Bohemians-Derry a very disappointing 978.

Bohs derry crowd terrible. Man U v Southampton?
I'd have no doubt that hit the crowd. Some time back there was a Man United Villa game on a Friday and it certainly caused our crowd to dip at the time.

If there were 400 at that game I'd be surprised. Maybe 40-60 from Cork.

yep very poor turnout from us. I think ppl will hold out until they see wot Mathews can do first.Mathews will get a hell of a shock when he finally takes charge as the atmo is gone from the ground completely and will never return.

We don't half like to exaggerate in Longford. There's something very Eamon Dunphy about a lot of the stuff said online.

Ah to be honest it is like a morgue these days but if we win the FD next season that will soon change. Footballs a funny game and fans attitudes soon change
I think the Trackchamp streaming agreement has affected attendance. Quite easy to whatever game u want on them and they have improved slightly on quality. Shelbourne have about 6,000 watching a Facebook stream of their game against Athlone when they was only about 200 at most in attendance for example.

No fan of any LOI team would prefer to watch a track champ stream than go to the game. They're appalling. Better than nothing for an away game but no one chooses that option. It's a last resort

Define Fan? Not all fans of LOI Clubs are Diehards or regulars. Some fans who attend only occasionally, might be likely to skip a game if it is on TV or Online. When Clubs say games on TV impact on attendances they are correct. Same could be said of TrackChamp to a far lesser extent. To say no one chooses that option, is in my view inaccurate.
I think of the mentioned 6000 viewers on track champ for athlone v Shels ...5500 were probably gamblers from across Europe watching thier money go down the drain

I think it's unlikely anyone who was considering spending money on a ticket for a game would decide to stay in and watch a static camera on their laptop instead. Far more likely Shels Facebook views are from people betting on the match, which is the purpose of the Trackchamp streams.

They might skip it if it was on TV, but they're not going to stay in and watch the track champ version unless they're completely invested in the game
And those folks are either at the game, or can't get to it.
I was speaking specifically about track champ, not games on TV/online in general. The track champ coverage (although better than nothing) is fairly hard to watch even for those of us who are committed

That's literally unbelievable....
Controversial I know but apart from "ground standard" requirements for premier division status should we be looking at average minimum attendance figures.
I know this was a cup game but point is the same.

Youths have been on a losing run, Sligo beat us 5-0 two weeks earlier, our huge injury list was announced before the game. the Scum were live on TV and, if you saw Soccer Republic, it was absolutely hammering down and Ferrycarrig Park is very open.
As for average minimum attendances, yeah, why not just make it a FAI Major City League, that will develop our game. The Club is 9 years old and making steady VIABLE progress on and off the pitch, so give us a chance. UCD rarely got our attendance figures in the Premier, yet people accepted they were there on merit. We deserve the same opportunity

Wouldn't get worked up by daft arguments like average minimum attendances tbh.
FAI Cup crowds seem to be generally poor for whatever reason.

Fair point and we do need a National league with teams in as many city's / towns as possible. I wasn't really having a go at Wexford tbh just I know from guys involved in different loi clubs that teams that bring no fans with them are the particular weeks when things can get very tight money wise. Limerick will help next year

Sadly Irish people have picked up the English footballing phrase of ''it's only the cup''

I can understand that some people may not be particularly excited about lack-lustre early round ties, but the FAI Cup is really special.
The way that an Aviva cup final outing can galvanise a whole community and the uniqueness of the cup final occasion is really brilliant

You don't need to tell me. I've seen my team in 3 finals in the space of 4 years and have gone to every final since the move to the Aviva. It's one of the best days on the Irish sporting calendar IMo.

No we weren't.

You had eejits on here, and elsewhere, looking for UCD to be relegated/kicked out too.
That clubs with tiny fanbases can win promotion, and compete in the PD, says more about the other clubs than them. The beauty of football is that it's only based on results, not "support base" or "history".
(except for that whole Galway/Dundalk thing back in the day...)

Until every team sells out its ground regularly, they should all be forced to have crowd murals like Arsenal in '92! That'll show the barstoolers!!

So that's what they mean by drawing a crowd.

The ends of some LOI grounds are so bad that putting anything there would be preferable to how they are atm. Even a bit of paint would be an improvement.

I'm not sure it's "really special" in fairness.
A Cup Final will always draw a crowd - it's in their nature. Turning out for a run-of-the-mill cup tie in an early round is very different. The 'magic' of the cup usually only appears in the semi-final at the earliest

Outspoken
I think the critical feature which has allowed us punch relatively above our weight has been our link with IT Carlow. It has brought us a number of players who wouldn't otherwise have come near us such as Eric Molloy, Stephen Last, Andy Mulligan and Jonny Bonner. Without that link, we'd be on the same points as Dustin the Turkey.
By the way, I think our cunning escape plan requires you to beat Harps next weekend. Just one goal for Longford will be enough!

Actually a cracking attendance when you think about it. Hammered the same opponent last week. Game was live on telle. Massive game live on sky and most counties had local GAA games on last night, not sure if that was the case in Cork tho? On any other night you are looking at well over 3000 there. Cork built this game up very well during the week and they limited the damage by doing so whereas other clubs will just use the excuses I listed above. Well done City.
