England are like their soccer team. Deeply unimpressive in WC finals yet somehow remain in with a shout until late on.

That's England ok. Even won the one day tournament in Australia having been hopeless for most of it.

Who knows.

Best we can hope for is 7th above Bangladesh.

NZ look to be struggling against Sri Lanka today.

40th over: NZ 154-6

Comfortable enough victory for Sri Lanks, always in control when batting.

Now, to the biggest game of the tournament do far:

Australia v Ireland

;)

Seeing as we're in the Carribean, I think Voodoo is possibly our best chance of keeping it respectable today.

Will we make it through the first powerplay:confused:

EDIT: Will we make it to 10 runs never mind overs?:(

What a strange over. 45 the target to beat for lowest score vs. Aus in the World Cup (36 lowest score overall).

34/5

I'll get these stats in now, just so Ireland fans can celebrate when the landmarks are passed:
Lowest score in a World Cup match: Canada's 36 v Sri Lanka 2002
Lowest score in a one-day international: Zimbabwe's 35 v Sri Lanka 2004
Shortest innings in one-dayers: Namibia's 45 all out in 14 overs v Australia, 2003

We've got Bermuda's 78 runs against Sri Lanka and 21 overs against Bangladesh in the first round to beat so we're no the worst in this WC.

60-7 18.2 overs

Some fella by the name of Extras is 3rd highest scorer for Ireland. :(

Reaching the ton would be huge achievement now. Match will be over before lunch?

72-8 now. While hammering. In fairness Australia have been absolutely sh*t hot in this tournament.

80-9 now, Mooney 19 n.o. Pretty impressive.

Has Jeremy Bray got more than 1 run in any match so far?

82/9 now ... still at the end of the day lads... Australia are world class and to get that much is damn good!!! :)

Stutts did you miss the zimbabwian thriller? he hit a 100+

What has Symunds got on his lips? war paint?

I think a top team would have struggled against that bowling attack.

Now to create the biggest shock ever.

pete
13/04/2007, 4:05 PM
Since Bray scored 115 he has averaged 7.6 from last 6 matches. I think 3 runs in last 4 matches?

The Red and White Army are still giving it lilty.......

Very good. Nice picture of the flag.

So who is going to win (besides Australia) ? New Zealand?

DmanDmythDledge

I reckon it will be between Australia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka. I fancy New Zealand for some reason...

Jeremy Bray on 7 against Bangladesh. More than 1 run!! Its a miracle!! Ireland on 23/0 after 5 overs. Nice start.

pete
15/04/2007, 2:41 PM
55-0 15 overs.

Porterfield going well but Bray only on 11 runs off nearly6 overs.

Bangladesh have been poor in the field given up some soft singles.

80/0 after 22 overs now, good to see the two openers hanging around for a while. Fingers crossed, we should get a good total.

pete
15/04/2007, 3:12 PM
Now set record as highest opening wicket total in Ireland ODI.

I see India & Pakistani fans in the crowd. India fans (http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/42803000/jpg/_42803657_indiafans_ap.jpg)

pete
15/04/2007, 4:37 PM
184-4 44 overs. (4.2 an over)

Porterfield fell at 85. K O'Brien & Johnstone in.

Looks at about 220 total which may not be enough.

pineapple stu
15/04/2007, 4:47 PM
208/4 with four overs remaining. 16 off the last over. 250 is an outside chance as the innings comes to a close, and should certainly be the target the players are aiming for. Good total, either way.

pineapple stu
15/04/2007, 5:10 PM
243/7 off the 50. Scored off every one of the last 22 balls.

Last two wickets we've actually gotten one run for as well. How's this work? Both were run out, so I can only assume that the first run still counts even if they get run out on the second? Would have thought being run out negated all the runs for that ball. Shows what I know anyways.

Good target though. Might sneak a win here. Couple of early wickets and we're laughing.

Good target by Ireland. Disappointing to see 4 run out especially Morgan & O'Brien but on the other hand Ireland stole runs by chasing.

Pity the O'Brien-Johnston partnership did not stay in longer as they were putting on the runs.

DmanDmythDledge
15/04/2007, 5:58 PM
Bangladesh batsmen make a slow start but Irish bowlers gift them 6 extras in the first two overs. 7/0 after 2.0.

pete
15/04/2007, 6:29 PM
Rankin with 1 wicket but is gifting extras in exchange. 3 wides in last over with 2 boundaries
Ireland seem to be keen to take wickets at the expense of runs.

41-1 9 overs.

The Bangladeshis are on target for victory so far, I hope we can get a few more wickets in the next 10 overs and twist the tension screws a bit tighter.

Another 2 wickets gone. 104/5. Are we cruising now? Can I relax the stumoch muscles a bit?

DmanDmythDledge

Shouldn't be anything to worry about seeing as there's only the tail-enders left to come.

164/8. Bangladesh need 7.86 per over. All over bar the last twelve overs. Should end any doubts about the justification of our qualification for the last stage too.

pineapple stu
15/04/2007, 8:52 PM
169/9 now. While they're actually ahead of our score at the same stage, with only one wicket remaining, victory should be a formality.

pete
15/04/2007, 8:54 PM
Allover!

169 all out. Ireland win by 74 runs! :D
