You'd have to be very disappointed though were we to lose to Holland now. A better performance is needed, but we should have too much for them. Would be nice to get out of the group with 3/3 wins.

When is it? Friday?

We have it in RR right now.

But we have to have to much for the Netherlands.

We're 1/6 to win the group, that'll do me, I'll wait in confidence for the Cricket world cup bandwagon that will be rolling by in a few days.

Zim V Holland game was a cracker, Holland wont be any pushovers for sure. Yes run rate will determine

Stuttgart88

I'm not counting any chickens. T20 is too unpredictable and driven by momentum.

If we weren't going to go through then we would be in the other group or we would have lost to Zimbabwe.
What's the point of life if we get the easier group, have beaten the odds on favourites and still don't go through?

We're Irish. We don't do things the normal way and it makes us fatalists. Macedonia away has scarred me for life.

On the plus side, two years after Macedonia away we beat the Dutch #bloodyorangjemen

You have to knock that outta ya.

That's not the Joe Schmidt/Roy Keane/Phil Simmmons way!

Ireland's Group B fixture/results

17 March - beat Zimbabwe by three wickets
19 March - beat United Arab Emirates by 21 runs (D/L method)
21 March v Netherlands, Sylhet, 09:30 GMT

When they talk about spin in cricket, is it defined by stating that Ireland beat Zimbabwe by a cosy 3 wickets, instead of the single run?

Stuttgart88

I think that the established way of expressing the margin of victory doesn't always reflect the closeness of a game.

If the team batting second wins, the winning margin is expressed in wickets. If the team batting first wins, the margin is expressed in runs.

Just watching HK try their best to beat Bangladesh, wow, this is fun!

The Ireland- Emirates game being an exception, basically because the overs Ireland needed to reach a winning total would otherwise have been distorted. The net run-rate (akin to goal difference in football) and as part of that the number of overs remaining is actually more significant than the wickets in hand when play was abandoned.

Zim won easily this morning so Ireland need to win, or tie I presume. Netherlands need to win easily though so maybe that'll open things up for us. Ireland bat first, 12-0 after 2.

I can watch the first hour on telly. 15 off the third over, 27-0 now. Keep it up.

Poor shot, Stirling gone cheaply. 28-1.

Joyce looks nervous to me.

Tommy Cooper now bowling for Holland.

It's the way that he throws them.

Stuttgart88

Joyce run out. Poynter not looking too confident, or fit.

Run rate slowing down. O'Brien needs to do a bit of damage.

geysir
21/03/2014, 9:29 AM
O'Brien has woken up Poynter. Nice reply to the uppity orange rebellion.

119 for 15 overs

Stuttgart88
21/03/2014, 9:33 AM
That's much better from Poynter, 3 consecutive 6s. 140-3 after 16.

21/03/2014, 9:34 AM
And all that happened while I went for a pee.

Mr A
21/03/2014, 10:17 AM
Holy crap.. that's some start by the Netherlands

46/0 after just 3 overs

Mr A
21/03/2014, 10:27 AM
68/0 after 4 overs.. Netherlands averaging a six every fourth ball currently.

Mr A
21/03/2014, 10:41 AM
100/2 at 7 overs.. but at least the opening partnership are gone. Mental stuff.

Charlie Darwin
21/03/2014, 10:52 AM
131/3, Netherlands need 59 from 61 balls.

Charlie Darwin
21/03/2014, 10:54 AM
They're hitting sixes for fun - they're going to do this.

Charlie Darwin
21/03/2014, 10:55 AM
4 6s in 4 balls.

geysir
21/03/2014, 10:56 AM
It's a blood bath.
How come it's so easy for them to be hitting all those 6's?

Charlie Darwin
21/03/2014, 10:56 AM
NL need 33 from 20 balls to progress in our place.

pineapple stu
21/03/2014, 10:58 AM
20 balls?

Cricinfo saying 29 from 53 balls?

Charlie Darwin
21/03/2014, 10:59 AM
O'Brien catches Cooper - huge catch.

Stu, they need 29 to win the match but they need to beat our run rate to progress to the next round. We need to win the match to progress, otherwise Zimbabwe do.

geysir
21/03/2014, 11:11 AM
They fully deserve to go through after that.

Charlie Darwin
21/03/2014, 11:12 AM
The Dutch did it with 3 balls to spare! Ed Joyce must be distraught - he dropped Tommy Cooper on 1 before he went on a boundary spree.

Our bowling let us down big time - how we miss Trent Johnston (green23)

How is his girls doing in the warm up match against India? - at least they in the Super 10's!

It's ruined my day. Rovers better win tonight.

Anyway, I'm off to play netball now at my daughter's school, for Comic Relief. A few people had better look out, I've got negative energy to get rid of.

BonnieShels
21/03/2014, 1:31 PM
Well. I didn't see that coming.

Though isn't great that an Irish cricket loss actually makes you feel sick. The times have changed.

Pish bowling by us. As GR said elsewhere, 'too many players from the North!'

And the only reason the UAE thing was significant Stuttgart enquired about, was because the match was settled by the 'dreaded' D/L. method.

Dutch only make 39 against Sri Lanka :(

9 (NINE) wicket victory....holy crap. That's horrendous after their batting display against Ireland.

Didn't quite work, but the ladies don't get as much experience v. the better sides...

As for the Dutch, even though our bowling was appalling, would still have fancied us to make the best part of a 100 v. anyone else, but all our slow bowlers don't seem appropriate in T20?

Took the day off work today to go and see Ireland v Sri Lanka. And of course it rains. Hung round downtown with the missus trailing in to every conceivable store and shop until 2.30 when there is a pitch inspection and the match is called off. 5 minutes later the sun comes out and the clouds disappear and the wind dries out the ground. Cricket in Ireland - don't you just love it.

These games such be played at the end of June or early in July. We always, always get iffy weather in May.
