One of Hull's best players against Man Utd so naturally he is dropped for their next game.

1-0 when he came on and they won 2-0.
So pretty well.

In fairness, I don't think there was too much wrong with bringing in an actual right back instead of a makeshift one, but Meyler had performed very well there. Hopefully he can get his place back in midfield though.

Unused sub today as Hull beaten 3-1 by Leicester.
I didn't think he acquitted himself THAT badly in the games he has played under Silva so far.
Maybe if his name was Meylovic or Van Meyler or Meylerini or Meylaud or Meylerinho or Meylez he might get more opportunities.
I like Van Meyler the best. Davi Van Meyler

I've a feeling Meyler will be an important player for us in the coming few months. If you think back to our big games in the last campaign, a lot of the memorable moments he was on the field. Even the Austria goal all started with his determination and a lovely heads-up pass to Hoolahan.

He's a brilliant squad player to have at the very least. You can totally rely on him to put out a fire whenever it's needed. Unfortunately that seems to be be his role at club level now as well as for us. He's probably our fourth choice central midfielder with two spots available and maybe third choice right back? He probably will see some game time though as O'Neill seems to trust him.

.....brilliant......
totally...... Just a couple of things I'd disagree with but I would say yes he's a play more positive addition than his ability alone.

110% better. Probably one of the best opinions anyones ever posited

Well he probably wouldn't win the popularity vote but it shouldn't be about popularity or who has the higher media profile.
If anyone comes into the midfield I'd rather it be him based on what he's done on the pitch, where it matters, in previous performances.

Huddlestone out for the next three games after being sent off for a poor tackle. Hopefully will mean a bit more gametime for Meyler after he returns from international duty.

If Meyler can't get a recall this weekend he might as well give up.
Evandro and Huddlestone unavailable and Henriksen hasn't played in 10 weeks.

Meyler out for the rest of the season due to a knee injury: http://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2017/0414/867854-david-meyler/
Hull said in a short statement on Friday evening: "David Meyler will miss the rest of the season after suffering a medial knee ligament injury during training [on Thursday].
"We wish David well with his recovery."
Meyler is now a doubt for the summer friendlies against Mexico (1 June) and Uruguay (4 June), before Austria travel to Dublin for a crucial World Cup qualifier on 11 June.

Is that his third knee job ?

Sounds like he's more that just a doubt for our games? Could be a big enough loss depending on how we're fixed otherwise.

Confirmed that he will miss Austria game: http://www.the42.ie/david-meyler-29-april-2017-3360244-Apr2017/.
Could really have used him at RB. Christie dropped to the bench again today...
Pity Quinn has missed virtually the entire season, too. He is an excellent option to have in the squad see Serbia in Belgrade.
McCarthy must also be a doubt at this stage.
Really can't afford to lose many more players.

I'd be hopeful on McCarthy it will 10/11 weeks since the Wales game plenty of time to get conditioning right what an advantage he will be to us

Hopefully we're winning 2-0 going into injury time and he picks up a muscle strain just to **** Koeman off.

Meyler leaving Hull City https://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2018/0508/961139-david-meyler-confirms-hes-leaving-hull-city/ In and out of a struggling side this season which isn't great. Not sure who will be interested in him. Possibly one of the promoted sides like Wigan or Blackburn.

Reading move was a disaster for both parties, not sure what went wrong exactly but he was somewhat derided by the fans there. Hopefully he can go again somewhere else, probably looking at League 1, League 2 or Scotland now.

He's had a tough time in his personal life for the last couple of years - which wouldn't have been easy.
Hopefully he can get his career back on track. He was superb that night in Cardiff until he picked up a silly booking at the end.

One of those . How good could he have been if he did not have that very serious injury when a young player . We’ll never know .
Best of luck to the lad . He could still have a very useful contribution to make to Irish Sport with all his experience .

With the criticism that O'Neill used to get for not naming the team until just before that game, I thought the last sentences here was interesting
THE PENNANT NEXT to my jersey was the giveaway. I arrived into the dressing-room 90 minutes before kick-off against Moldova, on a Friday night in October 2017. The Irish kit lads had all our gear laid out as usual. When I saw the extra item next to mine, the realisation hit me. I’m captain tonight.
Jon Walters had been deputising for Seamus, but he was out injured. It was a stroke of genius not to let me know in advance. Instead, I had no time to become distracted about being Irish captain for a World Cup qualifier. Martin was good at that, in keeping everyone focused on the game. His tactic of delaying team announcements was criticised but it gave everybody a chance to stake a claim to start and helped keep players switched on.

Clearly O’Neill has had a lot of success in the game, and he proved in the lead up and during Euro 2016 that he could still be a very good manager. At some point the shine came off and he was probably unfairly labelled a dinosaur. He probably hasn’t done anything since to silence the critics but perhaps the game has moved on.
When he was let go I didn’t object but the O’Neill era was one of the best in my time following Ireland.

In hindsight, he stayed on for one campaign too many, like a lot of managers,
It was evident that his time was done after the play off loss, nothing personal but was just a regime that had come to its natural conclusion but instead we kept him on for another year for some brain dead idea and I still believe this decision played a big roll in us not qualifying for the Euros.
Biggest mistake he made was not trying to change how we played when Murphy retired and Walters was finished. Even Wes retiring had an affect on him as we lost a player that could make something happen creatively at times.
September 2018 was the nail in the coffin that finished him. We had been trying 3-5-2 in some friendlies and Callum O'Dowda had even been moved into midfield to be an attacking midfielder for us. But once we went into the first competitive game of that year against Wales it was 4-4-2 with a clearly finished Jonathan Walters who was like Bambi on ice that night. We made Wales look like Brazil that night and the WhatsApp video from Stephen Ward was released at the same time.
