Best thing Parrott could have done was change leagues and countries. The last 18 months have been huge in his development

9 league goals and third highest goal scorer in eredivisie at moment, decent going and would be great if he could hit close to 20 this season.

This new chapter in his life is really pleasing to see. I don't know where his eventual level will be but it is very nice to have a player at a relatively high standard scoring goals.

10th goal in 17 games in the Eredivisie this season. While the standard of some of the opposition he's playing against is questionable, he's scoring plenty of goals.

Not just scoring goals, he seems to be a real star in a country where football is more than just a sport. As someone with a strong link to where he hails from, I am absolutely bursting with pride that he's gone from tabloid stuff to this kind of thing

More that he's enunciating his words (vowels particularly) so as to avoid speaking too fast so that the Dutch can fully understand him I think. I don't hear any gutteral pronunciation of the "sh"!

It's still a Northside accent, but with a kind of Dutch pacing. Probably inevitable, he's been there for a year and a half now so it's going to rub off on him a bit. Also going a bit Ruud van Nistelrooy with the hair!

If he spoke like he normally would at home, then genuinely the interviewer wouldn’t understand him. He’s adapting to his environment and keeping most of his accent, while just slightly adapting how fast he speaks, how he constructs sentences and the grammatically complexity of his speech.
There’s a couple of little bits, most obvious is the reduced pace. there’s the linguistic addition of “also” as a filler almost all the time which he’s taken from Dutch English, which gives time for him to be understood. Occasionally he adapts his sentences to how your native Dutch speaker would build a sentence, I dunno if you’d call it a passive voice like “if we have two strikers scoring goals, that can only make the better” or his “this is what I do…” before he actually answers it with his natural: “Listen, I came to score goals…”. And his beginning “This is eh…” before actually deciding how to answer the question “for me, it’s important to…”. Sometimes it’s just a single word like what begins really dub, he uses “is not always possible” where he’d normally say “isn’t always possible” or “it will come, it will come” rather than it’ll. a few simplifications like “I think is really good movement”.
But overall, he keeps a lot of Dub - his “us”, “here” “striker” “better” stuff like that.

To be honest ~ Bar the Steve McClaren comicals ~ This kind of thing is probably the human instinct to try to fit it / to make an effort ~ ~ Maybe he is attempting to learn Dutch !
The first time I was in Spain I was heading down this route myself ~ Probably had a phrase-book / some duo-language cards.
After awhile I noticed that I was speaking English and putting an O on the end of everything and a part of my mind was thinking I was on the road to speaking fluent Spanish !

I think Parrott is making a conscious effort to enunciate his vowels so that people understand him. Otherwise, he would be blitzing through words, singing sentences like Irish people can tend to do (me anyway).

There was a woman on newstalk speaking about this kind of thing during the week, it's not about losing your accent, more to do with making yourself understood. I had a similar issue myself, I even had to slightly alter my name so the locals could understand!

Speaking he reminds me a bit of Frank Stapelton, who also spent time in the Netherlands of course, be great if he ended up reaching Stapeltons levels.

I think Troy's career will be very interesting to follow from here. He's not going to be the superstar he was made out to be five years ago, but he looks set to have a very decent career, at club level at least.
If he can stay fit and continue his club form he'll get close to 20 goals this season. If he could do that for a couple of seasons back to back that will definitely generate interest in him again, and AZ wouldn't hesitate to sell him on for a decent profit. I don't know that it will necessarily be from the Premier League though, and he could hardly buy a goal in the Championship, so that league clearly doesn't suit him.
He looks settled on the continent, so other leagues - Germany, France etc. are much more likely destinations for him than for most Irish players. Or he could find himself at one of the three big Dutch clubs. He's more of a technical player than an athlete and that's probably why the route he's taking in the game suits him more than England did.

I'm not sure you can say that Championship doesn't suit him, the end. He's two years older now and will have improved in that time

His record at Millwall and Preston was something like four goals in about 50 games. I'm not convinced it would be that much different now - he's not that quick and he's not especially physical so he doesn't really suit that league. But he does seem a very good fit for football as it is played on the continent. Not clear yet whether that will translate to him becoming an important player for Ireland.

Sure, but he was 18 at Millwall and 20 at Preston. He's 22 now. You'd expect to see big improvement in that time.

Also Preston and Millwall weren’t exactly playing football that suited Troy. In better footballing sides, i think he would have gotten more from the league.
He’s currently second in the Eredivisie scoring charts, two off first place. If he ends up top scorer, I think he’s guaranteed a big move whether it’s to a title contending eredivisie side, or to Germany, France, Portugal, even a good Premier League team.
The fact he’s been successful at two clubs in a row is really good. Shows that last season wasn’t a flash in the pan.
Watching Spurs on Sunday, I actually thought Troy would have done well in that Ange side, could see him scoring a lot of goals there.

