Aren't we discussing Declan Rice?

Not anymore. We're discussing your debasement of DeLorean's stellar reputation, which is far more important.

WHat BS? He was out of the side for ages, that's hardly protecting him
Rice was hardly a nailed on starter anyway. He seemed to benefit from Winston Reid missing a couple of matches but Reid returned for the match following Rice's mistake anyway and Bilic changed the system. Rice may well have been dropped regardless of the error so I still wouldn't see it as a punishment, but clearly it wasn't going to help his chances of retaining his place.

Could be a fairly poisonous chalice but Declan gets the start today for West Ham. Looks like he's part of the 3 in a 3-5-2 to play Man City.
At least it shows Moyes rates him anyway.

Copping crap now and Moyes seemed to use his age as one excuse for losing.

Must have another look at the second goal for City but I think Moyes attributes blame in his post-match interview to Rice for not tracking Silva. He did say that Rice did "very well" and I've seen the West Ham forums where the general consensus is positive.

My comments were based on the West Ham twitter replies to fans who seemed to blame Rice for Silva's goal. Definitely an ongoing learning experience for him

Getting rave reviews for his performance at Wembley tonight. He also picked up a man of the match award (although I'm not sure who selected the particular one he's referring to) - https://twitter.com/_DeclanRice/status/949051878691753985

Wow. Beside Kouyate and Obiang which demonstrates that it isn't a second choice team. Ayew and Hernandez up front and Ogbonna and Reid at the back with Rice. Great to see Moyes give him a lash.

burke is playing as well there seems to be suggestion that burke and cullen were called back to decide if they will sell them in this window. tink oxford was supposed to come back as well from germany but no sign of him today always thought he looked a talent

Took a kick in the face and lost a couple of teeth. Apparently he was mad to come back on even after that.
Oxford likely to stay in Germany permanently. Mochengladbach and RB Leipzig have bids in. Similar position to Rice so you'd have to imagine his emergence has done it for Oxford.

obviously nothing to do with us but cant understand why you would let oxford leave he only turned 19 a few weeks ago surely you look at him as a player to build around at a small club like west ham

England sniffing around - https://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/soccer/declan-rice-attracting-increased-interest-from-england-boss-466314.html
We are aware of him and aware of his situation.
We are always looking for players and he is somebody whom we know. We are across every young player and, of course, there are plenty of young players with dual nationality.
Wales have several players who have been in our system and who have got caps.
It’s more a question for Dan Ashworth as technical director than for me as senior manager.

on Off The Ball last night it was mentioned that Rice corrected a journalist from the London Evening Standard who said something (somewhat sarcastically) "Rice, it's a very Irish name", to which Rice replied "well, yeah, I'm Irish" and that he was looking forward to getting back in with the squad in March

Was Pat Rice one that got away....back in the day he was quite a player for Arsenal . Well a good full back .
Players didn’t seem to have the choice in those days mind .

Born in Belfast, grew up in London. Not sure which side of the tracks he's from in Belfast though.
It's funny that some of us are a bit insecure about Rice. Even the headlines in Irish newspapers are grim and erring on the side that he could switch ("Rice wanted by both Ireland and England"- The Irish Mirror, "Ireland face battle with England"- The Indo, "England may snatch Declan Rice from Ireland"- The Times).
A lot of this is borne out of the Grealish episode. That's all quite funny because Rice happily accepted the first chance to come into our senior set-up (unlike Grealish). Also, he seems to be far, far, far more grounded than Grealish was (and Grealish has gone on to prove this subsequent to the episode).
I'm not as worried about Rice as, in retrospect, I should have been about Grealish. I think we have a cracking young lad and cracking young footballer on our hands. And there doesn't seem to be any hints that he has the same kind of influencers that Greailsh when his father and agent were feeding headlines to the papers.

The Grealish episode will be a cautionary tale i'd imagine. He thought the grass was greener and ended up swapping a Euros for a Toulon tournament

If Grealish had been selected in our squad for Euro2016 who would it have been in place off, Stephen Quinn?

He is playing very well for Villa since he came back from injury. what a super player he is but the heart wants what the heart wants which unfortunately wasn't us.

They had a choice, as far as the rules were concerned anyway. There just wasn't a huge degree of awareness about it and there was no right to switch association once until 2004, so if a player was selected at youth level by the IFA prior to then, he was cap-tied for good.
As for Declan Rice, I have a good feeling about him and wouldn't be concerned. He sounds very keen, committed and proud of his roots any time I've heard him. I think the media are making a bit more out of Southgate's words than is warranted. There's no suggestion or indication that Rice has even had his head turned. Southgate pretty much just said England were aware of the player after, it seemed, he was specifically asked about the player by an interviewer. At least, the way Southgate phrased his answer would suggest to me that someone else raised the topic of Rice to Southgate rather than Southgate just mentioning Rice out of the blue. It would lead me to think that the FA probably aren't focusing on Rice as intensely as the headlines would suggest.

Also mentioned, in relation to Grealish switching allegiances, that there was no mention of English interest in Grealish until he started appearing for Villa's first team, and then articles started appearing asking why he wasn't called into the England setup before this, which put pressure on the FA to do something (anything) about it. With the increased coverage of Rice's performances lately, segments on MOTD were mentioned, is what led to the questions to Southgate. He can't be seen to be weak on this, so had to say, otherwise he'd be crucified in the press.

I'm pretty confident he won't change allegiances, but there's no quotes from the player, or management in any of those pieces. The closest is the word "situation" in the mirror from Southgate when he was asked about Rice last week.

I agree with you Tets. It's been widely-reported but I'm not sure if the basis for the media's confidence is clear in any of the reports. Have no reason not to take it at face value though.

They did, however, have a Ciarán Clark up to U20 (or is it Ciaran?). Quick question - the U21s are in with a shout of making the play-offs for the Euros and have a game against Azerbaijan on March 27th - should Rice play in that game instead of the friendly against Japan? If so, should he still play against Turkey on March 23rd?

Reid and fonte on the bench so he is doing well to be ahead of 2 established premier league defenders they also have let Burke and Oxford go back on loan other defenders who I would have seen as ahead of him at beginning of season
