the Sunday. Or maybe RTE could go with the Saturday night slot but I can’t imagine they’d go head to head with Ireland playing rugby

Not sure, I think they usually agree on how many games they show in a year (approx 18 games I think but that might not be up to date for 2023) and they usually show the semi finals and final as 3 of the 18 but as mentioned in the thread, in 2021 they only showed one of the semi finals due to some sort of scheduling clash which I can’t remember off the top of my head

It funny that all 4 clubs are probably happy enough with the draw.

Both stadiums will be full and look great on TV. Having the underdogs at home will even up the contest somewhat.

Given how average Dundalk looked it's given me real belief that there isn't too much between GUFC and the mid table premier teams.

We got over 6k for a game against Galway last July in the first division
5500 for the final game of last season against Bray. I cant remember but assume that was the trophy presentation night.

I think they gave us about 3-400ish last season when we had a chance to win the first division.

Capacity is 4,300 under licensing, even though ground can safely take more than that.
Likely to have around a 10% allocation for away fans which might include ‘buffer zone’ seats so probably in the region on 400 tickets for Bohs

I'll be needlessly fussy on this comment - if the SHC could safely be increased if it was able to. If I recall there are limited turnstyles to open for emergency egress, and a fairly small concourse for fans to exit to (behind clubs rooms) and then to walk to the concourse of the 2nd(main?) stand. In an emergency x number of people need to be evacuated per y time and the capacity is reduced until this requirement is met, So it cant really be said that the ground can safely take more, only that it can take more. If remedial work is done then the full safe capacity increases to actual capacity level. Achievable and if there is a solid attendance average next season above 70% that it would be time to conssider a third stand in an already good ground that I like going to

Galway are really snookered with the location of the ground. Having all exit points straight out onto the Dyke Road would probably mean there's not a whole lot extra can be put there without buying up part of the land the water works is on or some of the houses out the back end of the ground for a new access point.

Although ultimately everyone ends up on the Dyke Road there are 4 main exits from the ground itself.

The double gates onto Dyke Road beside the clubhouse, the away fans entrance at one side of the old stand, the home fans entrance at the other end of that stand and then a gate to the carpark from the side the new stand is on.

I'm not sure what is looked at by the Health & Safety officers but I would imagine something could be done to meet requirements for an increased safe capacity which wouldn't be too drastic.

I'd imagine the carpark could be used as an emergency evacuation point but again I don't know about these things.

It's not something that's going to be resolved before the semi-final and probably not before next season, and as someone has said it's no harm having a somewhat restricted capacity to build the hype. All the talk from both sets of fans since the draw is how and when are tickets going to be distributed. Next season in the League there could be a few games which will be sell outs or close to it and if we're doing well there could be the case that most home games are close to sell outs.

We're probably lucky in that having the Waterworks located next to the ground means there is land there which possibly could be purchased if a new stand or access route was required and potentially a car park could be built on the other side of the Dyke Road - I would imagine residential planning on that side of the road would be nigh-on impossible due to flooding risk.

I should have said “comfortably take more” as opposed to “safely”, but at the same time, there are 4 main exits as JC GUFC says, as well as turnstiles, but yeah, “comfortably” take more was what I should have said

Exactly and hence the size of a concourse/carpark/street at egress points being a big consideraton. In a panic situation, evacuating people from one place to where a large crowd is quickly gathering could be as much a concern as the reason for a rapid evacuation and when packed crowds panic its truly terrifying to state the obvious and when people turn around and head back toward the evacuated area, which they when the see a crowd congested area will do and well then yer up against multiple flash points. The picture shows perectly the potential choke points outside.

I have a quiet nervous smile whenever I see evacuation drills carried out, everyones nice and calm and stream out in a nice orderly queue. If you want to see how real crowds will behave, have 4000 people in ED Park and announce that the first 100 people out through the emergency exits get a free season ticket next year, or even a few free beers, never mind €500 or whatever, and then ye get something like a real emergency crowd profile!!

Ive mentioned on here before that this sort of thing is something I do have a particular interest in, seen things Id rather not have related to such stuff in the day job and am fussy to a fault on the topic - and I hate retrspective rather than proactive action on potential emergencies ala Grenfell Towers stuff. - too much information but hey.

The good thing is that there is scope to increase SHC from what I can see. Looking for right of passage in event of emergency evacuation . through that nice piece of green land between housing at the rear of the Main Stand and that green area behind tv gantry stand. Maybe egress only is possible via those housing areas east and south. Maybe get the paws on that parcel of land at club house end, move grounds interior car park to there and not only is it a big enough rally point away from the ground but the area behind that goal would be ideal for installing a modular stand (with addition exits tha end).

Galway still being in the cup surely mean that there is sufficient relevence to this thread rather than stadium development one.....

That also could be an issue at the new Finn Harps stadium when ever its up and running (sometime in the 2050's I'd say)

On the basis that far more people are going to want to go to the semi final than will be able to. Roughly 400 away tickets.... twitter will be alight with complaints from individuals who don't get tickets. I'm a member and I'll be logging in the second they're available but given that I did the same for the Drogheda cup game and was unsuccessful, I'll be unlikely to get there. Reasonable chance that away fans will try snap up home tickets too and all the fallout that creates. So yeah... we're sort of, possibly, just about, loosely on topic (maybe).

There was fair distribution of tickets in 3 phases
1 Season ticket holders
2 Co-op members
3 Home fans on Monday night 2 per person an all phases

Tickets totally sold out now unfortunately none available to sell on Friday nights game
Some fans would have missed out but showed the potential of the crowds with 3900 gone in a few hours with 400 to bohs

Neil Doyle is destroying the game. It's edgy and physical was always going to be that way, that's the way semi finals are. Some yellows given for some very soft challenges. The red was the worst decision. The lino was close and should have saw that and intervened.
