I fancied NZ as outsiders but after the hiding the Aussies gave me no sure now.
You shouldn't let people beating you up change your opinions, Pete, no matter where they come from.

10th in the world - puts Irish cricket behind the rugby team (4th in world) and International Rules football (2nd in world;) ) but ahead of mostly everything else in world rankings. :)
To reach this milestone Ireland has had two ODI wins plus a tie against Full Members from nine such matches over a one-year period. To put this into perspective, when it was elevated to Test status Sri Lanka had had one ODI win against a Full member from five matches over a four-year period; Zimbabwe had had two ODI wins over Full Members from 20 matches over a nine-year period and Bangladesh had had one ODI win against a Full member from 33 matches over a 14-year period.

Kenya 0 rating points despite a great showing in the previous world cup. Just shows, it's not that easy to build on success for the smaller nations. Mind you, I was passing Jobstown recently and there were some kids out playing cricket so who knows

With the team now ranked, so are the players
http://www.lgiccrankings.com/
We have two batsmen in the top 100 (85 Kevin O'Brien, 99 - Porterfield) and 3 bowlers in the top 100 (85 McCallen, 90 Langford Smith, 92 Botha)

Team are due to arrive home in about forty minutes. They'll be on the Late Late this week. John Mooney has retired from international cricket and several more squad members are expected to follow his lead. Trent Johnston has left Clontarf to join Railway Union.
I'd like to see a NZ - SA final

My thinking was on a Sri Lanka New Zealand final, with the Kiwis shading it - shame they are meeting in the semis.
I still reckon on New Zealand beating the Aussies in the final. Consequently, I am contemplating putting money on Sri Lanka to meet South Africa in the final.
Sri Lanka 233-4 off 45 overs so look like will be setting a reasonable target for NZ.

Sri Lanka get 289, more than 100 off the last 10 overs. Tough for NZ now.

RSA 27-5 off ten overs. I'm sticking my neck out, but I fancy an Australia-Sri Lanka final.
103 for 7 (29.3 overs).
Recovery of sorts.
This could be a tight one - will it be over before lunch? :p

Should be a quality game, I expect a very close match, and maybe not high scores.

I think you mean Paul Mooney Johnīs older brother also iīve been informed that Jeremy Bray has moved to The Hillīs for this season.

Yeah, it was Paul that retired. John is in the squad for the Kent game, which is composed exclusively of WC squad members (minus Rankin, who's been called up by Derbyshire.) No overseas players have yet been contracted for the Friends Provident campaign. Personally, I think we should do without (or maybe field non-qualified domestically-based players) unless the ICU can entice a top pro with international experience to impart. Bray is still with Eglinton as of now but will probably sign for The Hills shortly. Surprised Gillespie hasn't packed it in, he's looked past it at international level for a couple of years now.

I am surprised that N O'B was in that list for Sunday's game, thought he was playing for Northants.
Anyway, it is a hard game v Kent, they have some top quality players.

I'd expect similar comments to appear in some papers over the weekend but there are a few coincidental similarities between this world cup and the football team's breakthrough tournament of Italia 90.
- Ireland coming through one of the tougher groups to reach the last 8.
- Last over vs. Zim was as tense as the Genoa shootout :D
- Never give up, fight for every ball attitude from the team - inspired by a foreign-born coach and captain.
- Most obviously, Ireland supporters providing one of the few high points of a dull tournament with few memorable matches.
The 1990 World Cup led to changes (backpass rule) to make the game more exciting as many are speculating will have to happen with the one-day game as it could be in danger of getting squeezed out by 20/20 as the most popular short-version of the game.

You are very crafty there ;)
Rain delayed the start today so limited to 38 over match.
Aussies attacking the bowlers on apparently good crease for batsmen. Going to be huge total at this rate.
163-0 (22 overs).
Gilchrist 109 n/o. His century included 8 four & 6 sixes.
149 off 104 balls. Highest score in a final. Aus 282-4 after 38 overs.
Sri Lanka have lost basically before they started.:D

A bit of a farce in the end, But the Aussies thoroughly deserve the victory.
A bit of a farce in the end, But the Aussies thoroughly deserve the victory.
Aussies well worth their win but Sri Lanka did make a good run until no.2 & no.3 batsmen got out - the way they were going for everything was alwasy going to end in tears.
The rain delay, playing during drizzle just to get to 20 overs, the fact Sri Lanka did not know what their D/L total was & then of course playing in the dark were indeed a farce. Image something similar happening at the FIFA World Cup
42 pages later Australia pummel everything in their way to a third successive win

On a slightly unrelated topic Surrey smashed the one day world record scoring 496/4 off 50 overs against Gloucestershire. Astonishing scoring (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/shared/fds/hi/statistics/cricket/scorecards/2007/4/13606/html/scorecard.stm#Surrey1).

That is incredible when I hear it, thought it must be a mistake. This will be hard to beat, 10 runs every over is what is required, top scoring.

Ireland have signed Nantie Hayward for the Friends Provident Trophy.

Decent figures aswell, he is replacing Rankin in the squad.
