have to agree with this
Wow!! There is a surprise. :-)
are there rules to say numerous yellow cards lead to
some sanctions. Maybe with english prem or the like?
Any comment on the goal difference rule boys?

Easy to see why you are bringing this up, with Avenue about 20 goals ahead of everyone else...Ye would also be lg champions if the goal difference applied.
I dont think goal difference can apply when you have refs who protect teams from getting beaten by too much. One in particular once said to me "ye wont be scoring any more goals I can tell you" before blowing for about 4 imaginary offsides and disallowing goals. I dont think this is a bad thing to be honest but a lg cannot be decided on goals while this goes on.

I think I know the ref in question :-)
ya goal difference couldn't work in amateur
leagues. Hasn't there been a few walk overs in last few seasons
so it would be a moot (?) point.
Are nwmrkt able to field a team tomorrow night
with a few being shift workers. I hope the club are going to discipline
crusher for not being available and having the temerity to go on hols
mid season :-)

Ya the Bridge caused a shock there alright, they were behind twice in the game as well I heard. Something that didn't help the Tage A in their quest for cup glory was Mike Lydon tipping them to win it out on the radio a while back, he jinxed them!:D

i think whacker has a valid point regarding the clare people lads... i mean its just stupid, basic mistakes that make some of their reports very shabby ie. the report on the Bridge Celtic v Avenue 4-4 game at the weekend...
here's some of it
"...they trailed a pumped up Bridge side 3-0 at half-time" - it was in fact 3-1 at half-time.
"...then by 4-1 with 20 minutes remaining, but from their the Ennis side conjured up a dramatic finale to earn a share of the spoils." - does anyone read over these reports before they go to print? these kind of mistakes are very amateur in all fairness.
"...but from somewhere they summoned up a great second half rally that was kick-started by David McCarthy's goal in the 65th minute." - was this reporter at the game at all?? This goal was scored a minute or two BEFORE half-time not 20 minutes into the 2nd half!

lads ye have little to be worrying about if a few mis-spelt words and non accurate times are the latest whinge here

30/03/2010, 9:01 PM
you can understand a few mistakes by a reporter..but when the editor misses it week in week out thats just wrong....
why do they even report on soccer when its crap coverage..
they are rarely at the game and ring the managers for reports. I know I struggle to give them accurate times of incidents and goals. A lot of those flakey match reports b*astar*ised from phonecalls with team officials.

Ya but come on this is happening on a regular basis in their soccer coverage, as whacker said you wouldn't mind but this is goin on all the time. it's not like the reports on the soccer are so long that they don't have the time to read over them and get things right first... well actually they mightn't have the time since they have so much GAA pages to check first (e.g. 24 last week and 14 this week compared to the whopping 2 pages of soccer this week and last week)
papa-j
30/03/2010, 10:15 PM
fair point but i'm sure you give the same report to clare champion..and i've yet to see them wit any spelling mistakes...in fairness to put a guys name in last week as goat sexton..come on..i suppose it just shows the gulf in class with these reporters..
but his parents Billy and Nanny must be so proud that young goat got a mention in the paper! Its pretty poor form alright, not hard to take the time and get the names right but in their defence the Champion have 2 extra days to gather their info.

In fairness The Champion aren't a whole lot better at all, they don't have more than 2 line match reports, the only times they're longer than that is if a GAA player gets on the scoresheet for one of the soccer teams, it's guaranteed they'll write a paragraph about his gaa career alone in the middle of the soccer report....

what - gaa players playing soccer ??- what next ?- they should stick to their own code and not be using soccer just to keep them pepped up over the winter - i suppose they are all gone from their respective "training teams " now with the hurling season back on track - -

the big difference is week in week out the champion cover most games in clare through all divisions...the people cover the premier and maybe 1st but only if ennis team involved....
Looks like "From the Ditch" fair touched a nerve a few weeks back with all this CP slating!!!!

you must have a fog horn or evacuation alarm for a ring tone to be disturbing the whole household with a phone call ;-) ;-) ;-)
.. bad timing i agree and def no need to write in the paper about it
CousinSylDolan
31/03/2010, 5:16 PM
in fairness the reason he wrote that piece was simply because he rang me after 9pm on a Monday night looking for my team from previous day ... I simply told him 9pm was family time( for those with families ) and to ring at a respectable time... If u think that warrents a column like he wrote then maybe u should be working for him too.. Did you notice he didn't have any spelling mistakes in that either..Good to see him editing something right
I just find it funny that the CP has been slated on here ever since that piece...its funny that spelling mistakes ect ect were never mentioned before the piece in From the Ditch.

No fog horn.. That wasn't my point but with 4 kids I have more important things to be doing at 9pm
so you dont answer any of your players / club officals if they call after 9pm either :D

A bit like your digs at rineanna recently ... Would it have happened if we hadn't caught ye out.
You always take the bait so its hard to resist. Ha Ha....and someone has to entertain Planners.
Bridge and Bunratty drew 2-2 this evening. Poor result for both teams. Rats were 2-0 up with 15 left.
Rock beat Newmarket 3-1.

Was at the Bridge Bunratty game last night........Cold wet night and conditions were not great. Rats were goin ok at 2 nil up and bridge were trying to get back into it and missed a lot of chances. It looked as if they would never score until a long ball was hoofed into the area under the crossbar. keeper and player went up for it and it went straight in...I had a good look at this and it was very harsh on the keeper ...he was fouled in the air...the bridge player never touched the ball only the keeper so i cant see how the ref gave no free. I watched the ref closely ..it was as if he was happy that it was now game on ....
Rats never composed themselves after this and bridge pushed hard and got the equaliser ( shockin goal )
all in all a decent battle of a game but the ref here concerned me .......he could change a game on any team and I hope I never have to deal with him

wish a speedy recovery for d injured rock player..wit sum teams mid table nothing to play for near end of season (not referring to this year just in years gone by) would a champions league format Munster cup ever emerge? i know with so many games domestically, travelling distances and Junior cup games on too but it could make things interesting..32 teams (8 groups of 4)...top 2 into last 16, 3rd place teams into another competition..I know this will never happen but I feel it would be an interesting format. Between top 3-5 teams entering depending on which county league you are competing for

played a few games with him as ref and seen him ref a good few also ... think your wrong with view .. but then i suppose a ref can have bad games like players/ teams

this ref you speak about is the best ref in the clare league by a long distance and is on the cards to take charge of the fai final if it is an all limerick one and it is deserved imo.

Have to agree, this ref is certainly one of the top two referees in the county at the minute.

Lads, do ye reckon it'll be bright enough to get 90 minutes played in decent light tonight for the 6.45 kick-offs? Around 10 past 8 last night it was dusky enough. I think they should've stuck with 6.30 kick-offs for another week
