Straide & Foxford still on course to get 10points from the last four games as i predicted! 1 game left Vs Kilmore, easy 3 points. Beat Celtic 2 nil and should have been alot more. Well Done lads!

Celtic seem to be going ok recently and I wouldn't be surprised to see them beat S & F, although S & F are going good too. Kilmore will be hoping S & F win but cant see them beating Ballyheane.

No Faith in SnF...? we won 2 0 and should a been alot more. Think we go above Fahy now too if they lost today, lost 3 1 was it?

I am aware of who it is. However as a Qualified Coach he is only taking some sessions and will not be the new westport Manager. Thats the situation!

Good predictions there! Fair play to S & F they done well in last few games, think we got to the safety point after about 11 games and dropped off results wise then.

Will Ballina Town be allowed to play their final game in 2 weeks as Westport have still
2 games in hand?
Will the ML let them finish the SL ahead off all outstanding fixtures?

It does seem a crazy situation

Westport United v Snugboro United TBC 14:30 Not Played

Ballina Town v Fahy Rovers 15/11/2009 14:30 Round 18
Westport United v Iorras Aontaithe 15/11/2009 14:30 Round 18
Left with a situation, where if Ballina drop points, Westport will have a dead rubber game against Snugboro for the title(oxymoron). The Mayo League should of switched the Fahy-Snugboro game this weekend for the Westport-Snugboro game. Hopefully Ballina will beat Fahy and make it a non issue, nothing against Westport, would just like to see a new name on the trophy.

Ya, thats true, ye had nothin to play for so interest went. we never had interest in the 1st place until the last few games! then we started t ensure results. good luck against Fahy, Will be annoyin t see them take the cup at that game, but ye mite be lucky n get a few drinks out a it. ha

Think it a bit unfair on Ballina the way the season is dragging on.
I mean most Super Champions were well decided by now in previous years.
A bit of a reflection on the whole super league this year actually, as a lot of rubbish played and 'safe' teams putting out crap teams ie dead rubber games.
On a whole though the best team probably won and the worst team relegated although Kilmore might be happy as they will be in pole position to come up next year and not in the dog fight which will be the Super league.
Safe for 2010:p
Ballina
Westport
Should be safe
Erris
Dog Fight:eek:
Manulla
Heane
Boro
Fahy
Swinford

Way I see it (4 tier):
"take your pick"
Ballina
Westport

"Too inconsistent to challenge"
Erris
Manulla

"Dog fight"
Snugboro
Ballyheane
Fahy
S & F

"As good as gone"

Fahy 3 - 1 Snugboro, Snuggies getting one with 3 mins to go.

No reason to even doubt Swinford will finish in the bottom 2 (based on 3 games playing against ye last year). We've proved in our first year that even a small club with a small community can cut it in the super league. We will be even stronger next year and hopefully not dropping the points so easily as we did against Westport twice and Celtic. Any game we won we deserved it I think to be fair.

Swinford are a decent football outfit who go well in premier division. Dont think ye have the physical attributes at the moment in your squad and one man in particular who plays off the strikers seems to be the main man. Not saying ye wont do any good and nice to see another good side coming in. All the best...

As for us we'll probably finish on a high and bring back the cup to Westport from Ballina ;)

Please explain

He's referring to the proposed eight-team Super League for the year after next. (Can anyone tell me if that has been given the go-ahead or do the clubs have to vote on it?) Although strictly speaking, even if it does happen, there is no guarantee that four teams will go down, it all depends on whether a b team finishes in the top two. And that's happened a lot recently.

Its a definite structure in place for 2011 season, posted in the papers a few weeks ago as decided by the ML.

Top six or bust next season...well top 8 or bust because they still haven't went with the simple reserve league solution to the B team problem ;)

In fairness I see mossy's point, he never mentioned anything about two teams going down, he just predicted who he thought would be in a 'dog fight' and who would be 'scrapping' and he had more than four teams in those categories. Swinford seemed to take it that he was under the illusion that only two were going down but thats not actually in his post if you read it.....

Yeah, no one seems interested. I tried to get some reaction to the squad and some idea of how people thought they would do but got no response. Decent win against an apparently decent side but wasn't there myself. Big contingent of Westport players and quite a few players on the bench I hadn't heard of (!). There's a match report on the mayo league site:

http://inform.fai.ie/League/Clubs/portals/MAFL/latestnews.aspx

which really could do with having a less stupid address.

From the report mayo seemed well on top but need to do a bit better when they come to play galway. Agreed on both accounts with a high contingent from westport and unkown players on the bench, but westport have a high number of quality players. the starting 11 is prob the strongest in the mayo league right now.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who didn't recognise all the squad members, and wondered if someone could help put a club to the names for me?

Mayo

E Peyton,
T O’Connor, M Duffy (All Ballina)
S Kelly (?)
B Nallen (Erris)
M Geraghty, J Lawless, D Scahill, , D Horkan, D O’Malley (All Westport)
Gerry Burke (Ballyheane)

Subs:
D Burke (Snugboro?)
D Campbell (Manulla)
R Clarke (Manulla)
A McHugh (Ballyheane)
A Mills (Erris)
B Lavelle (Ballina)
N Gallagher (Achill)
D Coleman.

Actually i ended up getting most of them eventually. I should know kelly, but who is Coleman??

Quick edit, Damian Coleman may be at Manulla now.

Any predictions for the weekend?

Cant see Ballina slipping up at this stage but Fahy wont be giving them anything softly, Westport should put one over on Iorras but it might be to little to late. Will be at Ballina game so hope the weather holds up... any chance it might be called off?

Well done to Ballina on winning the Super league today in Beleek. They thrashed Fahy Rovers and were really up for it. Westport lost to Erris anyway (or were losing three nil) so it wouldn't have affected the end result. Both teams will be looking forward to next season, the last ten team super league for the time being.

Swinford are going up to The Super League and Kilmore are going down to the Premier Division. Just one up and one down as Wesport B can't be promoted

Well done to Ballina on winning the Superleague title they deserved it, they were by far the most consistent team. Well done to Westport United B on winning the premier, and finally well done to our neighbours Clew Bay United for winning promotion to the premier division, two consecutive promotions!

What does it say about Fahy, gettin beat 8 - 1 by the worst team to win the league in some time. Not lookin good for ye next year.

Fahy were missing a few players yesterday, Fahy can put it up to any team in the Superleague. I would not read too much into the result.

It says that you are more concerned than we are. Just to prove to myself it wasn't paranoia, I took a look through your posts; more than half of them refer to Fahy Rovers. Last year you claimed we would not even come close to survival
