Counted 92 at kick off (about 35 from Limerick) could have balooned to 100 by half time.

Was it really that high Sam ? Seems a very large crowd esp with the poor run Harps are currently on even taking into account 500 Sligo.

One of the tabloids this am had something like 2,185 as the attendance.

That might be more like it.
We should have all been given our money back for that shambles last night!

Thats the same tabloid that came up with 800 at the Derry game. They seem to pick a random number every time.
I'll see about getting the official figure this week.

Cobh v UCD 1154 attendance
Not a chance. 500 tops. Don't care if that's official; it's not going in.

1,154 seems very high alright but I reckon about 850 myself, stand was about half full (450), about 250 on the open terrace with I reckon 150 behind the bottom goal.

pineapple stu
26/04/2008, 4:39 PM
Stand was much less than half full. Back row (of about six) was cordoned off for half of it, and plenty of gaps down the end.

Terrace was largely empty up our end, but a decent clump down the far end.

Didn't really see it properly, but 150 behind the goal sounds way too high; that'd be fairly full.

That's shockingly bad for senior level

Fridays just aren't working there was an honest opinion from fans and members of the club that Fridays would have increased the attendance but its appears to have had the opposite effect. I can't make most Fridays but thought that I would be able to at the start of the season and I know four other fans who are the same.

624 is on extratime.ie- I'd say that's official.
Now I know this is going to sound sad, but I was up at Ferrycarrig Park today 'cos Oldyouth Junior had booked one of the all weather pitches to have a kick about with some friends. While waiting on him to finish, I took a ramble around the ground and ended up counting the seats in the temporary stand:(

To cut a boring story short, there are 609 seats in the stand. Given that most were taken last night, added to the lads who will always man the edge of the pitch and the prawn sandwich/duck liver pate brigade in the clubhouse (you must buy a ticket to gain access), maybe 624 is underestimated:confused:

For the firsgt time in a long time we didn't annouonce an official figure. Reckonit was around 1,300 meself, about 50 from Bray.
Is it that attendances are plummeting so badly that the club doesn't want anyone to know? Wheels are not just coming off, they are off and stacked neatly in the corner.

We had smaller crowds when we were doing well in the First Division!

I'm impressed that any more than 300 would attend a game against Bray (with all due respect to Bray who are doing well this season) especially as GUFC hadn't even got a point at home let alone score a league goal. And don't get me started on the hoofball.

Maybe we will pick up 3 points in the Brandywell next weekend? :D

Do you get the same crowd regardless of who you play? If you do you're probably the only club in the league that does.

Of course the opposition affects the crowd, as does the form of the team. Not everyone is a die hard super fan like yourself.

Indeed I do support my team regardless of the opposition. But others don't. I've been to the Showgrounds on many occassions when there have been over 4,000 people there. Where are they now deecay? The Irish sporting public are very fickle. Haven't you noticed?

Agreed, it was a pathetic attendance for a Dublin derby but I reckon it would've been a lot higher on Friday night. I heard no publicity for the game over the weekend whatsoever. With Munster, Celtic and two epl games on yesterday, the sports departments in our media forgot all about it.

The €3,000 tv fee that Rovers got won't make up for the loss on the gate.

Fair play to Rovers. You could tell something was going on when you saw so many identical scarves on the TV.

Was it sponsored, or did the club pay for it themselves ? Must have cost at least a couple of thousand Euro

That cycle happens every year, and is entirely predictable.

Still - I can't help feel there is a bit more support out there than usual this season. Which if it lasts across the season will be great.

There's no doubt that MNS will deliver mnore supporters to the league. It might only be football-mad young kids who love watching the game and who will pick a favourite team in Ireland from watching the show, and do little more than just keep an eye out for them, but it all helps one way or another.

A good few of mates watch MNS as it was on at a normal time unlike EL Weekly. A couple have been impressed and are thinking of heading along to UCD-Bohs on Friday. I'm sure there's plenty of similar cases all over the country.

Ya there sure is. At the beginning when people where saying it would improve attendances, I would tend to disagree but now i'm convinced that it actually makes a difference. Although the First Division is not shown on MNS, it has convinced two lads that i'm in college with to go to Limerick-Monaghan next week. One is from Galway and the other from Waterford but they have to stay around until Saturday for an exam. After watching MNS, and knowing my huge interest in the League, they asked were Limerick playing that weekend. I'm going to bring them along. (Anything to get away from study i'd say:D)

Possibly Five hundred on the ballybough end and a further 150 in the stand would have been my guess.

Ironic given that rovers only fileld two blocks in the stand at Inchicore for many years...

Moving the game to sunday was always going to have a big impact on the attendance. Rovers filled half of the old stand, maybe two hundred in the new stand and less than 50 on the riverside... hardly a sterling home support now is it?