Has missed 2 big chances in the first 20 mins against PSV.
Should have tapped in after the rebound from his own headed dropped back to him. Then he semi fluffed a cut back into an open goal and the defender did really well to just about clear it when 90% of the ball was over the line.
Could have easily been 2 on another day.
He's also got himself an awful new hairstyle in the form of cornrows.

The cornrows are to take the emphasis of the veneers. He is a shaper but I don’t care if he’s in form and banging in the goals, and brings that to the international stage

Came off the bench and scored a great goal. Started the move and finished it.
Brought a ton of energy and started leading the press the moment he came on as well. Very impressive.

That's a big goal for him. At home against a huge team relative to AZ.
Another win next week and they give themselves a great chance at a winnable knock out tie.
He should be back in the starting team again this weekend and hopefully he can get back to scoring domestically as well.

Did he look quite fast in the build up to that goal? I can't figure him out. Sometimes I think he's too slow and not big enough to justify being a 9. Then he looks no slouch there and has three separate possessions (including a finish) in a fast break goal.

Two goals in the group stages, both winners thus earning €420,000 in prize money, with tonight's goal guaranteeing a spot in the last 16, adding €500,000 to the prize pot, plus an extra game in front of a packed house - the €4m AZ shelled out for him is looking like money well spent.

Not really, I just know how to look stuff up. There's only been a handful of Irish players in Serie A, which meant checking their history wasn't time consuming. Wikipedia has lists of foreign players for most of the bigger competitions, here's the Irish players in Serie A
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_foreign_Serie_A_players#Republic_of_Irelan d
I know that Robbie Keane, Ebosele and Abankwah haven't scored in the competition, so no need to check their histories. Transfermarkt has added a load of historical data, and you can limit a player's history to their goals
Here's their record of Brady's goals, the penalty against Roma is a little over half way down

Took a chance that it was on YouTube, and got lucky.
A friend of mine replied on Twitter that Paddy Sloan scored for AC Milan against Roma in the 1948/49 season, again discovered using transfermarkt

Couldn't find any video footage of that game, and it almost certainly doesn't exist, but one quick Google of the game came up with this history of Roma site, with photos from the game in question, including one of Sloan's finish!

The 1984 European Cup Final was one that jumped to mind too, but while three Irish players were involved, none of them scored, even in the shoot-out. (Wiki says Roma needed to bribe the referee to get past Dundee United in the semi-finals - football was so much more competitive and interesting in the olden days!)
Roma have never played an LoI side in Europe - though Ards did score one against them in the 60s.

Gary Kelly and Ian Harte played for Dave O'Leary's Leeds side against Roma in March 2000, with Alan Maybury on the bench - https://www.uefa.com/uefaeuropaleague/match/60186--roma-vs-leeds/ - but none of them scored
Kelly and Harte appeared in the return leg in Leeds, joined by Stephen McPhail - https://www.uefa.com/uefaeuropaleague/match/60187--leeds-vs-roma/
McPhail had played against Roma for Leeds before, in Rome in October 1998 - https://www.uefa.com/uefaeuropaleague/match/55962--roma-vs-leeds/ - and in the return leg in Leeds two weeks later, alongside Harte - https://www.uefa.com/uefaeuropaleague/match/55963--leeds-vs-roma/

Its the other image. I ran that image through Google Lens, and the text reads
Sloan is one on one with Risorti. He completely missed the ball; a Giallorossi defender will definitely be responsible for averting the threat
https://www.almanaccogiallorosso.it/1948-1949/Campionato/23Giornata/Immagini.jpg
Against the Giallorossi, Mi'an, who with the inclusion of Nordahl have regained confidence in their own abilities, clearly imposed themselves from the first half. Here are some of the highlights of the contest: Annovazzi's goal scored from a free kick; Sloan beats Risorti for the second time; the Roma keeper's dive on a move by Gudmundsson; a shot by Nordahl that will be blocked; Valle prepares to overturn while Delli Innocenti keeps Nordahl at bay.

He's not the strongest or the quickest, but that's a goal that reminds you of what a talented footballer he is. Intelligent run and a great finish. It probably won't happen, because it's us, but there's still a possibility that we could have some genuine international quality forward options by Euro 2028 in him, Ferg, Cannon and Idah.
Just confidently tucked home a pen to put AZ one up.
I think that puts him up as second top scorer in the Eredivisie. He's on an excellent run to be fair to him.
Scores another pen, this time against 3rd Tier amateur team Quick Boys in the cup.
