Don't ask me why but I picture Jimmy Greaves everytime I see Jack Grealish's name.
An image just popped into my mind.

A snippet from the London Independent which just acknowledges what a talent he seems to be. It also mentions the English might try and get him, how outrageous!

Scored a hat trick on the first day of the Hong Kong Tournament. Update, he has now scored six in the tournament, Villa play Man City in the Final. On the way to the Final, Jack Byrne has scored a goal for City.

His brother posts on ybig. Jack is arguably the most talked about academy talent in England. The fact he hasn't defected is indicative of how Irish he feels, as if anything being an England youth player might be more beneficial for him at this stage of his career.

hopefully he gets called up for the 19s qualifying tournament in june hard to justify leaving him out. surely he will be involved with villa first team squad in pre season.he is very light though. to me he looks a far superior footballer than say sterling or ibe at the pool who obviously have far more pace

Sorry I got it wrong as Villa made the Shield Final, not the real Final! Grealish really is the main man if you read this piece from the Villa site. Surprised he is the only Irish player involved in this tournament, does anyone know why?

No Grealish. So he is good enough to be in a under 21 squad but not in Mr Doolins under 19 squad. Is there an explanation for this? Is it to test his resolve to play for Ireland? When you think of the efforts the other underage managers have put in to welcome Grealish into the set up it is sickening to see Doolin playing the hard man here again. No paul george either hopefully he not injured again

From that article:
Earning a competitive U-21 cap wouldn't fully prevent him jumping ship to his homeland, yet any switch could only happen at senior level.
I don't think that's technically correct, but I'm open to correction and would need to look up the statutes again when I have a better chance in order to be certain. Not attempting to doubt Grealish's commitment - his selection can only be positive for what we hope will be his future with us - but even if he represents our under-21s in competition, such representation would only rule him out for selection by England's under-21s in the same competition, as far as I understand. England's under-21s would still be entitled to select him for a later under-21 competition. At 17, he'd obviously still be young enough for selection by them in future tournaments. In fact, wouldn't they still be able to select him for their other under-age sides as well - their under-19s perhaps - just so long as he was still under the relevant age and hadn't played for Ireland at that level in the same competition for which England sought to select him? Anyway, it's all just theoretical so long as he's happy and committed to remain with us.

Indeed, regarding a player switching association, the Regulations Governing the Application of the Statutes (http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/affederation/generic/01/66/54/21/fifastatutes2012e.pdf) state merely:
8. Change of Association
1. If a Player has more than one nationality, or if a Player acquires a new nationality, or if a Player is eligible to play for several representative teams due to nationality, he may, only once, request to change the Association for which he is eligible to play international matches to the Association of another country of which he holds nationality, subject to the following conditions:
a) He has not played a match (either in full or in part) in an official competition at “A” international level for his current Association, and at the time of his first full or partial appearance in an international match in an official competition for his current Association, he already had the nationality of the representative team for which he wishes to play.
b) He is not permitted to play for his new Association in any competition in which he has already played for his previous Association.
That would still entitle Grealish to line out for, say, England's under-19s or under-21s in competition for which he had not already represented Ireland, even if he had already represented us in separate under-21 competition.

Linked to a loan to Paul Cook's Chesterfield in League Two. I'd be slightly surprised by that after Burke and Carruthers both went to League One, but then again they have first team experience.

He's also said on it, that while Jack has committed to the Under 21's, he's very much undecided about his senior career - even though we seem to be winning the race at the moment - lets hope it stays that way.
So don't get over excited about him being a future full international for us just yet

Third goal wasn't spectacular but showed really good composure to take it around the keeper and the defenders on the line.

He turned 18 this week.He is the best talent at that age we have had since mcgeady broke in around that age at celtic. Think Mcgeady has suffered from obsession with beating players with tricks and pace which he is very good at to be fair but it took him along time to develop a more mature heads up football brain. Grealish does not have Mcgeadys tricks or his acceleration/pace and he completely lacks physical presence but he has a a football intelligence aligned with excellent technical ability that makes his age irrelevent.
Grealish as the number 10 behind a lone striker would with no disrespect to wes bring us to another level. This lad is made for international football and the offensive freedom that allows. Look at alaba for austria the other night he played with utter freedom, no tracking/marking responsibility and no semblence of defensive duty and no concern with losing possesion in an attempt to unlock defences. Grealish is the only talent I can see that we have who has the ability to justify that freedom. And no for all the reasons I said above and on the basis of Lamberts love of pace and power I dont think we will see much of him at villa this season

You have a rare chance to give a lad who has the kind of talent we get once maybe in a generation some competitive game time and have him in the fold nearly a year before the next serious international fixture. Where is the downside?
Charlie Darwin
12/09/2013, 7:20 PM
He might not be physically ready and break his leg, or else he just can't stand the pace, has a shocker and is humiliated, setting back his development. He's a young lad and still trying to earn his place at his club - if he's good enough and physically able, by all means throw him in, but don't do it as a token gesture. I'm not talking down his talent at all, I just think we need to be a bit realistic and say he has exactly 0 games of senior football to his name and throwing him in against Germany might not be a great idea.

And crazy post of the year goes to...........this guy!!! As great a talent he may be how many senior games has he played yet?
How you can make an assumption and elevate him above an experienced PL player like Hoolohan is beyond me. Plus I don't get what you are saying about the Alaba comparision playing for the best team in Europe
Regardless of whether Grealish makes it or not your post highlights the hype and unrealistic expectations that is afforded to some young promising players (Based on youth underage football) and then the shock horror when they don't become a top player because they weren't that good in the first place

Listen if you dont agree fair enough not much need for the melodramatics. I was wondering would he get 15 minutes against the Khazakhstan not start against Germany. In a years time id hope he would be in a position to be a regular starter and I think been in the squad and getting a run out in a competitve game will only aid that development. The point about Alaba was that if you allow your most creative player to have no defensive duties like Austria did then the risk of playing a young player in that position is not that signnificant certainly not for 15 minutes against Khazakhstan. You have to try your best to develop special players and this is one of the rare opportunities we will have to develop a special talent with minimal risk and have him on board for many future campaigns.
