Shane Long, take note.
What a goal.

Actually, I though he delayed a little too long but very very coolly done. Well done.

It just had to be, didn't it? David Meyler, who was headbutted by Newcastle manager Alan Pardew last weekend, beats Lee Cattermole to the ball in midfield, charges forward unchallenged and slots Hull's second past Oscar Ustari. His celebration? He headbutts the corner flag...

It was a lovely finish alright. Would love to have Davies on board though. Smashing game from him too.

But what about Richard Keogh? Surely he's nailed on after that majestic performance against Serbia.

There are those that are up front about lack of interest in playing for a country they don't identify with and who would rather play for their own country or not play for any country: Davies; Noble; O'Hara.
Then there are people like Jack Grealish, who will play for one country if they aren't good enough to play for another as Joey Barton succinctly said not in so many words.

Dam it was 0-0 for ages so I switched over to the Rugby and I missed all 3 goals.
Interesting Meyler scored, on another thread I was posting shots per goal
Meyler's was 4.5 which is a good ratio, this would take it down to 3.
It's certainly worth shooting more with figures like that, but you have to
get the opportunity in the first place.
Just seen the goal, seems he kept a cool head

Isn't that rather presumptive? Grealish has declined invites to join up with England squads, so the FA would clearly deem him "good enough".

David Meyler Starman
Relished the head to head with former team-mate Cattermole and undoubtedly had the last laugh. Covered every blade of grass and got his reward when scoring a goal all by his own industry. 8

One of his Player of the Year trophies fell off the mantlepiece and broke her foot. Trapattoni was there, he just laughed and then tried to call an ambulance through a curly-wurly. :(

She broke up with him and got a new boyfriend but he kept calling her and asking her to select him as her new boyfriend, despite the fact that there were better boyfriends available in his position. She then decided to give him another chance and proceeded to watch the Serbia game through her fingers, wincing at his positional naivete and lack of dominance. So she moved on to bigger and better things.

Stephen Quinn also scored moments after coming off the bench. Meyler was involved in two of the other goals, including Quinn's, so it was another all action game for him today.

I was at the game and I still can't figure him out. He makes himself available for everything but almost always plays a safe pass. No harm in that but there were times that with a bit more awareness he could gave been more incisive. He played a ball late in the first half that put his forward through on goal, but was given offside. I wasn't sure if he was actually offside but Meyler definitely could have played it quicker. His wall pass for Huddlestone's goal was pretty tidy and his finish was very composed.

Btw, Meyler went to the centre circle by himself before the game today and prayed. I presume it was Hillsborough related.
A few in the Hull crowd were noisy during the minute's silence prompting the whole ground to applaud through the minute instead of observe the silence. Great response by the crowd but what kind of cretin would disrupt a minute's silence like that?

Who knows? People assume Stefan Scougall's celebration was dedicated to Hillsborough victims but it could easily have been for his brother who died in a car crash a few years ago.

Meyler's very religious but I've never heard of him praying on the pitch before the game, so it would make sense it was to do with Hillsborough.
As for him playing the safe option, I can see that but I also thinking he provides a pretty good number of more forward-thinking passes, but he doesn't have the technical ability of Huddlestone where he can play the improbably pass, so a lot of his play would be about giving it to him and Livermore, or Quinn, who can do a bit more with the ball. Bear in mind too that, with his injuries, this is only his second full season of senior football. I think he's still in the improving stage.

I would think that Meyler will miss the biggest game of his career so far after a moment of utter stupidity today stamping on Januzaj near the end of the game.
There was absolutely no reason to do it at all, I know he was probably frustrated at losing the game, but it was almost like a testimonial game the way it was played and he will will probably now miss the FA cup Final over it.
Biggest piece of stupidity I have seen on a football pitch for a while

I'm inclined to agree. The second replay above really makes it seem like he leaned into it unnecessarily. A momentary red flash that could cost him big time.

He might not have meant it initially, if could be possibly argued, but the opportunist in him certainly came to the fore once he found himself standing on the guy.

The look on his face as well as he launched himself from the poor mans pinned limb Fly, he looked sated, like a man after getting a right good run of little pops while working through some bubble wrap.

Looked deliberate to me. I hope his good record saves him from missing the cup final but I think he could be in trouble.
I don't think his good record should save him to be honest. Pep Giggs comments won't help him that's for sure.

disappointing from meyler particularly given his own nasty injury record. will get a 3 game ban for it

Well, I'd go with what Giggs thinks, super player, super pro, super injunction.
Could Hull appeal it and delay the ban to next season? Even if it meant Meyler got an extra game for a frivolous appeal?

Looks very deliberate to me - from the reverse angle , it looks as if he stamps his right foot down ,and from the frontal view , as per said above - he leaves his foot there way to long for it to be an accident
Disgusting thing to do - very dissappointed in Meyler for that
A ban is forthcoming - say goodbye to the Cup Final David .....shame!

It looks bad, but the way Janusaj flicked the ball away, Meyler started his step without knowing Janusaj's leg would end up where it did.
He did take his time moving his foot though. That bit did look a bit 'stampy' alright.

Watching that vid embedded in the mirror article makes me rethink the stamp. He put his foot exactly where the ball had just been and wasn't expecting Janujaz to flick it away. The way he stepped in all his weight was forward so once his foot landed it was planted.
That's how I'd defend him in court anyway!

BREAKING: Hull's David Meyler escapes FA action for stamp on Adnan Januzaj – meaning he is free to play in the FA Cup final.

So the rule is that if the ref says he saw it but took no action, then there can be no retrospective action?
Of course the ref could cop out and claim he didn't see it, or didn't see it in its entirety, considering the frenzied tabloid reaction leading public opinion to be frothing at mouth on the matter. Fair fcks to the ref who kept his bottle and went with his reaction to it, made in real time.
Charlie Darwin
07/05/2014, 6:39 PM
Well the ref gave it as a foul against Januzaj, as far as I know, so he has to say he saw the incident regardless of whether he missed the stamp or not.

They say in the Guardian.
'Pawson, in his report submitted to the ruling body on Wednesday, said he was looking directly at Meyler as the player made the challenge. As he had a clear, unobstructed, view – albeit without the benefit of television replays from assorted angles – no sanctions can be imposed.'
It's close to what you say, if the ref had a clear view of the incident and decided there and then it was nothing, then he can't change his mind with the benefit of replays and extra slow motion giffs. And if as you say, he had already blown up for a foul by Januzaj, why were all you guys so sure that Meyler would get busted?
