To think we all laughed at the toothless leprechaun hatted builders's labourer in the sky ad with the prophetic tag line
"Don't forget the Irish!"
How right he was.

That last Zimbabwean bowler must have been **** hot.
Zimbabwe Innings
1 for 1 (1.5 overs)
If Zimbabwe can beat Pakistan total they deserve to progress.

Yes. we about to be super eights.
Apparantly 3 of the super 8 games will be played in Guyana
Just when we think we're through and the heavens open and they're off.
Zimbabwe are 30/3 off 10.2 overs
If they don't come back today then they'll resume tomorrow as they are now.
Rain has now stopped but no sign of life
If it rains for 26 hours then they get a point each.

I thought that was bad news for a moment but if continues to rain and Zimbabwe get a point they give them a total of 2 points and Ireland already have 3 so they will be through to the last 8 :D
Even if the rain stops I can't see Zaiimbabwe getting anything they need 320 off 39.4 overs a run rate of 8.12, I can't see them doing that with only 7 wickets left.
Uncork the guinness :D
Match may be continued tomorrow. No chance of anything other than a Pakistan victory
Ireland are through lads
Ireland are through ladsAre you absolutely 100% sure Dodge that theres nothing else that could scupper our progress?
It all looks grand but ever the cynic.
Welll obviously Zimbabwe, theoretically could smash 350 off the last 40 overs with 3 wickets down but its not going to happen...

I'd say Ireland are about 97% through, but we would want to go into the Super 8's with 5 points rather than 0 for second place.

The only thing which could put a spanner in the works at this stage would be any further overnight developments in the Woolmer case which might cause Pakistan to forfeit the game.

NEWSFLASH. Jamaican police upgrade Bob Woolmer death to murder case with strangulation as the cause.

They're going to resume in a few minutes. kevin Curran the Zimbabwean coach doesn't look happy. Appears very gloomy which will help the bowlers. Zimbabwe need another 163 of 58 balls to win. Impossible

The game be played tomorrow, Mugabe dying a horrible slow screaming death tonight (here's hoping either way), Zimbabwe then get special dispensations for the likes of Henri Olanga and Andy Flower to return and play tomorrow and the total get reduced to a manageable level.
Then Zimbabwe might progress. :)

Pity the attendances have been so poor mainly due to the inflated prices for accommodation. Pakistan had some of the most colourful supporters in the last two world cups particularly in England in '99. They even pay some of them at the matches to promote the country. Australia to win.

Impossible is Nothing !
45 for 5.Zimbabwe just threw 2 wickets away in successive balls.
It goes on for another month yet, as it gets near the sharp end, I'd say there won't be many free seats..

Ahem !
Chigumbura just hit 3 sixes in successive balls and then out, now 77 for 6
spots of rain again.

Zimbabwe require another 116 runs with 4 wickets and 27 balls remaining
thats 4.3 runs a ball required, not imposible but close to it.

When it gets to over 6 runs a ball I think they should throw in the towel.

D/L Method ?
Can't believe they're persevering with Kaneira, just gone for another two 6's.
Gone for 48 off 4 overs but just got Sean Williams.
93/7 now.
Edit : make that 94/8

More tragic news from Jamaica, where Bob Kerr, a popular former Chairman and President of the ICU, has died at his hotel aged 68.

Thats Saddening, I must say I did not know of him, but when looking up on him, it is a tragic shame. He would of been proud that Ireland qualified from the group in their 1st World Cup.

Never mind Carthy.
Imagine Michéal Ó Muiricheathaigh
And now at the wicket we have Brían Ó Laoighre, an outstanding exponent of the game. He looks to the left, he looks to the right. Anois, fear cumhachtach don Pakistan, Waism Ackraim, leis an liathróid, racing down toward the crease. Lara lets fly, suas, suas, suas leis an Liathróid, he's hit it high, but he's hit it wide, but in this game, that doesn't matter, because he's hit it out over the boundary, sé don fear gorm Seamécánigh, and the Western Indies are chun tosaigh anois, the Western Indies of course being a good deal to the West of the Aran Islands and the Blaskets, but any of you listening to this game on Inishvickilaun, you'll be sure to feel that they are only a sliotar's puck away now. Well, while I've have been talking, a young man in the crowd has thrown down the willow ball to the waiting Pakistani fielder, the willow is a noble wood - not nearly so noble of course as our own ash, noblest of woods that it is, but a noble wood nonetheless..........

In the unlikely event that we beat the West Indies would that change our super 8 schedule? Presumably that would mean we top our group.
It might just happen, super confident Ireland versus a relaxed Windies, ya never know. Who'd have though we'd get this far (or the the cricket world cup thread would have nearly 450 posts)!

In the unlikely event that we beat the West Indies would that change our super 8 schedule? No. The places in the Super 8 were allocated to the 8 seeded teams (Pakistan and W Indies in our group) before the world cup started and any other team that qualifies will just take the place of the seeded team they replace (Pakistan in our case).
