So you dont think that there is an understanding that when some of those players sign that both the manager, the player and the team know that this is a short-term commitment. It would be ideal for a manahger to have a squad full of just soccer players but in reality these type of players are needed. In Rineanna it is your most important players that will not be available when the hurling starts up whereas in other clubs this does not appear to be the case. Would you not agree?

And I am not trying to rise you, merely sparking a conversation about a topic...

LL - lets be realistic here , every club knows what they are getting when the GAA lads sign - and you have basically said the same in your post in that it would be ideal to have a full squad of soccer players , I disagree with your statement of them being the most important - we have a fairly large squad with only 5 GAA players - this leaves 17 + lads that are more than capable
Take a look at your own club - there are 4 GAA players , all quiet capable of making the starting 11 , when they FO will that be the down fall given the stregth of ye're current squad ? IMO i don;t think so by the way , allowances are made when you take on GAA players - is it wrong ?? - - in some ways but given the distance that the NOF hurlers got I don't think they'll be in a rush to get back training in Feb for a Chanpionship match in Aug :D

Shocking bad weather alright.... Who wants to open up another summer soccer debate? Forecast for the weekend not good...

This current cycle of wet weather will continue over the weekend and into the first half of next week as well. Saturday will be another wet and windy day; heavy rain is likely in all parts of the country and the southerly winds will be very blustery at times. The weather will change for Sunday; it will be a brighter day but also showery, with most of the showers over the western half of the country. Sunday will still be windy, although not as windy as Saturday. And the weather will continue to stay much the same on Monday; showery in the west but drier in the east. At this stage Tuesday looks to be a reasonably good day; fairly dry and bright with light winds. But then more rain will spread from the south on Tuesday night, and mid-week next week looks every bit as unsettled as this week.

Not looking good. The two pitches are usually in excellent condition but with the amount of rain we've had over the last week or so both pitches are holding surface water at the moment and we had to cancel training tonight because of it. Weather promised bad for Saturday as well so that won't help. Will we lose home advantage if it doesn't go ahead?

Yeah, all League games off and Bunratty A V Avenue A in the MJC 3rd Round is off as well. All the FAI games should be called off too, it's not like Clare is the only county in Ireland with bad weather and flooding at the moment, it's like that nationwide. Newmarket have an FAI youths game Saturday and FAI Junior game Sunday and Im not sure even their facilities will be playable this weekend

Went in to watch the Newmarket V Rathkeale game today and couldn't believe it was called off by the ref, rain was there but it wasn't torrential by any stretch of the imagination, both sides would definately have played in way worse conditions in the past Im sure. The pitch was perfect as well. We all know that anyone else would have played that match without any thought about it. Very annoying for Rathkeale after travelling all the way and also for the home side. Was there an underage game in Newmarket before the Junior game?

I presume Newmarket will lose home advantage now?

yet again the good ould clare league with another public realitions diaster surely their must have been a local referee available to check pitch this morning or even 11am -12 noon to see if playable and save rathkeale travelling .
even both teams agree match should have been played pitch was so good .. what reason did ref give for calling off match

I don't think you can blame the Clare League here, what could they have done really? They had nothing to do with calling off the game - it was 100% the referee's decision. The reason he gave was the weather, he said the pitch was fine.

There was an U-16 S.F.A.I. game on in the back pitch at 11am and the pitch was fine after it plus it was raining for that too

M O'Brien inspected the pitch @ 1pm and advised it was perfect. He just felt that the safety of players was at risk due to the strong winds and rain and then decided to call it off.
To answer your question there was a local referee at the pitch @ 11am but he was getting ready to referee the under 16s match that was on before it and he obviously didnt consider the safety of those players was at risk. (1 of these 2 referees was correct in their judgement just not sure which one though)
I presume Newmarket lose home advantage now. You always expect to get tough decisions against you when your playing away (other leagues) in the fai but surprised to be getting them at home now also!

they appoint ref for game ... having said that m o brien is a good ref .
just strange referee's judge player safety & weather to bad for adults game ,.. yet all ok for under 16 game

Lads the calling off of this game yesterday IMO was justified. It was not a day for football and it definately wasn't a day to look back at in regret if you had been knocked out of the FAI.

O'Brien was right in my opinion.

There could be 40 days of solid rain and a hurricane and Newmarket would be perfect as far as the pitch is concerned. It is a superb surface.

That said there was savage wind yesterday and i heard the younglads game that went ahead shoudn't have. half of them nearly froze.

Ref was right and from what i heard there were not too many complaints.

I can't see Rathkeale being playable this weekend, even if there's no rain between now and Sunday I doubt it'd be able to recover on time. Newmarket will be playable anyway so it should go ahead this Sunday.

The CDSL should just postpone the season now until after Christmas. Pitches are goin to be very soft for a while now and playing on them would just destroy them.

Like 3 years ago when there was barely a ball kicked for a couple of months before Christmas they ended up having to just play more midweek games and play into the month of June.

Anyway , CDSL should make the switch to Summer Soccer altogether, it's the best option and a lot less games would be getting called off, pitches would be better too

Totally agree it’s a sin to pass out football pitches during the summer months and no one on them.
Surly now is the time to make the changes and stop living in the past. I know vacation is always an issue in the summer but it not always an issue???
What does the rest of the CL think?

Fair point but the dual players would not be available and I know your going to harp on about them making a choice etc etc but at the end of the day there are that many dual players in the CDSl that the standard of the league will collapse - also how will the MJ and FAI be affected ?

Why don't you Start your league in July having midweek games then take a break at December starting back Late January season should finish early May. Best of both worlds dont ya think

- there are 18 games in the league per season - run in the FAI and MJ average 8 / 9 games , then you have the cup with another good run = 5 / 6 games - so overall you'll have 32+ games approx over a season -
Dual players are missing from May to Sept -
Won;t work
