the ground would be frozen up to 6 or 8 inches under soil so the 2 days of thawing so far wont have much affect, the stormy conditions ahead wont help the pitches anyway so its prob better to give it another week,
teams must be champing at the bit to get games at this stage
Must be said they got it right after the cold and frost we got last night, roads were terrible, is it set to continue?

have a look at the 10 day forecast on this site - no real sign of improvement up to Saturday week - this could go on for a while
And a big shout out to Devilfish and Cousin syl both celebrating 10 years of blissful marriage today :D

1st round for rock is a tough one and if they get thru then the 2nd round is as tough for bridge or rock
bunratty wont have it easy against moher,
shannoon oly against tulla is also a sticky one
so thats a few premier teams handed tough assignements

Any word from Clare Youths lastnight lads?

Lost 6-1 . Doesn't fair well for oscars I heard they only drew wit youths last week in friendly.
Incorrect. Oscars won 5-3 with depleted squad. They gave the Youths 2 players for second half also.
Youths looked like a side who could play but were a little light. Is it fair to say there are a few underage next year?

It was 7-1 but that Galway side were last years beaten finalists and have 4 effectively full-time players on the FAS scheme, including one lad who got 4 of the goals for them, starts for Merview in the LoI and starts for the Oscar Traynor junior team too.

In fairness he has a point 7-1 is a bad beating. Even if they had 11 LOI players it's not good enough. It's a youths comp so all same age. If they have Amy ambition about winning things then 7-1 ain't acceptable . I heard youths only had 12 togged against oscars last week. Not great preperation for Galway game
So you think it'd be a fair match between 11 LoI and 11 youths? Really?!
And how does losing 7-1 show a lack of ambition? You're actually trying to say the the fact they lost against one of the exceptional teams in the country shows a lack of ambition?!! So nobody on or associated with the team had ambition to win this match? And this is proven because they lost the match by a big margin?!!!
Your logic is absolutely faultless...
We won't go into what you "heard"!...

maybe ambition was to high bit of a tough game playing against loi 11 players . and unfortunatly heavy defeat may have a negative effect on team .. could management not arranged game aginst a weaker opposition

My predictions lifford avenue nil all draw local derby always tight. Rineanna bridge cel 1-1 draw not many teams beat bridge twice in a season so bridge to take a point.rats will beat bridge by 2-0. Olympic to beat rock 2-1 oly will start picking up points. Fancy burren to beat newmarket 1-0.
olympic to beat rock !! have you taken the paddy dunne influence on game :D

Yeah it'd be great if teams could choose only to play "weaker opposition" unfortunately it doesn't work that way, this was a competitive fixture in the national competition...

Might not be a bad thing playing teams at top level - it will give the players an idea where they are at and what the have to improve by - so they could take alot from the game IMO

Stanley relax will you your getting worked up about a team that u have nothing to do wit. Just concentrate on getting Olympic to beat rock again.
I just don't see what's the point in entering these competitions if guys like u are going to defend them by saying " the other team had 4 LOI players" .
You know aswell as I do that they only had 12 togged against oscars last weekend. 3 days before a big game. That's not acceptable. Or is it ??
It's pointless even trying to explain simple concepts to most people here, I didn't "defend" a team. The question was asked how they got on, comments were made which were incorrect, I corrected the information and added more facts to the discussion. People either willfully ignored or can't understand the simple facts and made thoughtless statements based on nothing more than selective out-of-context parts of a post.
I have no idea how many players from either team did or did not turn up for the training session and I'll just ignore your Olympic and Rock off topic comment/fishing expedition
Stanley

You've lost it. We all gave our opinions which we are entitled to do. Yes ?? You came on disagreeing with everyone.
I take it u were at the match last nite.. If so how many did clare have togged
Look just read the posts again. Pay attention to who gave their opinions and what those opinions were based on?
Who did I disagree with? Old git queried whether the team you've chosen to play "weaker opposition"? He obviously didn't know it was a competitive game and yet chose to comment. Planners then made a comment based on my reply to old git's already incorrect comment
As for YNWA's comment? well I'd consider that was just trolling...
As for you? Why not deal with my posts directed at you individually? The genius analysis of ambiton post, for example?...
As it happens, I wasn't at the match but I spoke with someone connected to the team who was, and they told me that 16 togged.
Oh and I noticed your disagreement with old git's post about olympic, rock and paddy dunne. Are you the only one allowed to question other poster's opinions?

