Interesting that the biggest increases are outside Dublin with Cork & Derry City combination beating combined total for the four Premier Dublin clubs. Drogs numbers very low even allowing for restrictions (is it 3000 this season). Are Kildare & Monaghan numbers sustainable?

It's a fair question. We have survived on those sort of crowds for years now. The club gets tremendous support from local businesses in the form of sponsorship etc, with much of that money being put into the club at underage level, not just to pay for the senior team. Plus we cut our cloth to fit with the senior team and (obviously) have one of the lowest - if not the lowest - budgets in the division. But the same people have been fundraising for years now and will that source of funds always be there? Plus we are competing for funds with a successful county gaa team now (not knocking them - in the quest for success Banty has recognised he needs more resources and has, quite rightly, gone looking for money)).
Since the Club acquired an 'A' licence we can get a CPO (if we match the FAI's salary grant) and afaik we are going to do so - hopefully that will help crowds. A few decent - and entertaining - home performances would help too.

Not a ridiculous question at all in fairness Steno.

Football is all about the crowds. A club may have sponsors and the like now, but if it's only attracting crowds of about 130 to home games then there won't be much in it commercially for those sponsors - meaning it borders onto charity donations. And that make it vulnerable to the chop at any future point.

I'm not having a go - none of our clubs have great crowds, and it is a credit to County that they can live within such limited means. But you can't blame people for wondering how a senior club can get by on such low attendances. Or how long it can continue to do so (e.g. Kilkenny City).

Probably not dcfcsteve its the way that it was asked that probably got to me more. Agree with all of the above as well.

OT But on a point of order I'm pretty confident we have the lowest wage budget in the league. :ball: :o

Not an official attendance but there was about 2400 at the Harps v Pats game. I am open to correction.

Nowhere near 2400 at Harps/Pats game. I'd say 1800 maximum.

It's in as 1800 alright, but touch wood we'll get the official figure when it comes out in the next programme.

Athlone town vs Kildare County official attendance 296

This is despite being on the radio about 5 times a week, 200 plus posters put up for every match, 6 roadside signs on all approaches to Athlone. We seem to only be getting the hardcore supporter this season

Thats a shame BB especially if all that effort has gone into publicizing the games.New stadium is a grat place to watch a game of football as well.

I'd say about 1300-1400 at the game, very windy and cold evening which prob kept a few fans away, good derry crowd in the seats.

I thought that was very good to be honest. I think there would definitely be another 500 with that at least if the St Annes section was covered.

For a team that didn't have the happiest start to the season I think Cork have had some excellent attendances. Even in the less glamorous games and against teams that would bring small support to the Cross like UCD and Harps the attendances have been over 3,000.

I think most City fans have been surprised too. The only 'big' game we have had was Derry. Unfortunately we only have Pats, Bohs & Rovers at home once.

820 for us according to extratime.ie. I think we may be making it too comfortable for some in our nice dry clubhouse, which overlooks the pitch, though. Maybe we should close it during the game!!!!

I dunno about closing during the game but definitely someone should speak up about five minutes before hand and encourage people to go out and support the team.

That is the biggest load of ****e ever!

There was at least 200 from Galway there....250 being the agreed figure.
A good few Sligo fans came up me after saying we had a hefty support.
80!?!Typical Sligo gobjaw couldn't count to save his life.

Agreed figure by who, there wasnt even 250 in the whole stand (Jinks Avenue side) The stand was divided in two, Rovers crowd the majority with over 100, local youth side Strand Celtic included in that. Smallest away support in the Showgrounds this season besides Cobh.

You're 100% wrong so i'm not going to argue with you.

I know for a fact we had at least 200 because i did a rough count when i was hanging up the flags. There was also over 80 in Mooney's alone before the match.
Sligo IT?

Ah the clever lad, drinking McGarry's xtra strength cider over there must of had you seeing three of everything. I think I know my home ground better than you. There was just over 200 in the Jinks Avenue stand and the bigger section of support was Sligo. So what it seems you are saying is that every supporter in that stand was a Galway supporter.

You must be including players and management people as well and any random Galway people who happened to be in Sligo at the same time as match to bring it up to that.

Sligo normally count crowds in multiples of 1,000, so to round it down,
there were 0 away supporters at the match.

I agree about 2000 at showgrounds last night. I think the Nick Lesson affect is rubing off some of our galway fans, only about 100 there at most, however great support until the abuse of Leech started (thats for another thread). Need to get behind the lads for Bray now, if we win that one we can still save the season, if not in freefall.
