Better side lost like 2 weeks ago in Moneen! Thats the way it goes in the super league, if you dont take ur chances you can be beaten or even hammered undeservably :ball:

maybe, cant comment as i wasn't there.

not a bad three points for ye today. good to get off the mark early. what are kilmore like?? physical and tough to beat id imagine

Cant comment on Kilmore this season as I wasn't there. Not eliagible to play yet! From playing against Kilmore before they are an honest team, not particularly physical but fit and committed bunch, they have no real star match winners though which will go against them in the SL I think. Hard to beat down there though...

I could count at least 3 one on ones that were missed by iorras when score was 2.0 as i said celtic lots of ball but iorras lifted game when they had too.iorras lost lots of games last year when they were missing 1st team players so considering who was missing today excellent result.

No way did the better side loose that day. Yes you deserved a draw but that was it. Yes I only saw the first half and Celtic deserved to be one up. Second half you were the better team from what I hear and should have got something from the game but not all three points. Yesterday IMO Erris deserved the 3 points because they defender better than we did and always looked dangerous on the break. Celtic played all the football without creating enough chances or getting the breaks Erris got (their first and second goals were pure luck). Both teams had great chances to score in the second half but it was Erris who played the quick ball up to their front two and tried to pick up the breaks but never troubled the Celtic keeper bar the one chance in the second half when their left winger blasted wide from a good position. It was a good lesson for this team and shows you have to take you half chances at all times your you get nothing from the game. cant see Erris troubling Westport on yesterdays performance. Yes I know they were missing a number of players but so was every team yesterday.

Every team will be missing players as this was the case for celtic yesterday and probably every team in the league was in the same boat. Look the first two goals scored by erris were pure flukes and they got the bounce of the ball yesterday. I only remember 1 one on ones but that said IMO Erris were deserving winners but not because of their directness but for their defending, physical strength and strong goalkeeping. I delighted the way Celtic played yesterday and if they keep playing football the breaks and results will come.

As the saying goes "goals win games" and they got 4 Celtic got 1. I'm sure if you play as well as you said you did ye'll win games to come...

Are ye going to go thru every goal each week with a tale of woe behind its meanderings on its way to goal.

sour grapes i think, i was at game yesterday iorras no 11 should have had 3 goals in the first half cut in from right wing poor finishing ,keeper made excellent save from iorras no 9 and first goal was a good finish after the young lad followed up shot that was blocked firstly and then parried by keeper, second half celtic had 60 per cent of ball but really only created two good chances before they scored. gibbons header(he should really have hit target) and one great save by iorras keeper, iorras no 10 had two one on ones put both wide, third great strike and fourth easy tap in for no 9 after poor clearence by keeper, but it came from the young winger who got first goal, chasing a nothing ball.possesion means nothing in soccer ya have to put ball in net.

truthfully, celtic had enough possession to draw but did not take their chances, erris did, won the game, end of.
everyone at celtic knows it will be a long, tough season. at the end of the day, it is effectively our b team playing in the super league but in imo they have enough to stay up. two decent performances in two games missing a lot of players who will be back in the next 2-3 weeks.
lads, dont start this s**t argueing between celtic and all the other clubs because thats all it is, a load of s**t.

A: How am I "Westport"? I play for Fahy and i'm from Louisburgh
B: Your a typical Celtic fan who cant accept that ye're not the best team in the county, ye're just about the best in Castlebar area. Why would I care what you say little man, couldn't give a fcuk about the westport complex you seem to have...

we all know that celtic are not the best team in the sl. remember its our second team against all of yer first teams. our first team are second in the a championship with a decent shout at promotion to the first division!!:);)

in response to your question about westport, no i don't think anyone will touch them. ballina will be the same as always and wont last pace and judging on last weeks performance erris have no chance.

Fahy is 5 miles from Westport and 10 from Castlebar, 10 from Newport, 20 from Louisburgh...I would say Westport ;)

I think what you are suggesting here is that Westport are the best team in the County. Better than the current Celtic S/L team and the A team.....
Is this correct ?

+1

And credit is due to Celtic for making the step up to the L.O.I.

Hard to see anyone getting within an asses roar of Westport alright, but Erris, Snugboro & Ballina will hopefully have enough to sustain some sort of challenge for the season.

we will never know the answer to this question.
westport were better than celtics sl team last year but this years a league team is completely different to that team.
celtic are in excellent form at the moment and playing very well, it would be a very good game between the two of them but they're is no oppurtunity for them to play each other so we will never know.

Compare like for like:

J. Jennings, M. Hamilton, A. Neary, A. Stephenson, D. Flynn, C. Rowland, A. McDonnell, S. McHale, G. O’Boyle, P. Dravins, E. McGahon

McGreal, Navin, Lawless, Geraty, Keane, Cameron, Scahill, Horkan, McLoughlin, Hoban, O'Malley

In my opinion there's not much in it but Westport look a better side on paper. Who knows if they played now?

add robert hennelly, james minogue, stevie ryan, ronan o' boyle, shane hynes, pat fitzgerald, gary price, ioseph o' reilly and danny broderick to that aswell. 6 of them have played loi football before we entered it.
i still think it would be a tight game but strongest 11 v 11 i think we would just shade it.
everyone entitled to their own opinion though and i wont question anyone elses opinion

Hopefully we will have a good squad anyway, four players back and available from last week by my count and three or four new lads coming in. Would be nice to see a little bit more competition for places...

Watched the end of the Ballina town Snugboro game last Sunday. Great pitch, good football at a great pace. Good ref (J. Blake). I had never seen a super league game before and I was really impressed. Credit to all clubs and to the Mayo League for their high standards.
As an aside stop the bickering lads it is making you look fierce immature.

I agree SL is a good standard of football. Mayo has good pitches to offer and decent refs.

Rivalry is a healthy thing in football but I agree with the point of stopping bickering, but its a bit of craic most of the time ;)

Fair assessment. We were fairly up for it. Absolutely unreal performance from Joe Keane in centre half again, man of the match for all three games we have played. He really should be a walk-in for the Oscar Traynor squad. Snugboro seemed a little lacking in bite up front and resorted to putting Yohan on as a striker to rough up our defenders. That didn't work. Fahy tried to play the ball on the ground as usual, contrary to popular opinion, and hit the bar three times. The Snugboro centre half, Mark something, is a class act. Gary Goggins worked really hard, Pat Mc Nally did exceptionally well for a man playing out of position, Tomas Keane took care of Stevie G when he came on, Fran Sheridan held up ball and won every header. In fairness, Snugboro went down to nine men by the end due to Stevie Gavin having to go off injured after the three subs had come on, and a really unnecessary sending off. Fahy deserved the three points in the end though, and set a marker for the rest of the season. Long may it last. With Westport coming next week we need all the confidence we can get.

On a different note, our full back Peter Heraty broke his collar bone in an act of selfless defending which typified our whole performance. Best of luck recovering to him. Also, Snugboro were very gracious in defeat, and are a sound bunch of lads who will come back stronger.
