He deserves this to tail spin badly, he deserves to end up like Grealish who will likely turn 24 in the Championship thank f*ck. No problem with dual lads, know plenty, but don't learn the anthem, kiss the badge knowing this was brewing, give the interviews he gave, and then swap that for money, & swap it for money over family at that. He's nowhere yet, still early days, and hopefully he doesn't get there at all.

Those quotes from his father originated in the sun, but the story has been taken off their website.
Read into that what you will

I don't put any weight at all on the story.

I'd like the FAI to remove him from the squad page.

TBF they have removed Grealish

The most upsetting part of this whole fiasco is it means Paul O'Shea is able to say I told ya so.

On both player occasions sadly :/

It gives me no pleasure to tell you(and your cronies) I told you so

Bar wanting him to play for Ireland I would love a change of heart / rejection from fifa to occur in order to stick the fingers up at Gary Lineker and David Gold amongst others for rubbing all this in our face and just for being ****s.

On the positive side after Brexit he will be ineligible to play in the UEFA Champions League or other UEFA competitions unless Mrs May can sort something out :)

Presume that's tongue in cheek. Might mean an extra place for Irish sides but I suspect English clubs will be able to take their place in the competition, much like Russian and Israeli teams have!

Of course. It is not an EU competition.

David Gold is a natural c**t. Lineker merely has an eye for c**ting.

A two-footed, over the top tackle to both of them. Figuratively. Bants!

Please do. I'm actually so bloody incensed over this lad. Grealish was at least demonstrably a ****. This lad seemed one of ours. God it's terrible.

Personally I think anybody who has ever played for Ireland at senior or underage should remain in the Ireland forum. They're a part of our history and we should be able to discuss them as such in the relevant forum. I know the Rice situation is pretty raw right now though, maybe it should be just locked for a while and allowed fall down the pages.

Crowley moving over and back from World Football is a good example of how pointless it is. It's simpler to leave them all here and there would be less inconsistencies (why wasn't Patrick Bamford's thread moved to World Football, for example?).

This was all discussed when Grealish's thread was moved: https://foot.ie/threads/205422-Crowley-Grealish
I'd forgotten about Bamford's thread, but it should have been moved as well
Crowley seems to be a unique case - a thread that was started on an underage player who switched to England and has now switched to Ireland

Everything Rice does for the rest of his career is going to be irrelevant to Irish football, and so will any discussion on his career. Why should it stay in this folder?

Should have been gone they day he announced it tets, this is our happy place, the Ireland section. Our escapism. That p*ick in here is like watching your ex dancing with someone else while you order triple Jamesons to cope.

Because he's a former Irish international, same as these guys - https://foot.ie/threads/107348-Irish-International-Players-And-Important-Thread-Links?p=1071466&viewfull=1#post1071466

It's my view that all current and former Irish internationals should remain in the Ireland forum, it just makes more sense to me as they're a part of our history, whether we like it or not. If Rice is to be discussed on foot.ie in the future, it'll either be in the written or unwritten context of him being a former Irish international. I don't think anybody is going to be discussing his English or club credentials in isolation, the way one might with Gerrard or Lampard, who obviously belong in World Football.

Plus it reeks of "Betray us and you'll be banished to the cobwebs of World Football".

:D

I do get this point of view as well. We got over Grealish though and we'll get over this. Would anybody really care if the Grealish thread was in page 42 of the Ireland forum instead of World Football? There might be some interview with him at some point where he discusses the whole thing, or whatever, that would be of more interest in here than over there.

That's what I did with Grealish's thread, and people complained it shouldn't have been moved, which is why I said I'd let the discussion on the thread die and then move it

I know they're retired, if that's what you're saying. My point was that there's a place in the Ireland forum for former Irish internationals. Rice is a former Irish international.

There is no reason as far as I can see.

It's not like Stephen Ireland for example. I often wonder why people bother updating his thread as his career, since his effective retirement from international football, has had no practical relevance to the national team. However...he did play competitive games for us and doesn't play for another national side.

I don't know if any of them were ever on it but, either way, I'm not sure what that proves. Anyway, I'm really not as fussed as I might appear about what happens to the Rice thread, and I've explained my thinking.

Given MOM by SKY as a gesture to say that 'Declan you are one of us now and made the right choice' sort of rubbish. I don't know why this thread hasn't been moved yet.

https://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2019/0227/1033202-i-didnt-think-for-one-minute-he-was-going-to-join-us/

glad mick said this to him....

However while the Irish boss was grateful to finally get a decision from the West Ham midfielder he admits that it was a short conversation.

"Yes. That’s what he said to me. ‘Mick, it was an honour’ and I said ‘hold on, I don’t want to hear that, if you’re not playing for us then crack on, good luck’.

maybe we could move everything from jbyrnes post at the top of this page over to the Mick McCarthy thread and then move this one. None of this is really all that related to boil in the bag.

Its off topic now anyway, and even on topic doesn't belong in here anymore and I feel there is a clear majority among the guys who use this place every day who would prefer to relocate it.
Even Mick closed the subject yesterday, its done.
