So when you agonisingly beat us by scoring in the last two minutes of normal or extra-time ( depending on how much god wants to fook with us) in a game we should have one, but bottled it, that'll be your sixth cup ?? impressive

Have been at all the Aviva finals bar last year and have found the athmosphere far better than Ireland matches and most Rugby matches,
The last Derry/ Pats final was a cracker, as was the previous one, so looking forward to it.

Interesting stat raised on DerryCityChat about our cup final jerseys:

1988: Wore specially made Cup Final candystripe jersey - LOST
1989: Wore that season's candystripes - WON
1994: Wore specially made Cup Final jersey (mostly white) - LOST
1995: Wore that season's candystripes - WON
1997: Wore yellow away rig - LOST
2002: Wore that season's candystripes - WON
2006: Wore that season's candystripes - WON
2008: Wore Argentina away = LOST
2012: Wore that season's candystripes = WON

That's some run of finals from Derry. Great cup record. This is our year though.

(No, seriously, stop sniggering down the back. )

Plus Pats not winning the Cup.

The 2012 game was quite something. I have to root out my Derry scarf now.

Great to see it's a tenner again.

It was being advertised at those prices on the electronic hoardings during the Gibraltar game.

Great stuff. Anyone who wants this game away from the Aviva, look at the attendances since Lansdowne was done up. Sure, there was bound to be a steady decline after the first one between Sligo and Shams, but on the whole the attendances have been much better than most during the 00s.

Padraig Sutton will ref the final.

With Rovers needing Pats to win I was hoping it would be Neil Doyle.

hes card happy beyond belief. I think he's give us about 1/4 of all our cards this season in a handful of games. Sent off two or three of our players, sent of a UCD player against us, gave us a penalty against UCD, gave Pats a penalty against us. I think hes sent off a bunch of Pats players as well this season.

3 in 5 league games. Also sent off 2 against us and awarded us a penalty.

The only game without a "major" incident was Derry v Pats last month (Pats won 1-0)

He's not biased or anything, he's just card happy. Averages nearly 5 yellows per game

I don't believe that site is entirely accurate. I was doing a piece on this very ref earlier in the season for our program (which was not printed as I used the term "he dished out cards like confetti" and they were worried of any potential backlash from the FAI") and the numbers didn't add up so I went through every LOI game up to that point game by game, but yeah he gives out far more cards than anyone else.

Will premium tickets go on general sale

Normally do Ive gone to all Aviva finals except last year and was in the premium section, for some reason they always drag their feet on making them available, makes no sense.

Is the premium level worth it (price 40e ?) d24. Was going to go there last year, but changed my mind. The atmosphere would be a bit flat maybe, which I found in Croke Park. However never been there and would like to see what it is like. Advise please

Ok, a cup final to look forward to. A repeat obviously of the 2012 final, when Derry won 3-2 after extra-time. That final had the lowest attendance of the finals played in the Aviva since 2010 onwards. That year, Pat's had finished 3rd and Derry 5th. This year Pat's have again finished 3rd with Derry as low as 8th this time. My understanding is that Pat's have not won the cup since 1961. Having won the league last year, there'll be a craving there for more silverware.

League results this season:
29/08/14 Derry City 0 St Patrick's Athletic 1
30/05/14 St Patrick's Athletic 5 Derry City 2
28/03/14 Derry City 0 St Patrick's Athletic 0

Last two Cup results between the sides:
04/11/12 Final Derry City 3 St Patrick's Athletic 2
03/12/06 Final Derry City 4 St Patrick's Athletic 3

Pat's have had the upper hand in the league this year. Derry have had the upper hand in recent Cup meetings. Extra-time again cannot be ruled out. Pat's seem to have the momentum.

Still no availability on Ticketmaster for Premium tickets they aren't going to open the whole section just for Ireland season ticket holders so no idea why they are taking so long to go on sale.

And long may that record continue.

Serious question though, if ye win the cup where will the angst be sent then?

I've always wondered what it must be like. I mean for Chicago Cubs, Liverpool, Mayo, Toronto Maple Leafs (I am a fan), fans it must be excruciating to think of the aftermath.

I remember the relief after Dublin won the All-Ireland in 2011 and how it manifested as relief more than joy.

I've already decided I'm going to stop following football after the final. A win would mean it's complete and nothing could top it. Another loss would be too much to take.

I wish I could cheer for Pats - but knowing that it would allow Rovers qualify for Europa makes it completely unpalatable.

Any know of the process for using your Lansdowne season ticket for the final?
Don't exactly want the upgrade and would rather just have the lower tier.

Won't work apparently. It's upgrade only.

I'd probably take it if Dundalk were there. At least you can have a few pints whilst watching to calm the nerves.

Will give Ticketmaster a ring in the morning and see the craic.

You'll have to drink them behind the glass window though.
Would rather be down in scum-class having the craic.

The FAI have told the club (Derry) that if you present your Lansdowne season ticket to the ticket van (which is at the junction of Lansdowne Road and Northumberland Road?) they will issue you with a lower tier ticket.
But this is the FAI, so bear in mind that Abbey, SCs, JD's muckers and his next door neighbour's cat will all be in the queue ahead of you.

Will be the first Cup final I've missed in a few years. Enjoy the day out at the venue formally known as Lansdowne Rd. Hopefully will catch a bit of it on the box and I'm going for Pat's to finally break their eternal cup hoodoo.
