Link to Irish-born Test cricketers here. Feel sorry for Boyd - destined to be a one Test only player.

Did Ed Joyce never play in a test?
Of the list in that wiki link only two have taken a test wicket: Horan for Australia and Poore for South Africa.

Made test squads but never actually played far as I know.

Ed Joyce's Wikipedia article confirms Nigel-Harp's view above that he didn't play Test cricket. Martin McCague is also listed under N. Ireland in the link above. Born in Larne and got dog's abuse when he played a few tests for England and picked up a handful of wickets after having grown up in Australia

Ed Joyce was on the 2006/07 tour. England lost that one 5-0 too, so he really should have got a game.
I wouldn't be surprised if Rankin got another game or two. All the other fringe bowlers were rubbish as well, Broad and Anderson have to be rested occasionally, the young quicks can't get games in the English championship to give them experience.

What a one day game at the GABA! Morgan got 106 for England who set Australia a target of 301. They were struggling from the early stages and were looking doomed at 244-9. Then James Faulkner too a grip and scored 60-something including a bundle of huge 6s and Australia won with 3 balls to spare.
Joe Root nearly took an unbelievable catch to win it, catching Faulkner one-handed on the boundary and, having had both feet on the ground, went over the ropes and it was a 6 instead.
I think if both feet are on the ground inside the rope and the ball is firmly in hand then it should be a catch, but rules are rules I suppose.

Still worth watching. Every now and then one day cricket throws up a classic. This was one of them.

Could a distant door be open for Ireland or another ICC team to gain test status?

Ireland completed a historic victory over the West Indies in a T20 international at Sabina Park. Fairly well stuffed the World Champions in their backyard by 6 wickets with 5 balls to spare. Great effort.
Second T20 international on Friday and an ODI on Sunday.

Ireland in Business again in the second T20 international. WI 62-4 after 13 overs and even at that have dropped 2 pretty handy chances. Hope they don't prove too costly.

Is the stream still on a break or is the action back on... single bat it.. keep the head.. no wild swinging we get home for ten overs.

that was a very brave effort, good recovery considering the way the top order collapsed.. Porterfield, Sterling and O'Brien will be very disappointed with their contribution.. that 3-1 for Windies before Ireland batted was a steal!!

Batting has always been the Achilles Heel for Ireland. In matches such as this, Ireland needed their experienced players to produce. Those players like Porterfield, Joyce and O'Brien should have done better considering their international experience. In terms of fielding and bowling, the team is as good as anyone, they may not have an outstanding bowler, but as a group they are effective.

4 4's in a row for Stirling in the last over of the power play. Solid start, it should be a close run thing.

Ireland win with dodgiest bye on last ball - Zimbabwe keeper had a throw to stumps to keep it at a tie but missed.

17/03/2014, 11:42 AM
Wow that was close! Really dont know how Taylor missed the stumps when right in front of him, everyone running everywhere! Kevin O Brien was the game changer for us, got a 6 and a four when we need it. Great game to watch, but didnt need that today!PHEW:)

Looked like medium pacer for last ball - Zimbabwe keeper standing back which was a bit of a mystery. Not sure who was on strike but a swing and a miss. Keeper takes careful aim and misses by about three inches. Irish non-strike runner collides with Zimbabwe fielder on crease side of stumps and falls in home.
Needed the third last over from O'Brien to make it home. Think he got about 13-14 off five before being out on last ball.

So, the finish wasn't unlike the first game in WC 2007, just with better wicket-keeping (by us) 7 years ago!
Had it been a tie would the wicket count have had any bearing?

According to a bit of googling, it goes to a super over in case of a tie.

Ireland v UAE
Floodlight failure.
Game suspended after 14.2 of our innings.
We're 103-3; chasing 124 to win.
Stuttgart88
19/03/2014, 4:15 PM
We won on D/L.
Zimbabwe beat Holland and will surely beat UAE. So if we fail to beat Holland there will be 3 teams with two wins out if 3. Am I right in saying it'll then go to run rate? That's where not being more convincing versus Zimbabwe when we had the chance might hurt us I guess.