Because they are unbeaten in last 2 games and have already beat rock away in league. So why not??
why not indeed , olympic are more than capable of beating rock
but trying to make point that all game plan / tactics etc go out the window with referee involved that is doing match :D

Morning lads, just spotted this debate and wanted to ask Stanley for clarification on the "Dave" item above. Eoin, I presume this is another "Dave" that exists on this and not me, otherwise you have seriously mis-taken user names and those that hide behind them. Apologies in advance if it's not me that you were directing that rant towards. FYI, I do believe that the special 1 is actually a member of your club.

Because they are unbeaten in last 2 games and have already beat rock away in league. So why not??
wow! ''unbeaten in their last two games'' , thats some going its not often you see any team go two games without defeat. rock will be shakin in their boots with oly in that kind of scintillating form:o
of course it would take you to come out with a stat like that . lets look at the bigger picture here. olympic have the 2nd worst defence in the league (and their attack isn't exactly firing in all cylinders either), oly have played 9 lge games and have only won one of them . rock on the other hand are the form team, since they lost to ye in ennis(missing afew player and just had a bad day) they have won their last 5 games in all comps. so it should be a handy win by minimum two goals for rock. olympic for the drop

While it strikes me as rather cocky (or sensitive:confused:) to automatically assume that all uses of the name dave are in reference to you, I have been aware of your alter-ego, devilfish, for some time, so no, it's not a "rant" (if one sentence can be a rant?) directed at you. To be honest, it was a vague reference to "only fools and horses" where trigger always gets rodney's name wrong. A bit too subtle for here methinks...

should you not concentrate on your own game against Bridge Utd.That type of dismissive attitude is why the title holders are sitting mid table. Cost you 2 points against them a few weeks ago.Anything can happen on Sunday in any of the games, how can you talk about "the form" team, there hasn't been a game for weeks.
Some tasty ties and very hard to call results this week, especially with the break. Maybe Talisman can look into his crystal ball and give us some more results, mark his words lads - he can see the future:rolleyes:

So what, big deal if Galway had 4 lads playing LOI or Oscar Traynor, a lot of League Of Ireland clubs are just glorified junior teams anyway, Merview are no world beaters. The way you're talking you'd swear it was on a par with the FA Premier League or La Liga. As far as I'm aware I thought if you signed with(playing with) a LOI club that you were ineligible to play amateur soccer ie. with a junior/youths team??

So you think that playing fulltime or competing at a higher level does not give lads any advantage over players who are not? Good one studsup:rolleyes:
The only distinction between players is whether they are professional or amateur, these players would be classed as amateur.
Oh, the guy who scored the 4 goals for Galway is called Pat Hoban, he scored 3 goals from 4 appearances for Mervue in LoI Divison 1 last year. Just your average youth player then...
And how was anyone meant to understand that rubbish piece of humour? Good one Stanley:rolleyes:

Lads can ye leave out the rubbish debate since most of ye seem unable to follow a logical discussion or from what I have seen this morning , read someone's post and understand it before jumping on the "reply to quote " button. It doesn't make for enjoyable reading when every second post is a post explaining your previous post.

No I didn't get the reference but I did understand his post and his subsequent point of view and that others here were taking him out of context , because of their inablity to have a discussion to a conclusion.

The Q/F draw is on tonight for the Oscar Traynor cup. Plenty of good teams left. It will be interesting to see who Clare get.
