If Dundalk finish 5th and dont win the cup I will back you fully on this!Unless a team lower than 5th wins the cup, meaning 4th will miss out as well!

That would be a glitw moment alright. 4th and 5th place playoff for a place in Europe and then drogs win the fai Cup....

if one of the top 3 dont win the cup, and Dundalk finish 4th and dont win the cup I will back you fully on this!
Dya know sbgawa, I laughed at that as it could actually have happened in LoI and the FAI solution would have been fun - taking a place off the 3rd place team (cue the court appearances) or deducted points from the 3rd placed side for complicating their best laid plans, which would then put that 3rd place side in a European play-off spot but not allowed to be involved (back to the courts), Delaney would have found a way to get Waterford in the mix (everyone goes to court)......maybe we should never over complicate things like this!!

Just wondering are there any replays any more in the cup or do the QF and SF now go straight to ET & Pens?
Not a bad draw for us and it will be a good gauge of how we're fixed for next season I think. Dundalk definitely slight favourites but it wouldn't be much of an upset if we won. With their Galway connections it's probably an easy sell so hopefully we'll see a crowd of 3k+ for it.
We've actually faced Dundalk more often than any other club in the cup - this will be the 7th tie against them - they have qualified on all previous 6 meetings. Twice we managed to bring them to a replay but lost on both those occassions.

The FAI Cup finals have had good crowds in recent years. A great end to the season. The two Fridays leading into the start of the next season is where a two legged playoff for the final European spot could fit in. A high profile start to the season with a big prize on offer.
The First Division playoffs have given the First Division a lifeline in recent years. Treaty still have hope of making the playoffs.

Start of the next season for a playoff where there’s hundreds of thousands of euros at stake that will decide your budget for that season. I don’t think there should be a playoff for the European spot as it is but that’s ridiculous.

What prize money are Pat's receiving for losing in the first qualifying round and when do they receive that prize money?

If Pat's and Sligo had started this season 2023 with a playoff for the final European spot, the winner would have been disadvantaged in not being able to budget for prize money being received in the middle of 2024?

All very quiet on here for the cup.
Expecting close to a full house for Galway United.
Thinking the same re very little build up, 8 clubs are potentially 90 mins away from the semi !
Dundalk have a very tough game in Galway, two good performances in stages v Rovers away and Derry at home, but losses, could go either way, I think our experience will see us just about squeeze past.
Pats should be far far too strong for FH, but the home side won't roll over.
Cork City, anything less than a 2-0 win and I`d be surprised, but Wexford only a point off 4th spot in FD, so maybe they will go for it, why wouldn't they.
Drogs v Bohs, such a tough game to predict, Bohs obv favs and a better side and in good form, but Drogs are so well set up at home, I have a sneaky feeling they might just cause a wee upset but it would be a surprise at the same time.

We've rolled over against any half decent team we've played this year so I can't see that changing. I go in hope but can't see anything other than a facile Pat's victory
Tonight’s game is a sell out. I give us a big chance tonight especially if we can get one of our full backs fit for tonight.

No sure what to expect tonight. The mood among harps lads seems gloomy so I’ll take encouragement from that. In the cup getting into the round is all that matters so I’ll take any sort of win tonight.

I'm assuming a Bohs v Pats final at this stage, wiht Bohs edging it.
Though that will probably turn out to be completely wrong.

If Harvey Norman starts with McGrath suspended it’s game on.

You’re underestimating how bad Norman is , one of the worst CB’s for us in recent years. I’m expecting a win tonight but don’t think it will be a pretty affair.

Ara will you give over. Like a Kerryman before an All Ireland. Pats are going to thump a sorry Harps team into further crisis.

Strange the red card we got last Friday does apply,do they make a distinction between a straight red and 2 yellows?

Even more weirdly, Dundalk have conceded more goals against Galway tonight, than Kerry have in the H2Hs subsequent to the infamous 9-1.

The general thinking was the cup would get overshadowed by Derry vs Rovers. Not sure about that at the moment.

Can't stress enough just how bad we've been so far. Harps look more likely to score a 2nd then we are to get an equaliser.

Told yas. Even when we've won recently we've been poor, was hoping tonight might be a chance to click into place a bit but I expected more of the same honestly.
In saying that the goal did look well offside, but can't complain too much based on the performance and balance of chances. Hopefully a wake up call for the second half.

Brave effort from us tonight, thought we competed well for the most part, needed to start the second half better though and gave away a stupid penalty instead,Pats were distinctly unimpressive though,Bohs will fancy their chances to win it now…

Haven’t played particularly well since before Europe. When he first got the job , Daly got an initial reaction but it has gone back to the Clancy era stuff in recent times. I’m delighted to be in the hat but the terrible performance tonight doesn’t bode well that we could win the thing. In fairness to Harps they should have been two up at half time then the cat was truly amongst the pigeons.
